Default Sitting on my hands

I just got some bad news, and my first reaction when I get bad news is to reach for something bad for me, like a cookie. I'm literally going to sit on my hands to keep myself from doing this. I won't, I must be strong...

Cookies do not make bad news go away !!!! Sorry for the bad news -- would a walk give you some meditation time to help????

Maybe...if it weren't pouring down rain, 35 degrees and if I weren't waiting for the young'uns to come home from school.

just say no to the cookies (and all else that is bad for you)! write a blog, write a post, let your feelings out through another avenue other than eating. it's what i have had to learn to do and so far it has been working.

I'm taking the young'uns to get their hair cut in a bit, so I'll be safe in the car, where there's no chocolate, or candy, or cookies.

Hope it worked! Sorry I wasn't around to offer support, but I agree with those who say it's great if you can distract yourself for a while till the craving goes away.

I did the dishes til the boys got home and then I whisked them in the car to their hair appointment...which was badly needed...my 8 year old looks like a rooster when he wakes up in the morning

Question Eating vs expressing emotions

My DH's sister said it best (and she's significantly overweight as is all of his family).

"I eat when I'm happy or sad, angry or stressed or bored. That's what eating's for, to help you through all the bad times and to celebrate the good ones".

We all reach for the "bad" food when we're in an emotional state at one time or another (or in my own case most of the time ). On the "Biggest Loser" last week one of the trainers had her mom, a psychotherapist, talk about their eating/emotional issues with the black team members.

Not all of us have the money or time to go through therapy. We have to learn to do something else, like post here or go for a walk, or take the kids to have their hair cut . It takes a lot of time to change old habits.

Does anyone know of a good article/book/dvd that addresses "emotional" eating?
