Featherweights Planning & Chat for May 28 - June 2
Good Morning! A new week! A brand new server! What's happening along your path to slender fitness this week?
|
Good morning, Susan and a Meaningful U.S. Memorial Day Observance to all who commemorate it.
ennay, that is too funny a lactation story~! Barbara, ummm... ... fava bean production sounds like work! I would be too lazy to give space over to them again! Good for you on a productive garden, though. Well, for me, it's 25 pounds down! 145 says the scale, so I am a happy camper. Oh, how I love my workout videos today, love my God-made foods today, even love the powdered SlimFast, the tape measure, and those celery sticks (well, as much as anyone can), and am a mellow gal. :cloud9: All is right with the world. Looks like my waist-to-hip ratio is down again from last month, too, (somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 inch off waist since end of April) so slowly decreasing the workout time to maintenance is actually working without regain. Like Susan's "slender fitness" phrase. That's a nice imagery, isn't it? The new fruits are filling our produce sections here - the cherries have arrived here, absolutely luscious honeydews and cantalopes, and the kiwis, yum. Read that kiwis are very low-glycemic, have become the "in" fruit, did not know that. Is it just me, or did the strawberry crop double this year? Now to get blueberries down to strawberry prices. An easy time of year to get in the veggies, fruits. Hope everyone has a great week. |
Morning Whittlin .... at my height ... tall and willowy is out of the question, but slender fitness I can do ;)
There are some numbers that just have a ring of success about them and "I lost 25 lbs" is one of them. Congratulations! That is an applaudable success. Oh I wish you could buy blueberries for strawberry prices! That'd be wonderful! |
well I haven't posted in these threads in a bit. I am down another pound I was at 133 for 3 days and it is TOM. I am plesently surprised I hope this means good news next week also. I have giving up calorie counting and trying it on my own , this is scary but so far so good. I hope to be transition to maintenence soon I am still 6 pounds off I thonk so i think now is a good time to start to see if I can do it.
whittlin congrats on 25 pounds lost:cheers: heres to them staying lost :p |
:woohoo: Whitllin :bravo: on the 25 down!!!
I had a weird weekend ... I was hit by a speeding teenager in a rush to get to a party ... No one was hurt, it could have been much MUCH worse.... This happened on Friday night so Saturday I was in a bit of a daze, Sunday was better but I was still not myself... Today, I'm ok :D ... The stress of the accident actually stopped me from eating... This is the very first time this happens... So I was down a pound this morning :D .... Other than that, it's SOSO... After this weekend SOSO is a good thang! |
Hi there, ladies. Am I a featherweight?? I still would like to lose about 11 pounds or so. I can't wait to do it! If I can just lose 1 pound this week I will be psyched!
|
Congratulations to all you "Big Losers" out there :cheer2:
Five days off work, and I'm worn out :faint: Went to the race track a couple of times, didn't feel to well a couple of days. Cleaned my house from top to bottom and I'm just being lazy today :p My eating has been hit and miss all weekend long. Eat a good meal, eat a bad meal, eat a good meal, eat a bad . . .well you know. Well one more bad meal tonight as we are eating at our friends and she is cooking Italian. I love Italian :o Tomorrow I really have to get back on track. A new month is coming up and I need a fresh start. This month was pretty much of a wash. I didn't really gain but I didn't really lose either :frypan: Here's hoping we all have a great month of June! |
Good afternoon featherweights!!!
Saturday was hectic but it all turned out beautiful! I am actually very proud of myself. I really hate speaking in front of crowds, but for some reason, it didn't phase me this time! Last year I got this weird sing-song way of speaking when I read my script, but this year, I did a bit more ad libbing and it really was better. I wasn't nearly as nervous! Everyone commented on how much better I did. Check out my profile picture--it's DS and DD at the dinner that night. DS was so proud to wear a suit! DD got her hair and makeup done professionally for the evening. She looked very nice on stage when it was her turn in the fashion show. Yesterday we went to see Pirates of the Caribbean #3. Good, but not nearly as good as #'s 1 and 2. Today I did my shopping and errands and cleaned my desk at home. It's needed a good cleaning for months!! I guess I really hate filing and putting things away and since I have a cabinet where I can close it all up, I just let the mess accumulate!!! It looks so much better. DH is "twiddling" today. He's gone around the house and tightened things that are loose, changed lightbulbs, put new weather stripping in where needed. Everyone have a wonderful week! |
ARRRGGGHH!!! and I mean it !
