Workout/Weigh-in Accountability - January 20 to 31...

A new thread to start off anew :D .....

Today I weighed in at 154, which is good... I'm down 5# since January 2nd... Very happy with that I must say :D ....

DH and I just came back from a 2 hour walk... We stopped for breakfast mid way, it's my favourite kind of day, bright and :sunny: cold -15c with no wind ... I didn't run because I'm still nursing a chest cold ....

So since January 1st how has everyone else done? I'm looking forward to the responses good or bad.... because we are all in this together....

3fcuser1058250 01-20-2008 07:24 PM

Just wanted to add that I also swam this afternoon... I feel quite virtuous :D

walking2lose 01-20-2008 10:26 PM

Wow! Go Ilene!!!

My 'workout' was quite minimal compared to yours, but since I've done nothing for a while now, it felt good to move. 10 pushups and a 45 minute brisk walk. Gym tomorrow!

back at it 01-20-2008 11:10 PM

:wave:I'll do an official weigh in tomorrow but as of today there doesnt seem to be any change:mad:I've been working my buttocks off to! LOL!
I'll have to do some measurments also...
Tomorrow I start phase 3 of SI6 and I hear it's pretty quick paced, hope I can keep up with being asthmatic and all:dizzy:wish me luck!
Catch ya tomorrow!:D

Tamsie 01-21-2008 09:45 AM

Ilene! You're an animal walking in that cold weather!!! Congrats on the 5 lb loss too!

Claire - have fun at the gym! I bet you'll be happy to be back... take it easy though :)

Back at it - good luck with phase 3 of SI6!

I'm starting to feel well enough to start doing some low to moderate intensity cardio! I'm going start off with riding my recumbent for 30 min this evening.

I'm down 7 lbs since Jan 2nd, but probably 3-4 of that was just water/bloat.

BlueToBlue 01-21-2008 01:03 PM

I have pretty much been POP with diet and exercise since January 2. I wasn't losing, so I dropped my calories down to 1200 a week or so ago. Amazingly, I'm still not losing. I've dropped some weight since I started, but mostly just water and pretty much all in the first week. Since then, no progress at all and I'm still over my high goal by 3-4 lbs (and over my low goal by 8-9 lbs).

Exercise for this week will be:
- Mon: one hour with trainer
- Tues: ellipital for 30 min, abs for 15 min (should be a spinning class, but I have a hair appt so I think I'll have to miss it)
- Wed: one hour with trainer
- Thurs: one hour cardio class
- Fri: one hour with trainer
- Sat: one hour swim with intervals
- Sun: ellipital for 30 min, abs for 15 min

With all that exercise and 1200 calories a day, you'd think I'd be losing weight, but you'd be wrong. I'm feeling a little frustrated about it.

thisrlipo 01-21-2008 01:23 PM

Hi all first time posting in one of these threads...it's fun to see how& what everyone is doing. weighed this a.m. at 148.5, so a whopping 1.5 lbs down from last Monday :carrot:. I'm on track to meet my mini goal of 145 by Vday-but I have some BIG obstacles coming my way (noted below) Didn't workout a lick yesterday. as for the rest of the week...

Mon: bootcamp at 5:30-6:30 a.m. (it was 41 with a wind chill of 20 here)
Tues: Bootcamp 5:30-6:30 a.m. + 30 min run at Y on treadmill@9:30
Wed. Bootcamp + 30 min run
Thur. 1 hour cardio @Y (maybe 30 min Zumba)
Fri. Bootcamp & yoga
Sat 1 hour cardio @ Y + 30 min Zumba
Sunday-rest it Family day

This week and next is going to be eventful: Wed night is girl's night out with one group of friend at a Tapas restaurant, Sat night is a trashy tacky party with 20 other couples, my dad is in town, 1/30 is my baby's 2nd bday, another neighborhood girl's night out at someone's home, and 2/3 is the actual bday party for DD.....I am going to need lots of help and guidance...this is totally when I fail!!!

Tamsie 01-21-2008 02:40 PM

Barbara - hang in there! That water weight loss you had at first is probably translating into fat loss... does that make sense? So you aren't seeing it on the scale.. but you will.

I went from 149 down to 143.5 my first week - of course that was water weight. It took almost another 2 weeks to move down to 142.

Your body has NO choice but to let go of the fat sooner or later!

Oh and Welcome! Thisrlipo :)

3fcuser1058250 01-21-2008 10:51 PM

 thisrlipo

I had a good leg workout tonight about an hour and then 20 mins on the bike while I waited for my g/f...

Food was so-so... .... but the calories were still low enough...

I haven't gone down in weight this week either...

back at it 01-21-2008 11:47 PM

Ah Poop! No weight loss here either but 2 inches off my waist,.25 off my neck and an inch off each thigh this week!Seems weird that I'm not loosing any weight though doesn't it???? What gives with that??? I know muscle weight more than fat but it can't be transformed that fast!GRrrrr!
I'd REALLY like to lose weight around that belly between the waist and the hips...sigh...

