Planning and Chat for Aug 20-26
Good Morning all! Hope you all have a great week!
Dagmar  |
Never again
I was waiting for someone else to start this. Had to edit my first try and now we have two threads again. Darn! I will not try to start this particular thread ever again - I'm jinxed!
Dagmar :o |
heehee cute.
Well, I was bad last night...its okay though, it was planned. I went out for dinner with some girlfriends for a girls night. I did well with the actual dinner entree, of grilled salmon, a bit of rice, and seasonal veggies. BUT, I had dessert and a mochaccino (yummy!!!)...and the waiter treated us to glasses of champagne on the house. Its okay though...considering what I could have eaten, I didn't do to bad...back on track today, and I'm sure I can still lose this week :) |
I am off to a great start as I went to bed at a decent time last night which meant I was able to rise at 6 AM no problem. I w/i on Monday morning and I am holding at 154. Two weeks now at that weight, but I am glad because it is a new low for me in years and I have not been eating OP, so I am just glad I haven't gained.
I expect to stay OP today with the great start I've gotten. |
Ah the new thread looks just fine!
Morning everyone! I'm still within my target weight zone, inspite of summer parties. But I am faaar behind on my August walking goal. I should be able to take care of that while I'm on vacation. I see that my car has a pretty flat tire so ... no shopping today ;) |
Good morning, Dagmar, I was thinking you should write a letter to the editor about dog walkers' positive benefits to the community.
Hi steibena, hope your prediction is right and you lose some this week. Sounds like you should. Next Monday will be the charm, Carolyn. Having a good Monday is always a good sign. You and me both with the tire problems, Susan, and this is back-to-school shopping time. Interruption of plans is a big problem to overcome, isn't it? Last week I was interrupted for many hours at a time (to the point of almost a day once) by the needs of extended family, mostly medical. I couldn't be home much, got hungry while out, was under a lot of stress. No doubt the weight has crept up but I'm not weighing until things calm down. I'm really counting on some nice, ordinary days this week in which to get back to normal planning with my own refrigerator, my own kitchen, my own schedule, working out, and calm days. |
Good morning!
I'm thinking of going back home already this morning. Feeling a little dizzy, headachy and pukey. Ick. I don't want to be sick. Buddy update~he's doing better each day. The nystagmus seems to be gone (that's where his eyes keep darting around because he can't focus on anything due to the dizziness). His head tilt is not as pronounced. He still has a hard time getting on his feet and he walks like a drunk sailor. He is still refusing most foods (including plain chicken and steak). Thank goodness for satin balls (a concoction made from raw ground beef, egg, Total cereal, uncooked oats, wheat germ, oil and molasses). I'm not an advocate of raw feeding, but he's had small amounts of this and is keeping it down, so I won't complain. I just have to keep an eye on his water consumption--that is what seems to make him throw up. |
Good morning!
I'm recovering from my weekend trip to Keuka Lake. I had lots of wine and restaurant food. My friends and I had fun visiting wineries, going to a craft fair, and hanging out by the lake. Today I'm back OP and I'm definitely going to the gym after work! |
Allison, I hope you feel better. Maybe if you go home and lie down that will help.
It's good to hear that Buddy is doing better! |

Back to work today... Sucks to work for a living... Thank goodness it's only part-time... To the gym after work.... It's a gorgeous cool day I should go running... |
This morning my weight was 1.5 lbs above goal! :goodscale I can't believe how close I am (my evening weight is already at goal). When I weighed myself after exercising yesterday, I was only .5 above goal. Maybe by the end of August I really will be at goal.
More eggplant is on the menu for this week and I also have one off-plan meal. It's at a business conference, so I'm sure there will be lots of unhealthy food that I have to avoid in between meals in addition to trying to make healthy choices for lunch. Why does every business conference have to be a food orgy? I'm considering bringing my own snacks because I know they won't have anything healthy to eat for snacks. I skipped my run on Sunday and went to the gym instead (well, I did run to the gym, but it is only about a mile away). The prior week's run was miserable; I cramped badly amost the whole time (it's hard to run while holding your side but I'm getting good at it). Because I was cramping, my pace had to be slower, so my time was eight min behind my best time and my body just isn't used to the slower pace so my back and legs were killing me by the time I was done (and then sore all day). So I'm giving up on the running for a while. :( alinnell--I'm glad to hear that Buddy is doing a little better and I hope he continues to recover. I hope you aren't coming down with the stomach flu; that :censored:. SusanB--Bummer on the flat tire; I guess your car is just trying to help you get you closer to your walking goal ;). Dagmar--you did great with the thread. I'm sure the extra thread is just some cyberspace hiccup. Don't be discouraged; we've all found the right one. stiebena--It sounds like you did great on your dinner out. Clykk--Isn't it reassuring to know that you can add some calories to your diet and not gain weight? Sometimes I worry that I'll gain as soon as I add few calories, so a few off-plan days where I don't gain always come as a relief. Whittlin--I know what you mean. It's really hard to stay on plan when I can't control when, where, and what I eat. Hopefully this week will be quieter for you. GreenT--Sounds like your trip was a lot of fun. Ilene--I agree, this work thing really gets in the way of my life. |
Okay, feeling better now. That was weird--an hour of dizziness and sour stomach and headache. Anyway, a couple Advil and I'm good to go! I'm glad I'm not sick--tomorrow is my run day!
