Default I am a newbie!!!

Hello everyone,

I am 31 going to be 32 here soon. I am currently trying to get to my goal weight and am slowly getting there. I currently quit smoking and gained a few pounds back. So that is a little discouraging.

I have a 12 year old daughter. So the issue of gaining the weight had nothing to do with having a child. I was always real thin until I hit about 22. I met my husband and then the weight just piled on. So during high school I weighed 120. I gained 65 pounds when i was pregnant. Two weeks after giving birth it came off. When I met my husband I weighed 145 which I felt that was an ideal weight for my height. Then I guess you get comfortable with the person you are with and the pounds just add up.

I would like to get down to 155. I have a very supportive husband. He loves me the way I am. So it is kindof hard to get motivated because if my husband still finds me attractive then why can't I feel that way about myself. I do not want my daughter to ever feel the way I do. But I do feel that if I am down on myself and pick up bad habits then she will learn that from me. So on a daily basis I let her know that I am proud of the young woman she is becoming.

I am currently watching my calorie intake and trying to excercise. It is very hard to get to the gym especially after a hard day of work. So I am falling behind when it comes to that.

I would love to hear from all of yall and get as many tips as I can.

Welcome! I'm new too. I think the first few days of the gym are always intimidating. I, too, hate the idea of working out after a long day staring at a computer, so I started to do it during lunch. Although, when I DO go after work, i find it so much easier to get home and actually be productive, instead of just flopping on the couch. The toughest part is actually getting to the gym. Once you're there, it's pretty easy.

congrats on quitting smoking!! I quit january of this year, too, and I'm so glad I did.

Hey Fergi ferg! (I am humming London Bridge as I type)

I think support is invaluable. I find that even on my down swing I tend not to stray too far from 3FC. It just help to keep you on track.

I think for me the most important thing was keeping focus.

Welcome!!! I am new too...but have been coming to the site for a long time now....I am finally taking time to write too... Congratulations on quitting smoking...I quit 8 years ago....It totally changed my life...Now I have to find with another bad habit...eating when it's not "time" to eat... Good luck!

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

I am just finding it hard these days especially since I did quit smoking. It was easy in the beginning because when I found myself looking for something to snack on I could smoke a cigarette. Now I don't have that.

So I am trying to replace it with activitiy. Even if it is vaccumming or doing laundry.

Hi fergi, I am new here too.....I just wanted to say that replacing smoking with exercise is completely possible, since that's exactly what my mom did years ago before she had me!

Thumbs up quitting smoking

Congrats to everyone who quits! I did it 25 years ago and have no regrets whatsoever.

There is that problem of what to do with your hands after you quit. The cigarette kept them busy .

I'm having that problem with TV and snacking. My hands need something to do and I'm a dolt with crafts and such.

My trainer suggested small weights and doing reps for strengthening the wrists while watching TV. There are also those asian balls that you roll in your hand to improve flexibility and co-ordination and to calm yourself. You just have to get the right size for your hands .