The next two weeks will be crazy time for me due to my municipal government's interference in the way I try to do my job. I will try to follow the posts but I don't think I'll be on the board much. My path to slender fitness is going to be meandering to say the least. I will also have to wimp out of the swimsuit challenge, which I initiated :o :o
:bravo: Whittlin. Amazing! Have a terrific week everyone else! Kick those lbs. fat little *sses! The distincly uncool (this week) Dagmar |
So somehow yesterday I managed to drop another 2 lbs, putting me at my goal weight this morning. I'm sure the scale will go back up and I'd really like my evening weight to be at my goal, but it was still great to see that number on the scale! :goodscale
OMG, whittlin, the favas are a ton of work. First you have to get the beans out of their pods, then you have to boil them all, rinse them in cold water, and pop the inner beans out of their shells. I think it took me well over an hour to get them all shelled last night. :faint: And we ended up with 4 cups of fava beans! So, SusanB, I guess my path to slender fitness this week is going to include a lot of fava beans (hmmm, I need a dancing fava bean smilie). They are also a problem to use because one cup of favas is close to 200 calories. We plant a lot of favas over the winter because if you cut them down before they fruit, they add nitrogren back to the soil, which is really good for whatever you plant there in the summer. So most of the favas we plant never end up fruiting, but somehow my SO convinced me to let an entire row fruit. We are definitely not doing that next year! Half a row at the absolute most! Congrats on the 25 lbs lost, whittlin! :broc: :bunny2: alinnell - I'm glad to hear your event went well! Your daughter and son both look gorgeous! How exciting for both of them. Ilene - sorry to hear about your accident but I'm glad no one was hurt. Thank God for seat belts and air bags. I hope your car survived with as minimal damage. |
Hey everyone!
Whittlin CONGRATULATIONS on your 25lbs GONE!!! WOOT WOOT!!! My weekend went pretty well. I worked, saw a couple movies (Shrek the 3rd and Pirates of the Caribean 3). However, this past month has been very un-progressive. So I'm trying to get motivated. This week I'm starting a detox. And also taking official measurements and a weigh in on June first. This will be the first time I'll have weighed in since January!!!! I'm scared. I hope it's all good though. :D Anyway, talk to yah all later. |
Ilene Glad all is OK with the accident, hopefully the car suffered no serious damages either.
Tracy Yep, you're in the right place - :welcome3: and look forward to seeing more of your posts here. Whittline Congrats on your 25 pounds down, wow - we're around the same place, let's keep it up over the summer. Allison, agreed that POTC 3 isn't as good as 1 (I haven't watched 2, but can guess the events given what goes on in 3), but it wasn't bad, nonetheless. Mudpie, hopefully your next two weeks won't be too icky, and I'm sure that even though you may have less time to focus on eating well & exercising that you'll make the most healthful choices possible - heck, even a mini-maintenance would be great during this period and remind yourself that you're only 11 pounds away from GOAL!!! :D ~~~~ This weekend has gone well more or less, my high school friend from the AirForce is taking a vacation from duty (going on a one-year tour to Korea in mid-June) so I've been out and about quite a bit. We had Korean BBQ on Friday night and Japanese BBQ today for lunch, and I cooked her a healthy dinner Satuday night (Salmon cakes, brussel sprouts with pancetta, orzo pasta - with lemon sorbet & strawberries for dessert). Even with all the eating I've been staying on plan (budgeting lighter eats for my other meals/snacks) so I'm glad, my only wicked indulgence being a chocolate-dipped canoli at a bakery. Oh yea, we've also been exercising together (did a 10K yesterday, a 50-minute interval & circuit training today) and it definitely felt good that I'm keeping up and holding my own against someone from the military, though she is just recently fully recovered from tendonitis and so has been taking it easy with the cardio the last month. Also had a burst of energy today, so I got in an extra 4-mile run on top of my hour long workout. :broc: Felt good, though I did tired out later in the day and took a 2-hour long siesta :D And of course, looking forward to the 4-day work week, even though I'll be working some weekend events. |
hey all, I think I am back for a while. It was a nice break but time to start counting again.
|
Morning!
