Going running in just a sports bra? Eek!

So, here's the deal. It's really, really hot in Alabama. Even when I get home after dark, it's still in the high 80's. But I am so freaking tired of running on a treadmill... It's boring. I have some good sports bras, but I have never gone out running without a shirt on over the top of it. I wear running shorts on the bottom.

I've lost 20 pounds, and I'm looking pretty decent these days, but I still don't have a really flat tummy like I'm aiming for. Would it be gross of me to just throw on a sports bra and shorts and go running outside? I really, really want to, but I'd be miserable in a t-shirt.

Do you ladies think that one has to be at their absolute goal to wear fewer clothes when exercising?

guamvixen 06-01-2010 12:19 PM

heck no! go for it!

nationalparker 06-01-2010 01:30 PM

Shed the shirt and GO! You're living one of my goals! :)

3fcuser1058250 06-01-2010 05:31 PM

 go for it girl!

caribbeangirl02 06-01-2010 05:52 PM

Bama Girl, if you won't get in trouble with the authorities, by all means go for it!!! (Just kidding!!!) :D

Give it a go and see if you feel self conscious or not.

Otherwise just get some loose tech vest tops which you won't notice (definitely nothing with cotton in it)

thesame7lbs 06-03-2010 09:01 AM

It's getting hot here, too, and I've been contemplating the jog bra thing. However, I'm not entirely sure which of my tops are "just bras" and which ones are OK to wear alone.

I've been running in knee pants and it's too hot for those, now, too. Time to get some more shorts & skirts.

Let us know if you do it and how it goes!

Califiona 06-14-2010 06:23 PM

I wear a tight work out shirt. If I feel like it is too hot, I'll lift it off of my tummy (the bra part of the workout shirt is still supporting you). If I am running past someone, I quickly put it down. But I recognize that it is my own insecurity and not because my body is so jiggly or bad. I believe that if you have the confidence to go out with a sport's bra and no shirt, do it!!!

vesperpt 06-14-2010 10:20 PM

Sometimes I tuck my shirt up into my bra when I get really warm. then if you start to feel iffy about baring some more skin, just pop it back down. :)

StephanieM 06-15-2010 08:09 PM

Hey, you said you got home after dark and that's when you'd like to run, why not? No one will probably see you.

I say go for it!

fashinjunkie09 06-18-2010 11:26 AM

That's one of my goals too, I say go for it girl!

bama girl 06-18-2010 01:35 PM

I did it last night! Well, kind of. I wore a tight tank over it and folded it up, just in case I changed my mind. It's so weird showing skin in public, but it felt SOOOO much better than running in a nasty heavy cotton t-shirt!

I decided that if I can wear a bikini on the beach, I can go running in a sports bra. If people are looking closely enough to be offended, well, in the words of my sweet grandma, they deserve what they see. :)

It was a pretty big step, but I can't wait until my body is where I want it to be, so I can feel even more confident. Thanks for all the support, ladies!

blindcantaloup 06-19-2010 07:28 AM

Grats good for you :). I'm way too self conscious to do it myself. I've gotten adjusted to wearing t shirts and sweating my butt off.

thesame7lbs 06-22-2010 07:55 AM

Did it yesterday ladies! Ocean City boardwalk. 1:00 pm. Hundreds and hundreds of people milling about. It was empowering! It also pushed me to run waaay faster than usual; I figured if I was going to run in just a bra top (and short running shorts too) I better own it. I ran 4 miles, and timed 3 of them -- 8:37, 9:00, 8:42. Normally I am super-pleased with 10 minute miles. It helped that it was totally flat and I wasn't pushing a jog stroller!

bama girl 06-22-2010 09:55 AM

Same 7, that's AWESOME! Good for you! :)

:woohoo: same7 :cheer:

I was just thinking about this thread this morning on the way in... I'm going to use you guys as inspiration. :)

I am totally not feeling beach ready the last several weeks and it has been 80 degrees at 8am... 95-99 when I'm running after work. I would love to be able to just get out there in my sports bra and run. I wonder if it would make me run faster, too... Hehe.

My main running bra is a light pink Fiona from Moving Comfort... I wonder if it is a wear alone bra... I might just have to find out..

Heyitssophie 01-27-2013 10:04 PM

Doooo ittt!!!

Go for it! You should be proud to even have that thought cross your mind!

Fortunate 03-18-2013 09:24 AM

Oh my word! I have never had the confidence to do such a thing - show skin in public?!? no way never!!
But after reading those posts its got me thinking, maybe its not so bad.......
Haha i think i will shed a few more kilos 1st.

CohesiveGen 03-18-2013 10:55 AM

yay that's awesome ladies! I say if it's super hot go for it! It gets reaaaally hot and humid in July and August where I'm from and I'd totally do it if I lost that last 10 pounds! Perhaps that could be part of the goals for me :) thanks for the inspiration!

JossFit 03-18-2013 01:46 PM

Holy skeleton thread... this thing was nearly 3 years old before it got bumped today!

I don't think I could ever do it. My avatar is me in my sports bra during a photo shoot, and for some reason doing that is OK, but actually runnin' and bouncin'... I would feel too exposed!

krampus 03-18-2013 04:07 PM

I would run in just a sports bra if I could pull my pants up to my armpits!

TurboMammoth 03-18-2013 04:53 PM

That is kinda funny this thread showed up today because I ended up FORGETTING my sport bra when I packed my running gear bag.

I felt the girls were bouncing like 10 kids on ecstasy playing on a trampoline for the first time.

My goal for now will be not to forget the sport bra instead only running with this on ;)

Andrea85 03-24-2013 12:33 PM

I say go for it!! I just did this recently with running shorts. My thighs are NOT where I want them to be, but putting these teeny tiny spandex shorts on makes me WANT to run, so I go for it! I just add some high socks so I'm not showing more skin than I personally am comfortable with ;)

As an alternative, maybe a short tank top thrown over? But only if that's what makes you comfortable :)

bargoo 03-24-2013 01:33 PM

I wouldn't mind the skin showing but I wouldn't be able to get away from the fact that I am wearing underwear as an outer garment.

devadiva 04-01-2013 09:36 AM

Funny this would pop up too yesterday I was thinking this maybe the year I do it,I run dirt roads and trails mostly just see cows and wild animals anyways and it's going to be hot soon and I have kicked up my miles from last years= time out there! Plus if they don 't like what they see avert there eyes
Turbo: I am a36dd and CANNOT run if the girls are not strapped down!
