Default Losing Sight

Some days, I'm super motivated and feeling great. But occasionally, I have moments where I completely "forget" or lose sight of why I'm trying to slim down. I have to fight with my mind and persuade myself that there's a very good, important reason why I'm on this journey (because there is!!), and it doesn't come easily.

It's not really the same as when I lose motivation or when I'm just plain tired/lazy... it's like my mind really blocks out all the good reasons why and I'm left feeling confused. This happens quite often and I want to figure out a way to remind myself why I'm working so hard.

Any suggestions?

Is this unique to me?!

The same thing happens to me! No matter how hard I try to convince myself that working out and eating correctly is worth it, I tend to blow it and pretend that I don't want to lose weight or feel better about myself. You're right, it's not about laziness, it's as if my mind believes that there really isn't a good reason to put forth the effort. It's like I have this little Italian on my shoulder saying "eh forgettaboutit"

I would also like to learn how to push through these mental blocks, I think it would make the journey to wellness and fitness that much smoother.

Default oh yes

Yes, I do lose sight that way too - the only way I try to counteract it is with visuals - I have the before pics which I loathe - charts to check off that I am accomplishing exercise goals and I hang pics or clothing items that I want to wear-
I can't say if this will work it's just what I am trying to create the new rhythm.

I'm in the same boat as you guys too! I'm hoping someone has some good suggestions. I forgot why I'm doing this after I got sick with the dreadful flu everyone got this year. I just went right back to my old ways like the new ones never existed. I went back to lying to myself that I look "alright" and I don't need to watch what I eat, etc.

Unhappy I am right beside you

I am in the same boat as some of yall. I have been off track trying to get back on since Spring Break.

My niece was in from Germany and I had the whole week off. Of course did not find time to go to the gym or eat right. We were on the road most of the time so eaty healthy was the last thing on my mind.

So since March 17th I have been fighting this losing battle of not going to the gym or eating right.

I always have an excuse not to do it. So you are not alone. Time to make excuses to do it. It is a mental block as you said.

Same here. I can't begin to count the times, especially recently, that I've thought "Why am I doing this to myself?" I think it just gets tiresome always worrying about calories and counting and measuring and making changes to be sure I'm within my range for the day. Most days all I want to do is get a cheeseburger and call it done. I sometimes miss the days when I didn't feel badly at ALL about eating greasy, fried food, just because it was so much easier.

My situation kind of reminds me of this show I was watching a while back, Celebrity Rehab, on VH1. The people in rehab did so well and were positive about their recovery until they were close to getting done with the program and having to make those changes stick in life. They started acting out and generally not caring anymore.

It's like the "easy way" of feeding myself and living without workouts was my addiction. Now I'm 2-3 pounds from my goal and "acting out," if you will.

I just tell myself every time I want to swing through the drive through that I haven't come THIS far to give it all away before I get into some size 10 pants. It helps.

When it comes to working out, I don't even let myself question it anymore because as soon as I do that, it's over. I won't go. Why bother? But if I go on autopilot and just do it, make it part of my daily routine, then I somehow can keep doing it. And of course, afterwards I'm like, "ohhh yeah, now I remember why I'm doing this!" Repeat cycle again next day.

Thanks guys, it's nice to know I'm not alone in my mental battles...

Hi Guys!

I can totally relate to the feelings you are all having. They seem to come up when I've lost just a little bit of weight, and start to feel better about myself....so I don't feel this super hard push to lose weight and stick with the plan.

I recently read "The Beck Diet Solution" and the method that she recommends, which works for me, is to write down a long list of all the reasons why you want to lose weight. Add experiences, feelings, clothing you want to wear....all that good stuff. Make copies of it to keep around, or in your purse, and then read it in the morning before you start your day, or before you eat big meals, or before you walk into a situation that you know is going to tempt you to cheat. Don't just skim over it, but really READ it and picture in your mind all of the things that you have written down.
I really find that it renews my commitment to myself and helps keep me focused.

I hope this helps you as much as it helps me......Good Luck and stick with it! You can do it!!!!