Mudpie 01-22-2008 05:50 AM

Body thinks you're starving?

Barbara Might your body be telling you it's starving? With all that workout and such restricted calories your metabolism might have gone into ultra conservation mode. Maybe some additional high density calories/protein for a couple of days to get your metabolism fired up again?

Dagmar

srmb60 01-22-2008 08:39 AM

Well, since I promised myself I'd do better after the holidays and vacation ... I think I'll own up now.

I came home at 140 lbs.

Yesterday, I had a short walk and a listless little leg workout. I ate about 1000 cals of stuff that was not good for me.

I certainly can do better than that today.

3fcuser1058250 01-22-2008 12:34 PM

Great run this morning... I was gone for 50 minutes 5.14k...

Weight is the same

srmb60 01-22-2008 12:49 PM

Snow shovelling for cardio today. It was really pretty nice out.

Isn't that what we all want to hear? ;) But sadly, I've already tried that. Up until two weeks ago, I was eating at a higher calorie level (1500 per day) and not losing at that level either. And I'm eating around 100g of protein per day; it's 30% to 40% of my overall calorie intake. So I don't think it's that my body's starving.

Tamsie 01-22-2008 01:54 PM

Did 30 minutes on the recumbent last night.

I'm going to try out my elliptical tonight while the Biggest Loser is on.

Scenestealer 01-22-2008 04:20 PM

Tam, I always elliptical for an hour or so of TBL... it's definitely inspirational and makes me less likely to give up when I see how hard the contestants are working!

3fcuser1058250 01-22-2008 06:34 PM

Just my 2 cents about the "starvation theory", I don't think anyone or any of us has gotten fat because we were starving ourselves, quite the opposite actually... IMHO don't believe that theory... :soap:

I shoveled another half hour today and food has been spot on :D:D:D

walking2lose 01-22-2008 09:09 PM

45 minutes at gym, walking on treadmill. It's going to take a while to get back in shape!

Susan - I gained back everything I lost in last year in the last 3 or 4 months (various reasons). I was quite discouraged and even disgusted with myself, but now that I'm focused on getting back on track, I feel relieved. I, too, had to fess up and change my ticker. I don't want to gain and lose the same 10 lbs every year for the rest of my life, but maybe I am destined to do so.

Anyway, here's to getting back on track... we can do it!!!

Barb - hang in there. It's gotta be discouraging when you are doing everything right and not having results... I agree with Tams... the scales gotta budge soon.

To Illene and Susan - you Canadians really make me feel wimpy -- 1 hour runs, snow shoveling, swimming! Wow. I just want to curl up inside when it hits about 40 degrees! What a wimp I am. :-)

Mudpie 01-23-2008 07:35 AM

Canadians are a tough lot - OT a bit

I should know - I'm one of 'em. I spend 7-8 hours a day outside in all sorts of weather. We just get used to it. But so do many Americans in the northern states as well as northern Europeans etc.

I think I would have problems in a place like Arizona where it hits over 100 degrees F regularly or with the humidity in Texas or Florida. You have to wear a minimum of clothes, no matter how hot it is. ;)

Dagmar

back at it 01-23-2008 01:41 PM

LOL! Me too! I'd rather deal with the -45ish C weather than have to be hot and sweaty all the time! LOL!
Shoveling snow is a good workout, I don't like to do it though! LOL!

3fcuser1058250 01-23-2008 03:05 PM

I much prefer cold weather to hot humid... I rarely run in the summer because of the heat, you can't strip off layers in the winter you can...

BlueToBlue 01-23-2008 07:49 PM

Not me! Bring on the heat! :hot: :sunny: I'm always cold, so even hot temperatures don't feel that warm to me. Mid-80's feels pleasantly warm. Anything below that feels a little chilly. It's got to get well into the 90's before I start fo feel hot.

It's true, I can't run outdoors once temperatures get above 70, but it's small price to pay for finally being warm.

walking2lose 01-23-2008 08:00 PM

I'm a Virginia girl, so hot and humid is what I'm used to. I've never thought a thing about going for a long bike ride or walk or run, even during the heat of the day in the hottest months. There are only a few extreme days each summer when I just can't take the heat. Being outside for 7 hours a day in a Canadian winter seems like the tougher draw to me, so I guess it really is what our bodies acclimate to.

Went to gym today but only for about 40 minutes.

Nice! I only made it 5 minutes!:o I'm working my way back though... I'm waaay out of shape.

Tamsie 01-24-2008 09:33 AM

Last night, the only exercise I got was 40 minutes walking my dogs.

I'm a born and raised southwest Florida girl. I prefer 75 - 85 degrees. I don't spend much time outside in the summers here... but our "winter" season is gorgeous! I love having the air off and the house open for 4-5 months.

