Planning & Chat for Jan 21. - Jan. 27
Good Morning!
Welcome to a new week. Is everyone still committed to their new year's diet/exercise plans? How are you coping with the cold weather (those of us who have winter)? Have a great week! Dagmar :D :D :D |
We Found My Car!!!
:dancer: :cp: :yay: :D
And the best part is that DH and I were out exercising together when we found it . I take him out for an hour/2 hour walk on the weekends. His reward is tea and a cookie (he refers to himself as my "biggest dog"). We were heading up to Starbucks from the boardwalk and there was my car, 4 blocks from where it was stolen. My wallet and the change thingee from the dash (ripped right out) are gone but I HAVE MY BABY BACK!! I literally jumped up and down on the sidewalk and kissed/hugged the car and DH :goodvibes:. The police are dusting the car for prints at impound and then I get it back. I'll have to get the locks changed but that's a small price to pay in comparison to having to finance a new car. Now I can get back to the business of losing weight rather than maintaining. I'm still at 133. Have a terrific week everyone!!! Dagmar :lucky: |
Good morning!
We had our car stolen once. Not fun! Have I got some vacation repair work to do! Between the holidays and our vacation ... I'm not sure what I weigh but I only had one pair of pants to chose from for church yesterday. Ick ... fluffy! It wouldn't hurt for me to walk to the grocery store about six times today. |
That's great news Dagmar!! Amazing! I'm so happy for you.
Things are good with me - today anyway. I had a friend over for the weekend and the diet derailed quite a bit. But since I'm 3 weeks into my exercise plan and have done extremely well, I decided to sit down and add on a nutrition component to my plan. I think I've realized that charts and visuals help me to follow a plan. So now right beside my activity plan chart is a new chart that has a few guidelines (like amount of water, # of veggie servings, # of protein servings, caloric range, breakfast, stopping eating with enough time before bed, no alcohol).. rewards are made accordingly. I also went out and got a whiteboard last night that I will use every day to write my menu on so I can use that as a guide. Because I am an organizational crazy person, this makes it fun for me. I think it will be a lot better than just winging it. I am not sure if I will weigh myself tonight because I'm certain I've gained weight rather than lose and I dont want to get discouraged. I'm off to work. Have a good day everyone. |
Dagmar!! That's fantastic news!! :carrot: Can't believe you found it yourself,,,, wow!
|
Oh good grief. They raised the newbie signature minimum posts to 30. 2 more posts after this one to get my siggie back :p
Dagmar - I walked both my pups at the same time on their Halti's yesterday :carrot: Next we're going to try my husband walking one and myself walking the other. We haven't been able to do this too well as they go nuts. It's been a month or two since I've been able to walk them together!! They're over 60lbs each now and that puppy power when they were out together was insane! You have no idea how excited I am about these! I was so proud of them walking like good, not-so-little pups yesterday! :D Susan - vacation is always worth a bit of fluffiness IMO ;) Bikini - I love your wipe board idea! |
Dagmar - Woohoo!!!! You got your car AND hubby is walking with you!! Great weekend for you!
Wow, Bikini - I'm very impressed with your system. I know it wouldn't work for me (well, maybe for 1-2 days), but it sounds like a great motivational tool for you! Susan - welcome back! We've missed you! Where was vacation? I agree with Tamsie... a vacation is worth a little bit of fluff. I'm sure you're ready to get back on track now. Tamsie - I'd love to have a recumbent. Enjoy your cardio, but don't overdue it either. Don't worry about me overdoing it. I think I'm so out of shape now that overdoing it would be impossible and out of the question ;) Let's have a great week, girls. I for one have GOT to see some downward movement on my ticker!! p.s. Tamsie - I didn't know you had to have 30 posts... post away!!! |
We have friends who have a little farm in Alabama. It is delightfully relaxed! Warm enough for shirt sleeves. I slept a lot!
|
Dagmar, so happy to hear about your car! One less thing to worry about now. I know you've been having a tough time lately, so hopefully things will start looking up!
