Default Calorie Counters..

Have you all noticed how much sodium you are eating on average? I have noticed mine is hovering around 3,000mg. I know that is almost twice the amount recommended. What is your average intake?

I keep mine under 1,500 mg every day. I try to keep it as low as I can. I love when restaurants include sodium with their nutritional information. It really is as important to me as everything else.

It is SO hard to keep sodium down. Check out my fitday. In my opinion, I am eating relatively healthy. But my sodium is high! And I can feel the bloating and see the bloating in my face! EEEKK!

It looks like I'm usually 2100-2300 mg. I fifgure that eating anything that comes in a package (unless it's specifically low sodium) will really send that number soaring.

Interesting, I just checked mine and I am at 2100 today. 2450 yesterday. Yikes!

I supposedly am aiming for 1500. I don't add salt to anything, it's just in the cheese, nuts, prepared pasta sauce, veggie burgers, etc.

I was thinking about this recently. I decided I need to prioritize and that's lower down on my list after I get the rest of my dietary habits sorted out. But I do think I need to deal with it.

Just yesterday I was buying black beans in a can and I found that the organic, low-sodium black beans had 30mg of sodium per half cup, where the non-organic, low-sodium black beans had 220mg per half cup, and the non-organic, regular-sodium black beans had 450mg per half cup. 450mg... not in the whole can, but in just half a cup. Half a cup of canned black beans could cost someone nearly 1/3rd of a day's sodium....

I bought the ones with 30mg although they cost twice as much. I try to limit processed foods, but if I buy them I look for those that are healthiest, and that includes sodium content.

I probably eat between 3,000 - 4,000mg a day. I don't usually keep track though.

Oy, I had a noodle bowl for lunch. Very unusual choice for me, but I had stashed it in the pantry for a day when I couldn't handle thinking about/preparing anything. Would you believe, more than 1,400 mg! In one serving!

Note to self: no more Thai Noodle Soup bowls. More whole foods. And go drink some water.

Edited to add: up .8 pounds on 7/22. Yep, could be anything. But my money's on that soup bowl!

Same7 Sorry to hear the scale when up but that actually makes me feel better. Now I am convinced the scale isnt moving too much becuase of how much sodium intake I have a day. I dont mind not seeing the scale move becuase of that, as long as the sodium doesnt prevent FAT loss.

How was your Husband's birthday? Did you make it out alive without consuming too many bad calories?

Emma I have the same outlook as you. I am trying to prioritize the changes I am making to have a healthier lifestyle. While I am conscious of the sodium, if its that over the fat or carbs, I will focus more on the other two

Petite Beans have a lot of sodium! And baked beans has a lot of sugar believe it or not. But beans are so good for you. Black beans; Yum!
