Sorry...it's another calorie question!

  • Hi lovely people!
I started losing weight about 6 weeks ago. I'm 5'1" and started at 140lbs. I think i've been averaging about 1500 a day and im now down to 129/130lbs
But things seem to have come to a standstill. I'm now down to 1000 - 1200 a day, sometimes a wee bit less. I figured since ive now lost 10lbs, i should be lowering my cals a bit too but this doesnt seem to be doing anything...
I walk about an hour a day, try to do my workout dvd 4 times a week, but im getting so frustrated. I only want to lose another 10lbs or so.
How many cals do you think i should be eating to keep losing weight? At what point would my body start saving fat rather than getting rid of it??
Im a bit clueless when it come to weight loss

  • Never go below 1200 calories, you will be seriously short of nutrients. I lost weight at 1200 calories and maintain at 1400.Another fact to consider.....the less we have to lose the harder it is,sad but true. Almost every dieter will tell you that the last ten pounds are the hardest. You can do it, but do not go down to 1000 calories, you will actually slow your loss and it is not healthy.
  • Don't drop below 1200. If you feel you need to burn more calories, step up the exercising. Also realize that your body might just need time to adjust to the loss. You can probably still lose at 1400, you just need to give your body time. You may stop losing for a week or two and then start up again.

  • Ah, the dreaded plateau... I'm with the other girls don't go below 1200 calories, make sure your calories are clean and nutrient dense, lots of veggies ... DO intensify your workouts though... If you walk at a moderate pace one hour/day, try 30 or 40 mins of HIIT (high intensity interval training) instead, brisk walk for a minute then light jog/run (depending on your level of fitness) for a minute or do incline or hills for a minute... Start weight training if you haven't already, muscles burn fat at rest. Change up your DVD workouts...