My strides toward slender fitness were around a coupla blocks this morning. I'm off to work, have a good day! |
Hi all! I'm back from a fun weekend. We went to a car show near Valdosta, GA and then to Jekyll Island to the beach. I had wanted to go to JI for awhile. it was very pretty. Lots of exercise with walking and biking also...so so on the eating part, calories probably evened out. Unfortunately, i am at a new personal high weight of 155.4 (I have no idea how this is happening!). :( My previous high weight was 154. I'm trying not to let it get me down though.:( :(
Ilene: I'm glad you're okay! That had to be scarey. My daughter gets her temps in a few months.....maybe they should raise the legal driving age to 18 :D or 25! :D |
Waaah..... scale was 2 pounds up this morning. I'm sure it has something to do with the two helpings of pot roast and mashed potatoes and gravy last night. But I vow to be on track today and get back down by Saturday... my weigh in!
|
Morning - mon cal 2132/(2100-2200)
pm workout today. was considering hitting the gym too but kids have been a pita. |
michelinwoman, first just please forgive me for having zero memory, but could you remind, have you been doing some specific plan like WW, or have you been calorie counting particularly, etc? And has there been a specific exercise plan I missed like the gym or a walking plan? I know you said there was a lot of activity on your trip like bike riding. (Building muscle even in fun ways will cause the scale to go up in a good way.) Just thinking we can encourage you as you scoot away from that personal high.
((Ilene)) thank goodness it was only a glitch in your plans and nothing that hurt you. Thanks so much for the kind mentions. Yep definitely a "keeper" number, AquaWarlock (until I can go even lower - you don't need to). I first started losing in August, so 9 months on the way down and so this is a non-temporary mindset and I'm surely not going to let any of this progress get away, canadian mom, that's right! I am gradually getting into maintenance mode, though, moving from 3 hours to 2 hours of workouts per week, but see that AquaWarlock has a different idea! My youngest insisted on staring at Barbara's post to me - waiting to see WHEN the bunny was going to eat the carrot. Hi, Cats Tongue - get those measurements recorded and start changing them! Hi, Tracy - could just be temp water weight if meal was salty? Gravies can do that, yep they can! Not uncool, Dagmar - although remember that we are a nice diversion, and exercise relieves stress! I got in a 35-minute floor workout yesterday. |
Good morning everyone!!!
Wow, warlock, that's a lot of running!!! Good for you. Dagmar, try to keep the stress level down while dealing with the government. I hope everything works out for you. Treighsie, just be careful for the next day or two and those pounds will disappear! Probably just water anyway, right? ennay, sorry that the kids are pita. Barbara~congrats on the 2 pounds. It's probably from all that work with the fava beans!!! Oops, gotta run. Work calls..... Have a great day EVERYONE! |
Well, as I suspected the miracle surprise 2 lbs are back again today, but the momentary loss gives me encouragement that they'll be back off again soon.
Tracy - 2 lbs is 7,000 calories (just like it takes a deficit of 3,500 calories to lose 1 lb, it takes an overage of 3,500 calories to gain a lb). To have gained two lbs from the pot roast, et. al., your 2 servings would have had to have been 7,000 calories. So it's doubtful it's really the pot roast. Also, I don't think weight from over-indulging shows up quite that quickly--it usually takes several days to a week for it to show up on me. But when I eat off plan, I often show a gain of water weight very quickly. So my guess is the 2 lbs is just water and most of it will be back off in a couple of days. Oh, and welcome to the forum, BTW. Whittlin - Too funny about your daughter. I hope she wasn't too disappointed about when bunny never ate the carrot. How long did she wait? |
Whittlin - well done, that's really great. I'm going to try hard to join you sometime this year :D
Warlock - I was about to post on your thread in mini goals when I got distracted so well done to you too. Ilene - I am so sorry about your accident. It must have been scary, putting aside the damage. My plan for this week is to just get on with it. Obstacles were thrown up in my path last week and, true to Doughnut form, I fell at each and every one of them and as a result am up nearly 2 lbs. I went to work last Monday at 8:30am and three hours ish later I was on a train to stay for a week in a hotel. A colleague who was supposed to be going on a training course rang in sick and I was the lucky(?) mug who got sent instead. Well, that was last week and I ate and ate and ate. This is this week and 6 weeks till my beach holiday. If I'm going to be under 140 I'd better consign last week very firmly to the past, where it belongs. I may as well start by being honest. I've changed my ticker back and will own up to the fact that this is my first on plan day in 9 days but I WILL make it. Wishing you all a good week and much :dust: |
Paddling away the pounds
Well not really, but we're going out tonite with the kayaks and eating dinner on a small beach at Toronto Island. The government business can wait til tomorrow - too beautiful an evening to spend putting up flyers!