Bikini, I totally agree about having a plan. I log everything into DailyPlate as soon as possible after eating it, and it really helps me when I do that rather than save it all up and log it at once, because if I do it constantly I find myself adjusting what I'm eating based on my current counts. I also like the run/walk challenge thread in the exercise forum, because it makes me want to do more just to keep posting and get my numbers up there! I'm still in Boston till tomorrow, but my friend is STILL sleeping, so I'm going to do some abs work before he can get up and see me and I can get embarrassed :) Then lots and lots of working out tomorrow to make up for not doing much today/yesterday. The good news is, even without working out yesterday, I only ate 50 cals above my goal for the day - not too bad, especially since we were drinking while watching the football game! We grabbed chips and dip at the store, but I also picked up a bag of baby carrots and really tried to eat those at least half the time, and it worked. |
:woohoo: and :cp: Dagmar... finding your own car, what a fluke!!
Laura -- Good for you for munching on carrots instead of chippies ... It's almost time for me to go home... I look forward to my 50 minute commute some days because I get to eat my carrots and celery that I am starving for right now... I'd eat my left arm right now if that were a possibility  ... Back later  |
Well, despite being perfectly on plan with eating and exercise since Jan 2 and having dropped my calories down to 1200 a day, I'm still not losing any weight and am feeling pretty frustrated about it this morning. At 1200 calories a day, I'm pretty much hungry all the time--I never feel like I've gotten enough to eat, so the fact that I'm not losing any weight is very discouraging. I really hope to see some progress by the end of the week.
I did make a big pot of soup with turkey sausage and lots winter veggies (turnips, kohlrabi, parsnips, carrots, and brussels sprouts) on Sunday. It's five very large servings, each at only 260 calories, so I have some nice low calorie lunches to keep me on track this week. Dagmar: That's awesome about your car! It sounds like it is still in pretty good shape, too. When we got my SO's car back after it was stolen, it was a mess. They stripped it of everything that wasn't nailed down, including the tires (they had replaced them with some crappy tires) and we think they had been off-roading with it because it was so filthy. He had to have it detailed. |
I had a nice post going and the site started having problems....
Dagmar~I'm so glad you got your car back. I hope you don't have too much difficulty with having had your wallet stolen. Ilene & Dagmar~I agree that not drinking really helps me to lose weight. Not so much because of snacking, but just losing those empty calories. Barbara~Soup has been my friend lately. I made a really good soup with turkey Italian sausage, tomatoes, spinach and a bunch of other things the other day. It was so good! I'm making it again this week with some minor variations (adding kidney beans for one). |
Just got back from gym... didn't do a ton, but it was first time there since October!!!! So, yes, I'm excited to be back in the swing of things. My friend and I walked for 30 and lifted for 30.
Eating is OP so far. I got back into fitday this weekend, so now I have accountability. |
Way to get back in there, Claire :cheer2:
Dagmar, how crazy is it that you found your own car :dizzy:. It sounds like it's not in to bad of shape, so this is some good news! Welcome back Susan  and hello to all I missed. Well I gained a pound last week, but I managed not to gain anymore over the weekend. That counts for something, ehh :p. I'll work a little harder this week. I would at least like to lose 4 lbs. this month. I need to get that weight moving in a different direction. |
Men are from Mars
My DH committed to "getting in shape" during the next three months. Told me this in all sincerity while eating a bag of chocolate chunk cookies :?: I think that gives me permission to nag him about snacking now :p although I caved and had three of those same cookies :o .
Dagmar  |
Whew... had a terrible night of insomnia, sleeping for only 3 hours (if that). I HATE when that happens!! I have to stay on track and go to gym as planned... will go to bed early tonight.
Barbara - I wanted to tell you to hang in there. You'll see a difference soon! Maybe up your fiber?? |
Barbara That's frustrating. I was under the impression that 1200 wasnt enough to eat. I'm trying to eat 1500 -1700 and now I'm wondering if I'm eating too many? I was eating 1800 and found that didnt help.
