Newbie here with a Q.

  • So I dont need to loose alot of weight but I am having the hardest time! I have my 10 year HS reunion coming up in 2 months. I need to loose some lbs. Probably 10 but I cant get them off. In the past I have done the South Beach/Low carb thing and lost a good bit of weight with that. I started doing weight watchers a couple of weeks ago with a friend but that doesnt seem to be working well especially to just loose 10 lbs. Any suggestions for me? I am drinking about 64 oz per day of water and going to the gym 2-3 times per week. I just dont seem to be loosing any and it is stressing me out!
    TIA! ~jenn
  • Hi jenn! Welcome to Featherweights...

Let's start with the basics, based on what I see from your post:

    1. A rate of healthy weight loss is an average of 1-2lbs per week. Keep in mind that since you have less to lose, the reality might be more like .5-1lb/week. 8 weeks x 1lb/week = ~8lbs in 2 months, so you should be able to reach your goal! BUT......

    2. Exercising 2x/week is NOT enough. You need to start sweating for at least 45 min. 4x/week, at minimum (this is my personal suggestion).

    3. 80% of weight loss is attributed to what goes into your mouth! What are you eating lately? I would recommend lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, 2-3 servings of lowfat dairy every day, lean protein, whole grains and a minimum of sugar and fat. You are off to a good start already by drinking lots of water; that will keep your system hydrated and stave off feelings of hunger, which can ultimately lead to overeating. Keep it up!

I'm not going to lie to you, 10lbs in 2 months is a tough goal to achieve - but it is not impossible by any means. To get there, however, you are going to have to work your butt off! We support each other here, though; feel free to drop into the weekly chat to keep us updated on what you're doing and see what everyone else is up to.

    Good luck!!
  • drink a ton of water! The quickest way to lose weight is to cut out all white flour, sugar and salt. Base your diet on whole foods like oatmeal, yogurt, fruits and veggies. Look into Fat Smash or Extreme Fat Smash, those diets usually work well for me and they're very healthy.
  • I'm in agreement with Kimberly exercise more, I would also add to intensify your workouts, do hills also add heavy weight training if you already don't have that in your program.

Also what you put in your mouth should be as unprocessed and as natural as possible.

Good luck keep us posted on your progress, oh and, to 3FC
  • Jenn- I lost about 12# my first month on South Beach, 8# in Phase I. While I assume it was a lot of water weight, my waist measurement went down 3" in a month so I definitely could see the results quickly. That coupled with exercise could work great for you. Since you did SBD in the past, why don't you try it again? I got to the point where I couldn't lose on WW flex anymore. WW core might work for you, similar to South Beach.
  • Hi Jen,
First and foremost.... YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
Keep going with the water, but add more if you can. I know it can be rough, but if you can add more, you will see the difference in everything from your skin health to your overall weight loss.
VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! WATCH YOUR SODIUM INTAKE. Even on meal plans, if it is prepackaged (even diet meals), it will normally have more sodium then if you made it fresh.
Think of it this way. The more salt/sodium you take in, the more water you hold. There are a ton more issues with sodium then just that simple salt & water fact.
I hope all of the ideas and support you get here will help you feel your best when you see your old classmates. From experience.... The reunion is not as judgmental as most of us fear.
Remember to smile everyday and don't stress. You can do this.
    Enjoy!
  • Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. So here's the plan- I have decided to work out much more and take a few intense classes at the gym as well to get more cardio cause that is the hardest thing for me. I am also going to go back to the south beach-low carb diet cause that did seem to work best for me in the past. Last night went to store and stocked up on fruits, veggies, and eggs (of course). so thats the plan, oh and lots of water. I will let you all know how it goes! Thanks again!