Dagmar  |
Dagmar, that sounds like some awesome kayaking! Enjoy it!
Doughnut - your post reminds me of where I am right now with all of this. I will keep an eye on you if you'll keep an eye on me. I've had lots of obstacles too, but really my head has just not been in the right place with counting calories and exercising enough. I, too, am trying to get back into my groove. I know you want to look and feel good when you put that swim suit on at the beach! Well, I went to Pennsylvania for a family reunion over the weekend- I didn't do too terribly with eating, although I indulged a little and didn't count (too hard to count when gone for 3 days). DH passed a Chipotle on the way home - I've been wanting to try it for a long time, but we don't have one near us. DH had been to one before when he was out of town with friends. They have the BEST burritos... do any of you have a Chipotle nearby? I didn't bother to look up the calorie count, since it was a one time thing (sure it was high because this was a big burrito!). Anyway, today I'm back on track, and in fact, gearing up to go for a good walk. Hope everyone is having a good day! |
Oh my darlings! I am sooo whipped.
I couldn't sleep any longer so I got up at 5 and went for a walk/jog ... had a busy day at work and then couldn't say no when my friend asked me to walk this evening. I should sleep! In fact, I think I'll take my book and go to bed in just a minute here. |
Hi everyone, well I'm back at the pool where I love to be actually. Nothing is as good as swimming to make me feel so good afterwards. I think I am addicted to the smell of chlorine...now is that weird or what!
Also I played my first golf game tonight and I did really pretty well considering I haven't held a golf club since last August. 2 of my kids went with me and we had dinner afterwards (salad for me and poutine and hamburger for them!) I stole a couple of fries just to taste them, but didn't overdo it. So, in the exercise area things are going well. |
Good Morning!
There's about ten days per summer that I wish we had a pool. I don't swim, can't ... but the relief from the heat is fabulous! Nice cool way to stay in shape. All that exercise got the best of me yesterday. I was starving! I got back up and had some nuts and things. Bumped me up over 2000 cals. I should have just gone to sleep but "House" was good. |
I was good yesterday although I skipped breakfast. Had slimfast for lunch, "snacked" on a bowl of potato soup at mom's and had a very small greek salad for dinner (and no sweetened drinks). Now, if I could just eat like that every day, I'd be back to a good weight. I took my waist measurement the other day and it was 136 (yikes). I always have a big waist. Even when I was 20 and had absolutely no fat on me (weighed like 115) I had a 27" waist. I'd love to get my waist down to 30" and say bye bye to back fat. It has been in the upper 80's here and makes it hard to walk outdoors. I'm thinking of getting rid of my stationary bike and getting a treadmill again. I originally sold my treadmill because I wanted to burn more calories in the same amount of time on a bike (and running is out of the question). I did great on the bike for awhile, but then started having knee problems from it. Now, every time I try it out I limp around for a few weeks...so I give up. I guess walking is the only thing I can do that doesn't cause permanent injury. Has anyone tried a treadclimber?
whittlin: I have been counting calories (using fitday off and on). I have been walking 3x/wk about 2 1/2 miles and occasional yoga. I noticed you have SE US listed as your location...you know how we love our food in the south...that is probably the problem! I started slimfast again. It seems to be the only thing that gets weight off fast...basically a starvation plan though.Your progress has been great....I'm jealous. mudpie: I was thinking about getting a kayak. There are a lot of boaters on the lake near me. Is that a problem when on a kayak...does the wake tip you over? |
I got up at the forsaken hour of 3:30 a.m. today -- have an emergency drill at work @ 5a.m. that I HAVE to participate in. So I got up, had a muffin, did my abs & upper body workout and rolled into work.