Barbara~sorry to hear you're having such running problems! Hopefully your soreness will not last long. |
I've been scratching my head all morning about supper. It's really quite cool today ... homemade, oven on type cool. Finally I decided ... walked to the grocer ... So I have a nice roast in the oven with onions and carrots and potatoes. Very soon it'll smell heavenly!
I did some nice upper body while watching What Not To Wear this afternoon. Man, I love that show! |
I am here! I actually did not cheat on my weight watchers last week and I lost 4 lbs! I looked at my old diet log and I have not gained any weight in a year (but I feel much larger!). I only ate out once and did well. I also attended two parties on Saturday and passed on cake and ice cream twice! I couldn't believe it.
How do you have time to work out? This really stresses me out. I used to work out daily. Now I have a 19-month old and an hour drive each way to work. By the time we get home, it is time for her dinner! I sometimes get on the treadmill beside her highchair while she is eating. I don't want to go to a gym with a daycare because she is in daycare all day! My husband works late-he usually is not home until she is in bed. I might try to find the energy tonight to get on the treadmill after she goes to bed! |

We had to put our 15 yr. old dog to sleep on Saturday :( (his name is Buddy too). He was just so old and could barely hear or see and then his hip broke. I think it broke just from being old. He didn't do anything to it that we can tell. Anyway, I guess it was time. We still have 2 dogs, a 5 yr. old black lab and a german short haired pointer puppy (which is what Buddy is). Not much going on with me. It's been pretty hot. Eating & exercise are good; still not losing any more weight. Susan, my neice told me I need smaller pants and I told her I'm very comfortable and she said that is what all the people on What Not To Wear say about their bad wardrobes! :D I like to watch that show called Clean House (or maybe Clean Sweep). I just stare in horrified fascination at these hosues that are incredibly messy (and dirty I'm sure). Ok, gotta run. Gotta get a few more hours sleep. Work at midnight tonight. Talk to you all later. Jane |
Ashleybeth -- It's not easy finding the time to workout with a hectic life and a baby... You're doing what you can at the moment, hang in there... Maybe a walk with baby in the stroller... I don't know how many times I have gone for a walk with the kids instead of doing house work, I'm not a neat freak at all
Speaking of no time for workouts, I didn't have time today either  ... Tomorrow I'll do better :D ... |
Good evening featherweights!
Not much to report today. I didn't make it to the gym as I had sort-of intended. I had meetings schedule in the late afternoon until 5:30, and 5:30 on the Monday preceding the start of school is one of the worst times of the year to go to a university gym. (Second only to the week before Spring Break, when the freshmen are desperately trying to burn off the Freshman Fifteen.) Tomorrow I'll go first thing in the morning, when the kiddies are still safely asleep in their dorms. Made a delicious recipe of "rattails" tonight for dinner. "Recipe" overstates things: it's just onion, garlic, a few mushrooms (the latter 3 sauteed in a touch of olive oil), fresh zucchini, diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, and salt & pepper to taste. (DH and I sprinkle it with red pepper flakes, too, but The Boy prefers it plain.) Jane -- sorry to hear about your Buddy. It's such a tough decision to have to make! Kim |
I had sushi tonight... :D
Mmmmmmmm....my favorite! |
ashleybeth01--Could you work out on the weekends? Maybe those days might be a little less hectic without the 2-hour commute to work.
greatchoice-- sorry to hear about your dog. ValentineNicole--I love sushi! :cloud9: And, as a bonus, it's one of the few restaurant foods that can fit into my calorie restrictions. |
Great choice... SOOO sorry to hear about your dog. No matter how old, he is a member of your family, and I know how heart broken you must be.