Claire It is so tough to stay on plan when you are tired. Drink lots of water. I hope you have a good day. Yesterday was great for me. I followed my plan to a T! Today I am on site though for testing and this is the first time we've been at this location so everyone is talking about where to go for lunch etc. So far, I've packed very healthy food (hummus, carrots, apple, granola bar) that wont require a fridge. I have my leftovers from last night to have as soon as I get home. Hopefully that will work. I do not want to go to TIm Hortons or Pizza (those were the two things I heard from others.. yikes). I did a really tough gym class last night and felt great after. Normally I do a yoga class afterward on Mondays but I needed to eat something and was exhausted. So I came home, had dinner and then had an herbal tea for dessert!! That was some huge success for me. Have a great day everyone. |
Popcorn was the culprit last night. I stayed up to watch one too many shows. Must go to sleep earlier ;)
|
Walking: Thanks. I don't think it's the fiber. I get a fair amount, 20g to 30g per day. At one point I was even trying to reduce the fiber in my diet because I thought I might be eating too much, but that was when I was eating more. 20-30g on a 1200 calorie diet seems fine (I think the RDA for 2,000 calorie diet is 25g).
Bikini: 1200 calories is absolute minimum you should eat without professional supervision. It is an acceptable calorie level, you just shouldn't be below that on a regular basis unless your diet is supervised by a doctor or nutritionist. 1200 is what my gym recommends for a person of my height and weight to lose weight (their recommendations are just weight based--there are other websites out there with more sophisticated formulas). Everyone's metabolism is different; I've always had to be below 1400 calories per day to lose weight. But when I weighed a little more, I was able to lose at 1300-1400 per day (in fact, last time I was at this weight, I was able to lose at that level, I don't know why it is such a problem for me now). If you just dropped to 1500-1700, I'd give it at least a couple of weeks before lowering your calories again. If you still are losing, then try dropping another 100. You want to find the highest calorie level where you are able to lose at a reasonable rate, so that if you do plateau, you've got room to drop your calories further. |
Susan - We are sooo alike. I love to stay up late, and it often is a dangerous snacking time for me. And, I'm a popcorn fanatic!
Barbara - yes, 20-30 grams is certainly plenty of fiber. I know you are very wholesome and balanced in what you eat... I was just grasping at straws. There was a great thread that may be bookmarked somewhere (maybe on the Living Maintenance thread) about breaking through a plateau. I remembered that upping fiber was one idea, but I can't remember all the others. There were lots of helpful tips though. Ate about 1550 today with 45 min. walk. Boy, I am really just easing back into healthful living! Baby steps! |
Awesome news about your car, Dagmar!
Well, the good news is that I'm down two pounds over the weekend. The bad news is that it's not from diet or exercise, it's from Strep! I felt like I was swallowing razor blades---YUCK!! So, I'll probably gain that right back, but I'm changing my ticker for now! |
Hi Everyone,
Lots of good news on here! Mine is not so great but still ok. I was making my healthy lunch today when my friend called and said she was on her way to get me. I had to put my food away since it wasnt ready and ended up splitting a frozen pizza with her at her house because I was starving. I had a healthy dinner though and the rest of the day was healthy but I'm still over in calories a bit because of that pizza. What can I do now? nothing really but I marked it down and hopefully that will remind me to be more careful the rest of the week. I was really craving a treat tonigth but after I logged in my calories and had to put a dreaded x instead of a check mark on my chart because I went over in calories I no longer want anything that will increase my calories! So that's good. I have to be proud of myself for passing up two days of treats. I have been doing work on another site which included trays of stuff like danishes, muffins and croissants. I did not touch a single one. And they smelled AMAZING. It was really hard but I did it! I did a step class today and my biceps and triceps so at least I'm sticking with the gym. Have a good night everyone. |
Bikini - Good job today, girl, passing on the tray of pastries - pastries are one of my very biggest weaknesses. If they are in my house, I will eat them (hence I don't ever have them in my house, but they sure can be hard to avoid at work!)
|
Well Claire, I hope you're having better luck with that than I am. I'm thinking of taking something that puts me to sleep at about 7 pm ;)
|
I had a brain wave! When I make my bed, I'm going to put my knitting on the pillow! In theory ... I'll knit while I watch TV instead of fetching a snack!
