Smile a couch potato life (in the desert): how do you cope?

hey ladies,

Anyone here living in a super-hot/humid climate? I live in the desert, where it's over 115 degrees with 100 per cent humidity. As a result, everyone puts on weight in the summer here because you just can't go out! You also drive everywhere, so there's minimum physical outdoor activity.

Has anyone struggled with incorporating more physical activity into their lives? And if so, how have you done it?

I see that your location is in Boston. Where are you in the desert?

Some suggestions would be to go to a gym with AC if that's a possibility, you could workout or walk outside at night when it's cooler, you could do DVDs in your home... Just some ideas...

Sign up for an aerobics class (around here adult aerobics classes are offered at the high schools in the evening) Walk/run stairs inside, Walk laps around the mall (mall walking is free and climate controlled!), swim, if you have no money for DVDs or a gym, look up at-home exercises online, try youtube

Thanks ladies--I've been relocated to the Gulf for a while, and there is no going out when you can't breath the air because of all the sand and humidity!

Will try out your suggestions, thanks

Can you go out in the evenings? It's well over 100 here most days but everyone comes out after dark to walk their dogs and play outside . We usually go for a family walk around 9pm. That'll have to change when school starts lol but it works for now.

Work out at home! I do Jillian's workouts and they are intense.

It's not much better here in Boston! Humid and gross today. Rainy for the last 40 days with a few breaks.

I usually go out in the early AM for exercise.

Can you join a gym with some nice AC? Or if your home is AC'd can you do workouts inside?
