Default When do you exercise when you have a full plate (no pun intended)?

I work full time and attend graduate school part time. Thank goodness I don't have children yet because I don't think I would survive. But I just joined this awesome online forum and I wanted to hear from you all who are crazy busy like me. When do you all exercise? Morning before work? After work in the evening? Before dinner? After dinner? I'm just trying to figure out when to fit in a workout. Any ideas or suggestions?

I run at 5:30 am so I can be home in time to get the kids off to school. Took awhile to get used to it, but now I have a hard time if I miss my morning workout

Cool Early morning for me

I do my yoga workout at 5:30 a.m. My work all day is walking and "labradorcize" so I don't do any other workout.

I just hired a trainer so I will now have to figure out how to do the once a week session with her. I'm usually too tired after work. Think she'll like the idea of coming to my palce for 5:30 a.m. ?

Seriosuly, she said it's better to fit in 10 minutes of something here and there during the day rather than not working out at all.

And as for the crazy busy thing I hear you. It seems we are all these days. I will have to give up some of my television and computer time to do my strength workouts. My DH will have to do his own laundry. You have to make time for health and fitness (ah so grasshopper )

It's worth it!

It probably depends on what you think a work-out is. A lot of days I can't find two hours to go to a gym.

Yesterday, I had a dental appt, had to get groceries, do some telephone stuff and work 3-11. I walked to the dentist and post office and danced for 20 minutes in front of the TV. I'm not going to get to look like Edyta Slovenska at that rate but I'm not going to gain weight either.

You just do what you can when you can... If you have no children it's easier to get up early and get out and just worry about yourself.... When the kids were little I got up at 5am had my coffee, was out the the door at 5:30 and at the gym then back home by 6:45 when DH left for work and my day began with 2 kids... You just have to find the time... YES it is very worth it...

With the busy life's people have sometimes one just has to take a few things off the plate. I am to tired to exercise, I am tired of being fat so I am not to tired to exercise. I don't have time to exercise, I don't have time to be fat anymore. It all depends on how one looks at things. I was like everyone else I guess when I worked 10 hours a day. Up and did a workout before I got the kids up and ready for school. Workout after dinner or after I put the kids to bed. Are we tired of being fat or are we to tired to do something about it.

I try to do the morning thing. Like you I am in grad school and work, so it makes for pretty long days, and its hard to find time otherwise. I usually get home around 7:30 and then I eat dinner and usually have a lot of work to do, so its hard to get in time for a gym run. The only way I've found to really make more time is getting up earlier in the morning. I still definitely struggle with getting up earlier and my workouts aren't as long as I'd like them to be, but its better than nothing.

Hi Angie,

I used to work out in the morning - on an empty stomach. I have sinced changed jobs and now work 7a-3p. I have to work out at night. I try to eat a lighter dinner around 4:30 and work out around 6. I can't stand to eat anything after 6pm or else I go to bed feeling full. I prefer morning work outs on an empty stomach but have to save them now for the weekend.

Good luck!

The ONLY place here to get a workout, other than spending thousands of dollars on equipment for home, is the local hospital, which opens its PT department and equipment to the public.

I'm also really busy with work most of the year, and can't ever find more than an hour a day to go. Evenings are horrible for me, and I'm a morning person, so I'll get up and hit the gym when it opens at 6 a.m., then come home, get ready and get to work.

I'm not the busiest person, but I like to keep my evenings as relaxation time and I like to sleep in in the mornings, so for the most part so I fit in my workouts on my lunch breaks at work. I do lift weights while watching tv sometimes as well, I'll do crunches during commercials or whatever . I work in a med school and a lot of the students will study as they use the stair climbers or treadmills or whatever, perhaps that would be a way for you to find time, to combine it with studying?

Mud
Thank you.

Something else, working out doesn't have to be expensive lol. I have a set of dumbbells cost about 3 dollars, a stretchy cord cost about 3 dollars and a walk away the waist belt, cost video and belt 13 dollars. I have dozens of Leslie Sansone videos ( I love her lol ) got most of them used at yard sales, video stores, library and on sale at amazon. You really don't have to spend a lot of money thank heavens because I don't have any money lol.

Thanks for all the awesome suggestions! I would love to be a morning workout person, though I have tried, it just does not work for me because I don't have the energy to put into. So then I end up eating before the workout but my belly feels weird when I jump around to a workout tape or walk/run on the treadmill. So late afternoon/night working out seems to be good for me, it's just finding the time to fit it in after a long day at work.

I did good this week, two nights on the treadmill and two Firm DVDs - Hard Core Fusion on Tuesday and Cardio Party on Friday (which is fabulous for me b/c I generally lapse on weekends)

I just can not tell everyone how much I am looking forward to graduating from grad school next year! Maybe then I may have a normal schedule??

I don't exercise, I bought Windsor palates a few months back and never even tried it. I'm thinking now that I am nearing my goal I should start doing something to tone up. I was thinking about maybe taking karate lessons. I would have a standing appointment so I would feel obligated to go.