|
Great idea! I've wanted to start knitting but I need to go to a lesson or something. I have been taught by a couple people but they weren't very sure themselves and I didn't really get it. I just spent 3 hours doign work that I thought was useless in the beginning, pointed it out, was told it was necessary, then after wasting time doing it, finally got through to the project manager that there was no point doing it! if only he had listened to me the first time I'm so frustrated, I'm off to the gym to burn some of that off. At least I'm no longer eating in times like this!
|
Well, the good news is that my weight has finally come in a lb lower for two days straight. Hopefully it will stick and that progress will continue. The bad news is that I'm sick (which is particularly frustrating because I was just sick less than a month ago). :tired: So that probably means no exercise for a week. We'll see, right now I don't feel so bad that I couldn't do a light workout. And at least my trainer is sick right now too. If he's going to be sick and I'm going to be sick, it might as well be at the same time--fewer missed sessions that way.
Bikini: That's great that you managed to eat healthy for the rest of the day despite the pizza and didn't give in to your cravings at night. I have one off plan meal and I throw in the towel for the day--it's really something I'm trying to work on. Susan: Great minds think alike. I've also been thinking of taking up knitting so I can do it while I watch TV. Keeping my hands busy definitely keeps me from snacking. My SO has pointed out, however, that maybe I should just finish one of the quilts I have started, rather than starting a new project. Somehow starting a new project is always more alluring than finishing an old one. ;) |
Day 3 as an invalid (of sorts) - feeling like Jabba the hut.
Think I am over the pouting phase and can get back on track with the food plan. Trouble is - I am bored, stuck in the house...and we know what that can lead to. I quite sure I've only sprained my ankle, I can put weight on it today, swelling is not so bad and I can rotate my ankle. Hmmmm, I wonder how long before I can ski again. I've been surfing like a fiend - signed up for the PC fitday - seems well worth the $$, maybe I will put in all my custom foods while I am stuck here. Sounds like everyone is on track to getting off those pesky pds so far. I am hoping to follow in your tracks very soon. Have a great day. -S |
The cookies are calling
So I find my car, save the insurance co. a bunch of money for my claim, and now they are treating me  as the criminal.
My adjuster, who never answers her &%*@ phone, is treating my claim with "prejudice". Some other insurance person is coming out to "interview" me on Tuesday before they will even fix the little things broken by the thief inside my car. I am out just under $1000 for new locks and a new door handle, which he also broke. Plus there are all the things I had to replace like gloves, backpack, planner, etc. and a towing charge that should never have happened. And I lost two days pay at work - no compensation as I'm self employed. Dammit!!! I am staying away from the grocery store for now but it sure is tempting to console myself with something very sugary and fattening. Dagmar (I need a smiley with steam coming out its ears) |
Hugs, Dagmar. I'd be looking for wine if I were in your shoes. I understand what you mean about the insurance guys. I've had my homeowners insurance with the same company for 17 years (two houses) and until this week, I'd NEVER filed a claim. They are sure making it difficult to get $500 to replace my $2500 tree--it's almost as if they think I'm making it up (why don't they call the police department and ask for a copy of the report--why don't they ask for my photos of the evidence?). Aargh!!! But no, I'll go home and try to stay away from the nuts in the pantry while I make my low cal, low fat minestrone for dinner.

Good evening everyone. Again, I have not kept up with my resolve to post in here every day.
I have been doing fine on the eating and exercising front though. It's been raining here for the past couple of days. Raining and cold! YUCK! Barbara-I'm exactly the same as you; if I go off plan for one meal the whole day is shot as far as I'm concerned. I also need to work on that. Dagmar-:hug:I hate dealing with insurance companies (although I must say when I had my car accident where I needed surgery and my car was totalled, etc. my insurance co. and the other lady's insurance co. were both great and paid out money, etc. with no fight but I guess it was obvious whose fault it was and there was no mistaking my injuries but I've had other dealings with insurance companies and grrrrrr so good luck to you). Hope everyone has a good rest of the night. Talk to you tomorrow (hopefully if I keep up my resolve to get in here every day. I am going to do it!). Bye |
I didn't knit last night but I didn't snack either.
