  • G'mornin' Susan and everyone else ....
  • Good Morning! So true Susan, we do know what is right. I am going to go exercise, housework can wait. Once the exercise is done, I will keep food in check. I am going to try and track my calories over the next couple of days, should be very eye opening. Hope everyone has a great day.

  • Good morning, feathers!

Another thing that has occurred to me about approaching "thin" that maybe won't get much play anywhere else ... every pound at this level REALLY makes a difference! I honestly think my cellulite goes away at 151.0. It was absolutely there at 152.0, and at 150.5 this morning - vanished. Did anybody else read the analogy of the roll of paper towels on the support thread? That just makes so much sense. Maybe ... even though each # is exponentially higher to fight off, the benefit is also greater?? I'd be crucified for tossing that out anywhere else, but I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences. Does one little pound make that big of a change for you?
  • I was kind of off plan yesterday. The boyfriend and I ordered in pizza after dinner. The good news is that I ordered a small. The better news is I only ate half! I consumed 1625 calories, which is okay because I calorie cycle. It just means I'll have to be extra careful this weekend with my calorie inake.

Julie - I agree with everyone else - get yourself to the doctor, girl!
  • ICU, I totally agree!

I used to think it was all about percentage of total weight... so if someone weighed 300 lb, and lost 1% of their weight (3 lb) it would make just as big of a difference as if I lost 1% of mine (1.3 lb). But now I think it's even more skewed than that.

Maybe it's more about the percentage of weight you need to lose to get to your ideal weight? So, if someone had 100 lb left to lose and lost 10 lb of it (10%) it would make as big a difference as me losing 1.5 lb (10% of what I have left to lose). That seems a bit closer... but falls apart when you get REALLY close to your goal (if you've got 2lbs left to lose, and lose 0.2, would you even notice it??).

Obviously, this type of stuff would vary a lot from person to person... depending on their genetics, body shape, type of exercise they do. So maybe it's not even worth my sitting here trying to come up with a general hypothesis. But what else is a bored scientist to do??
  • One pound totally makes a difference at this weight! Five pounds is a new size. But each pounds takes longer
  • mayness - This engineer/statistician appreciates your take on that. I too went down that path of porportions! And I noticed it gets thorny at the end of the weight loss, but it's been so dang long since I was in this range (not to mention I was more of a young adult) that I would have thought I'd remember passing some point on the way up the weight scale where I noticed this change. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to celebrate it for what it is and call it a "red line" in preparation for maintenance (may it still be several pounds off in the future!).
  • Quote: I would have thought I'd remember passing some point on the way up the weight scale where I noticed this change.
I think maybe it's because on the way up we're in denial and on the way down we're paying close attention.
  • Good Morning Everyone!

Another great day without looking at the scale for me! I'm trying to ignore it & assume that with the right plan, only good things can be happening???

Good luck everyone! I will do my best to do what I know is right - thanks for the encouragement & have a great healthy day!!!
  • Julie - most definitely a big unhealthy dose of denial! I just have to shake my head because this year of loss has been fantastic and not a story of deprivation or suffering ... not at all! What possessed me to think it was going to be so awful that I put it off for more than 10 years? Bizarre.
  • Hello ladies

I've been gone for quite awhile. It's good to see some familiar faces and also lots of new ones too.

I guess I've been kinda maintaining my weight (if you call yo yoing maintaining) but I want to get back to work and get the rest of this weight off for good.

I started logging my food in Fitday this morning and went for a walk. I'll also be hanging out here a lot more. Support is a good thing

Hope everyone is having a great day!
  • Hi Abbyin! It's good to see you!
  • Abbyin back
  • Ok, now I've got some time to sit and think and type.

Abbyin ... almost all the maintainers have yoyo'd and regained. It's part of the learning process. I don't like that I've done it ... but I have and ... talley-ho ... I'll try my best not to do it again. I guess I'll just keep trying until it sticks

I like the analogy of the paper towel. It's really accurate.

Another thing I've run into is the wearing in of clothing. Those jeans may have started out a stretch size 6 but I stretched them and wore them long past when I should have bought bigger. On the way down, we're anxious to get into a smaller size so we dump the baggy ones and get new and smaller. We probably are the size we actually were when we bought the pants, we just wore them too long as we grew. Did that make sense?

And we stand up straighter and hold ourselves more proudly ... My waist is 29.5 but I can make it 27
  • OK so I'm jumping back on the bandwagon. I calculated that with my new slightly modified goal I can reach it by the time I fly home from school for Christmas break!!! So I am trying to keep that in mind and I've promised myself a new wardrobe that I'm saving up for once I reach that weight.