I did spend about 12 years living 'up north'.. including a winter on cape cod and a year in Anchorage. I'll take 10 degrees in Anchorage over 40 in Boston any. day. I hate the eastern seaboard cold... even NC, the last place I lived before I moved back to FL, winters were just too dreary, wet, nasty for me.

RexsCorks 01-24-2008 11:15 AM

Tam-I love that KISS. My husband syas I am OCD about it. 5 days a week I am at the gym twice a day. I work with a trainer 3 days a week and do cardio every day. I even voluntarily so the stairmaster!! Maybe equal to shoveling snow? Oh my I would never make it!! LOL I am a wimp in cold weather.

Barbara-I know the body going into starvation does sound crazy but a person burns approximately 1200-1400 calories a day doing nothing. It's your resting metabolic rate. So when we work out we burn more than we take it which is how we loose. My trainer said I should be eating about 1800 calories a day and I was trying to loose a lot more weight then than I am now. I'm definitely not an expert but 1200 does seem really low. That's what they put the morbidly obese on. Just keep pluging and trying.

Everyone thanks for posting. I love reading about everyone else's stories. It's always encouraging!!

3fcuser1058250 01-24-2008 05:16 PM

This morning I ran in -18c/-0.4F ... It was actually cold because there was no sun and it was very damp... I only ran for 35 minutes...

thisrlipo 01-24-2008 07:44 PM

all I can say is, WOW!!!

Actually, that's not true--they don't put the morbidly obese on 1200 calorie a day diets. The more you weigh, the more you need to eat to maintain that weight and the more you can eat and still lose weight. So the morbidly obese are often on much higher calorie diets than you would expect--sometimes as much 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day for women (more for men). 1200 calories a day would be dangerously low for someone who is morbidly obese.

That's also why, when you had much more weight to lose, you were eating more than I can eat now to lose weight (not that you were morbidly obese, of course you weren't anywhere near that ;), but you weighed more and maintaining that weight required more calories, so you could cut fewer calories to lose weight). When I was at a higher weight, I could lose weight on more calories per day as well. But as you lose weight, your body requires fewer calories and you have to continue to drop your calories if you want to continue to lose. You are also 3 inches taller than me, which makes a big difference in how many calories your body needs to maintain its weight. 1200 calories is not low for someone who weighs 117 (as of this morning, yay, 1 lb down, finally) and is only 5'4".

It's also clear that the problem isn't that I'm not eating enough. I have tried a number of different calories levels (anywhere from 1300 per day to 1600 per day) and I definitely do not lose weight when I eat more.

CatR 01-25-2008 12:28 AM

Today I did a relatively easy step 30-minute workout because I am getting over a nasty cold. Tomorrow is a weight training day. I should be able to get through it OK, maybe with a bit lighter weights. I only ate what I planned to eat for the day.

I gained 2 pounds over the holidays, lost the 2 pounds and regained them when I was visiting family for 10 days. I am going to be home for 10 weeks now. My goal is to get down to 130 pounds during this period.

srmb60 01-25-2008 08:47 AM

Yesterday, I walked and did some sort of mixed cardio and weights while watching TV. Cals were much better too.

Bikini Dreader 01-25-2008 09:13 AM

I'm joining.. this is inspiring to see everyone keeping up their workouts and losing pounds!

Today I dont feel like going to the gym and it doesnt work with my work/personal schedule so I've made my own plan which puts together the stairs in my apartment, my exercise ball and my weights. Lucky my house is equipped enough so that on freezing days i can still get a workout in. I have no excuse!

RexsCorks 01-25-2008 04:10 PM

BluetoBlue: I agree we could eat more when we were heavier and as we loose we need to lower the calorie intake. When I said the morbidly obese get 1200 calories a day that's from a show where they actually live in a Clinic for the morbidly obese to help them loose their weight. I agree that's not much for them but they say it several times in each show. Everybody has different limits and you will find yours. Hope I didn't come across confrontational because I enjoy hearing from everybody.

So far today I've done 20 min on the eliptcal and 40 min w/ trainer working arms and legs. Going back to gym to do 20 on stairmaster tonight!

Everybody keep up the great work!!

3fcuser1058250 01-25-2008 05:56 PM

CatR 01-25-2008 09:54 PM

Today was a weight routine. Also followed my eating plan. The scales showed a 1.5 pound weight loss this morning. Sunday is my "official" weight day, so I will know then if this is water weight.

srmb60 01-26-2008 07:10 AM

Friday ... little longer walk and the dance-weight thing.

Tamsie 01-26-2008 12:20 PM

I weighed in at 139 this morning - that's down 3 lbs from last week and 10 total. :carrot: I was carrying a lot of water weight due to all the cysts I had though. Still.. it's soo nice to have all that bloatedness gone :)

I've been on plan for 2 weeks straight. I will be off plan tonight - it's date night for my husband and I - I think we're doing dinner and a movie. My daughter is at Universal studios & Islands of adventure this weekend with a friend.

Already got in 50 minutes walking my dogs this morning.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