Sushi - yum! I haven't had it in awhile, but I sure do love it too. Umm... We had a dinner party for 10 tonight - pretty healthy menu, but I did not have time to exercise. I better get going if I am going to take the 5 lb race seriously ('the race' thread). Barbara - you have been doing awesome! You must be feeling pretty tiny these days! Keep it up and you'll be at goal in a week or so! Kim - why is that recipe called 'rattails'?? It sounds good, but I don't get the name... I'm curious! Susan, I love What Not to Wear too, but I definitely haven't perfected shopping for myself (I get the concepts, I'm just not good at it). I'm still trying... Ok, gotta get moving toward bed. Back to work this week (teacher workdays), so I'm adjusting and MUST start going to bed earlier. |
Claire: "rattails" is a family name for ratatouille, which I can occasionally spell but rarely pronounce correctly. (Real ratatouille is usually baked, but who wants to turn on the oven for a dish made with veggies that are in season at the peak of the summer heat?)
|
greatchoice Sorry to hear about your dog . It's such a hard decision to make but you know when the final time comes. My dog just told me (at almost 16) with her eyes and body language that she really didn't want to be here anymore.
Buddy had 15 great years with you. I'm sure he was very happy for most of that time. And you have two others who will also live long happy lives with you. Dagmar |
Darn fat fairy
Do most of you know when you've put on a pound or two of "real" weight? Not just bloat, or overindulgence but real fat. I'm back up to over 136 and I think it might be weight that I never lost in the first place.
I think I've been really dehydrating myself :o with caffeine (diet Pepsi) and I never really got down to 135. I'm losing so slowly (which is good I know) that I can't tell from measurements or clothes fitting. Hard to say but I'm going to (wince, whine) put 136 on the ticker and start really drinking the two bottles of water I promise myself I'll have every day. Dagmar (not so skinny this week) ;) |
Good Morning All!
I don't really have much to report this morning...I'm still writing my big mid-year report for my thesis, so my life is not to exciting this week :) Oh well, come friday, I'm going to hand it in, leave work at lunch time and head to the cottage for a week!!!! GreatChoice - I'm so sorry to hear about Buddy. Letting go of a cherished friend is really hard :( Celebrate his long life with you, he will always live on in your heart. Dagmar - Usually I can't tell if I've put on real weight unless it sticks with me for a few weeks :) Anyways, don't dispair...just keep on track, and you'll be back down to 135 before you know it! |
Week 6 wrap-up and weigh-in
Good morning again! Today marks the start of week 7 for me. I wasn't expecting too much movement of the scale at this morning's weigh-in because its my TOM.
I was pretty much right: my weight's been stable the last few days. But, it's been stable at 140! Yipee! So, I get to make it official on my ticker. And if it's on my ticker, it has to stick, right? ;) Pretty please right? My 6-week average for food intake are as follows:
These are pretty close to target, which was 1400 calories, at least 100 g. protein per day, a 33/33/33 split on F/P/C, and no refined carbs. I've obviously been a bit light on calories, but I haven't been hungry and I've kept losing. Nevertheless, I could certainly experiment with adding a tablespoon of EFAs, which would boost calories by about 120/day and put some additional "good" fats into the mix. I must say, though, for someone who started cooking daily at the peak of the 1990s fat-free fad, it's hard to intentionally add a tablespoon of fat to my diet! Anyone out there supplement with EFAs or have the same issue? Onward ho. Kim |
Good Morning!
I think today I'm going to skim the book Super Foods and head to a nice big grocery store. The fridge is just about empty so it's a good time to reevaluate and tidy up our diet. I didn't skip a workout yesterday (not really) I just made several short dashes up town for things. Rainy, windy, cool ... drat. Claire? are you in on the Shopping threads? It's interesting to hear what others are finding and buying. |
Jane~I'm so sorry to hear about your Buddy. We had to do the same thing with our dog 2 years ago--she was 15 1/2. She had had a long happy life (albeit with many meds due to thyroid and allergy problems). It was just devastating to us--we'd had her since before we had kids. I wish you and your family the best during this difficult time.
Kim~your 6 week average is similar to my 4 week average, although you're higher in protein and I'm higher in carbs. I'm going to try and reverse that a little. I'd also like to keep the fat down to 20% rather than 30%. The last time I lost a lot of weight, it was by calorie counting and keeping the fat to a minimum. I agree, it's hard to intentionally add fat. I've tried my best to remain low fat since that time (11 years ago!). Dagmar~step away from the diet Pepsi!!! Drink more water!!!! Okay, what's up with this? I'm down to 144 this morning (good news) but my pants are tight? Could it be water retention due to TOM? Could it mean that I'll lose some more? Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!! Oh, bought cookies for myself yesterday and I haven't opened the package yet! Isn't that great?!?! Last week, I had to buy cookies for DS and magically the whole package disappeared while he was away at surf camp. I didn't eat a single one! Now I wonder who the culprit is? |
Thanks for the suggestions...I used to not workout on the weekends, but now I am going to. At this point, I think it is my only option. Mornings are a big no because I am already leaving the house at 6:15 am!
|
Sorry I haven't read the post yet but gotta vent I hven't had an appetite for 4 days or so.