Funny ... my knitting has been negected since I've been playing with quilting stuff. |
I had a bad night last night with eating. I got some treats at the store when I was out with my friend and ate a bunch of them. I'm going out for dinner tonight and I have to stay on plan. It's always so tough when you go out but it is possible so I'm going to remember that and also eat super healthy all day to make sure I dont go over. I'm not really going out at all this weekend because I want to keep doing my workouts and not be tired and I also dont want to drink. I really want to see a change on the scale!
|
I have been sticking with my eating plan and exercise for the past few days. This morning, the scale showed a 1 1/2 pound loss. Sunday is my "official" weigh-in day, so I won't change my stats until then in case this is temporary water loss.
I will be facing a challenge tomorrow. I will be going to a potluck lunch with six of my quilting friends. Usually three bring high sugar/high fat desserts. I am kind of a sugar addict and am planning to take fruit and nuts as a dessert contribution. I can manage reasonable portions of the main meal, but usually cave when it comes time for the desserts a couple of hours later. It is hard for me to eat less than 1600 calories while trying to lose weight. I can lose 1/2 pound a week with my exercise level, but a major pig-out of high sugar/high fat desserts can easily undo a whole week's work. I need to learn to "just say no" and do what is best for my body. |
Good evening. Day #2 in a row of checking in :carrot:
Today was kind of a lazy day although I did get some things done around here. I actually did quite a bit of laundry and made dinner! I also went to Curves and to 24 hr. Fitness and did the elliptical there. I've now taken some Nyquil because I want to be to sleep by 6:30 pm because I have to get up at 10:30 to go to work (it's my Monday ) Allison-I have been meaning to ask you, how is your Mom doing? I know she had broken her leg in a couple of places right? That was around Christmas so not sure if you have been updating but I must have missed it? Hope everyone is have a good eating and exercising day (and everything else :D). Talk to you tomorrow. Jane |
stress for weight loss
Finally got up the courage to step on the scale after many, many days of being very off plan. It says I've LOST 2 lbs.
 I was expecting to be up at least 2 so I'm a happy camper this weekend. Will be OP until Monday's weigh-in. I'm taking a couple of "me" days and then jumping in to deal with all of the insurance company's b*llsh@t. :D Have a great weekend everyone! Dagmar :lucky: |
:) Yesterday I was down a bit, and I'm so glad!
I'll post more later |
Dagmar, congrats on the 2 pound loss!
|
Jane~thanks for asking about my Mom. She went into the hospital on Wednesday for an angiogram and they ended up doing a graft from her groin all the way down to her upper calf. She has really poor circulation. The ortho doc that she saw the previous day ordered another 4 weeks non-weight bearing. But in the hospital, he ordered some sort of device that constantly bends her knee which is good because she won't lose joint mobility (my SIL who is an RN was worried about that). She's back in the nursing home today and I'll talk with her tonight. Apparently, she is doing well after the surgery and although they can't get a pedal pulse, her swelling is diminishing and she says she feels more comfortable (although just taking off the full leg split has to ease some pain).
Dagmar~congrats on the 2 pounds! I haven't lost an ounce this week, but that is usually the norm. I can diet strictly for 2-3 weeks and it isn't until TOM that I actually lose (and then it can be 5 or more pounds that week). I just have to keep my wits about me and not cave into the wine! Cat~contrats on the 1.5 pounds! Were you able to resist the desserts? Gotta run. (Literally, I need to get my 2 mile run in this morning!) |
Sorry I've been MIA for a few days - work has been keeping me really busy and I haven't had much free time. Yesterday we had our quarterly staff meeting, and I ate/drank a RIDICULOUS amount. 2000 calories over, even after an early morning workout! Unbelievable - I don't think I've ever been that bad before. Today I'm eating light. I found this minestra recipe on Food Network and I'm enjoying it for lunch at only 196 calories per big serving (you can see the nutritional info on Daily Plate along with the modifications I made to the recipe).
Tomorrow is my half-marathon! I am super excited about that. My mom is driving down to the city right now to stay over and cheer me on, which is great. Only disappointment is that I tried to get rush tickets to Legally Blonde for tonight for us, and missed them by 5 minutes because I stayed at the gym too long. Oops! We're going to go see the movie "27 Dresses" instead I think. Hope everyone has a great OP weekend! |
