Smile Im A Newbie, And Im Looking To Lose 15lb...

Hiya!

Basically, Im Tatinia, Im New, Im 18 and I work in an underwear shop to 'bank' up some money for my university studies ( Media photography and Health and social care)

So I want to lose 15lb, Im currently 121lb,which I know is an okay weight, but Ive seen my body fat, and Im obese in that catergory so its like.. Eek.

Im givng myself 9 weeks to do this, to get the results, then carry it on for the rest of my life. =]

I believe the regular weightloss is for 2lb a week?? So Typically I should be losing 18lb in 9 weeks, which will be other the amount I wanted, but its all good.

Im eating weetabix for breakfast, tuna tortalio for lunch, Fruit for snacks and soups for dinners.

Any advice anyone?
Looking foward to talking to you all ... =]]

How did you have your body fat calculated? To be obese at 121# you would have to have 32% body fat & at your weight that would be over 38# of fat and less than 82# of lean. I would have it retested by a more accurate method. Maybe you just need to do strength training to increase your lean mass. It doesn't look like you're eating enough calories. You could be losing lean mass if you're undereating, which won't help with the body fat issues.

Hi there, welcome to 3FC!

Feel free to join us in the weekly planning chat....it definitely helps to keep yourself accountable by talking about what's going on during the week.

We have pretty similar stats (same starting weight and goal weight pretty much) but it looks like I am just a tad shorter than you. 121lbs is considered "overweight" for me, and when I saw that number on the scale I decided then and there that I was NOT going to be overweight!! So here I am...

My advice for you, based on your post, is to not give yourself a "time limit" to lose all your weight by. Making a lifestyle change is the only way to truly lose weight in a healthy way, and keep it off for good. Taking things one day at a time, and setting weekly/monthly goals are excellent methods for doing so, but don't just try to lose 15lbs as quickly as possible.

In my experience, I have steadily been losing 1lb per week. I have really cut down on sweets, white carbs, etc. and eat lots of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat/fish, etc. (if you have any questions just ask! ) I work out 5 days/week (an hour or so of cardio plus weights 3-4x/week) and try to walk outside for 30min. to an hour every day.

It's important to maintain a positive attitude, but I don't think that 2lbs per week is a completely realistic goal for someone our size. Shooting for at least 1lb/week is very reasonable and healthy.

Anyways I hope you stick around at 3FC; it has helped me a lot so far to talk about weight loss issues with other people, and new faces are always welcome!!

Wink If you're obese . . .

. . . then I must be an elephant! Seriosuly though, I'm your height (5'4") and I weigh 131 lbs, wear size 8 clothes, and look pretty darn good in 'em.

My BMI is at the high end because I carry a lot of muscle but it's entirely in the normal range.

Weight does not come off in any totally regular pattern. I've been a member here for over a year and the 16 lbs. I've lost came off very gradually but it's staying off.

And you really aren't eating a lot. A good thing to have is one of those books with all the calorie counts in them. If you just write down what you eat every day for a week, then add up the calories for each day, and see if you've lost any weight that could be a guide to how much food you can eat and still lose weight.

Make small changes that you can stay with for life. I know that's kind of ridiculous to say to someone your age but it's great that you're starting so early in life to get and keep those healthy habits that will keep you going until you get to be old, like me .