I am applyng for school ,trying to go back to work ( a friend is helping me with a resume) an dgoign thru a seperation all this came about in the same week!!!! I am gonna have a break down I am sooooooooooooo stressed . OK now that is off my chest. I will go back and read the rest of the post |
sorry everyone i just can;t concentrate to read maybe I will get to it later
|
Allison -- Stay away from the cookies :nono:
Jen -- Hang in there, it WILL get better  Dagmar -- I drink pure concentrated cranberry water... Knudsen makes one and I mix 1/4c in 4 cups of water in my bottle. When I drink this mixture I feel totally flushed! I prefer it to plain water now it's very refreshing although the tartness takes some getting used to... Kaw -- Nice stats, keep it up :bravo: I'm at work and sneaking in some time on the computer because my partner is gone to lunch  ... I'm caught up in my work though so it's a good thing... I finish at 1PM and I will go to the gym afterwards  ... Later all  |
Just want to say Hi to everyone...
I just found this site yesterday and am very happy! I'm on day 2 of my new approach to food and health! So far, so good! Best part is, I am prepared to continue and move forward, even if I do have slip-ups! |
Hey JenniJo :welcome:
|
ALC due to DH
:welcome3: JennieJo. We're a fun bunch :woohoo:
I think I can single-handedly keep the Men ARRRGGHHH! thread going. I just ALC because I'm waiting for my DH (dense husband) to come home and resume the screaming hissy fit he had going when I slammed the door in his face this morning. He's all upset because I use "his" room for 10 minutes every morning for part of my exercise routine and I don't want him to be sitting there with all the lights on while I do this. This formerly rational 45 year old man has turned into a sulking, whining big fat baby over the last year. I've been giving him the last 3 years to get on with and over his mid-life crisis (he gave me 1 year) but I'm getting pretty fed up ( ;) and I'm over-feeding myself to cope with his crankiness). Thanks! I feel much better now and will not head to the store and further damage my diet. Dagmar :rollpin: :frypan: :club: |
Thanks for the welcome! I'm pretty good w/ acronyms, but... ALC...? Ate Lottsa Carbs? Angered Linda Carter?
|
heehee...Ate Like Crap :) Its something we conjured up to mean we were off plan.
Dagmar - I'm doing terribly in the food department today as well. I thought I had my binging under control, but man. I guess I have been worse in the past, but I just ate so much crap. Ugh. I'm stressed out about my report, and bored, and all of that contribute to my eating. Good luck with DH...men can be such dumb***es sometimes. |
Yesterday I had a good day. I was OP with my calories, I went grocery shopping and bought lots of fresh fruit, and I used the elliptical at the gym.
Today, however....:(.....we had a picnic at work. I knew about this picnic for weeks, and I had been mentally preparing for it....or so I thought. I ate a barbecued chicken sandwich, a barbecued pulled pork sandwich, one corn on the cob and one scoop of pasta. Then after everyone finished eating I kept thinking about the extra rolls that were just sitting there. They were my favorite rolls from my favorite bakery.  I had 2 more - not sandwiches this time, just the rolls. :T So that was 4 rolls total, and this was white bread. A local ice cream company was catering the picnic. I had 2 bowls of ice cream. :( And I did not resist the toppings. Then as soon as I got home I ate more food, read an informative article about appetite control, and then ate even more. Today was definitely a day where I ate due to my appetite, not due to being hungry. At least I didn't drink any of the pop at the picnic. :dizzy: :drill:Time to get back OP! Especially after all the restaurant food and wine I had over the weekend. Tomorrow I'll be eating more food served at work - lunch at a Nutrition and Weight Management seminar. I'm sure that will be a lot different than today's lunch choices! The company I work for is offering free nutrition seminars to employees. I'm looking forward to this one. Barbara - Congratulations on being so close to your goal! ashleybeth01 - It sounds like you're doing great with WW! And you passed on cake and ice cream not once, but twice! Great job! Jane - I'm sorry about your dog. I was wrestling with the decision to put my dog to sleep a few years ago, but he passed away at home. Kim - I was taking EFA supplements for a while, in capsule form. I didn't ake them long enough to see or feel a difference, though. Hi Jenni4jo! :welcome2: |
GreenT - Have fun at the Health seminar...
I was also wondering about ALC  Foodwise it's been a good day, I worked out too but it wasn't the greatest workout... I'll do better tomorrow... |