Yesterday isn't good for me either calorie-wise, over 2000. Plan to do better this week. |
anyone else having problems with the "quick post"?
yesterday - 2099/(2000-2100) squeak squeak but the scale moved! 4 kids in the house this morning instead of 2 so no time to read, have a great day all! |
ennay -- no problems here, but if it continues let me know or let Suzanne know about it...
Getting ready to go to work, just back from the gym :strong: ... Later  |
Hey all! Missed out on coming here yesterday so I thought I'd have billions of posts to read, but it didn't take me long at all.
Ennay- I don't really use quick post, so no problems here. Hope it starts working for you. Aquawarlock - 3:30am is a horrible wake up time. Yuck. I have trouble getting up at quarter to seven. hahaha Michelinwoman - I know that when it gets hot here (30 degrees or higher celcious) I have to get up early to exercise, it's impossible to even walk outside after like 9am.... Fortunately it's not quite there yet. And I'm like you too, a thicker waist: I've always carried all my extra weight there. My goal is to get under 30 inches. Whitlin - Tomorrow's my measurement day! I'm excited to get them all (a little scared too). I just started TOM so my weight will probably be a little high... still it'll be good to have some motivation. I'm about to be off to the gym for a core class, looking forward to it. Plus I'm biking there and back, which is all downhill there and all uphill back, so it'll be good long workout. :D Good luck with all your goals today Featherweights. |
doughnut, you'll definitely get there!
michelinwoman, if you check out the real plan on their website, it is not starvation at all like it used to be back when they first started but pretty good calorie counts by individual's weights, lots of vegetables, fruits. I probably add the powder to a fruit smoothie once a day, on average, and don't begrudge it, since the rest of my diet is mostly God-made foods. Their plan was judged second-best mainstream weightloss plan by Consumer Reports, with Weight Watchers coming in first. Good job on the walking and yoga. We're also blessed with a lot of produce coming into season now in the SE, so maybe you can substitute with good 'ol 'mater sammiches and (olive-oil-) fried squash! Subject of knee problems - The video workouts I do are physical therapy based (but kick your rear, believe me) and lots of folks with knee problems do them. And it's cooler in the house! ;) They're by Teresa Tapp. There's a website for them and Dr. Perricone recommends them in his new book. Oh, Oh! 'mater sammiches remind me - Recommendation Sara Lee "100% Whole Wheat Soft and Smooth" sandwich bread, 70 calories per slice. This has just appeared in our area within the last few weeks (I know different areas have items distributed at different times - ?). My children like the texture as much as their favorite (very white-flour) ones and don't complain about sandwiches with "Mom's whole-grain stuff" any more. Little one does not even pull off the crust. This is perfect timing for my household for hot-weather-out-of-school sandwich-season. |
I'm meeting a couple of friends for pedicures and dinner tonight. My toes are looking pretty shabby and the weather is warming up (sandals time!) so I've been counting the days since we set it up last week.
Aquawarlock - 3:30 AM? Yuck! Getting up that early throws me off for the whole day. I can never figure out how much to eat when I'm awake for that many extra hours. Michelinwoman - exercising when it's hot is no fun. If it's really hot here (which is actually not that hot compared to the rest of the country and only happens for about two weeks out of the summer), I sometimes get up early, wait until evening when it's cooled off a bit, or go swimming. You can't beat swimming for exercise in hot weather and it would be way easier on your knees. Or if you don't swim, you could run (or walk fast) in the pool. That is still great exercise and way easier on your knees. I have used a treadclimber (that is the combination stairs and treadmill, right?) at my gym. I use it for 15 minutes about once a week (I try to use incorporate several different machines into my cardio). It does kick my butt. I don't have knee problems so I can't say how it would be for your knees. Mater Sammiches: Fried squash, even with olive oil, is never going to fit into my calorie plan, but I definitely love tomato sandwiches (even if I do pronouce them differently, being from the north and all). There's nothing like a tomato fresh-picked from the garden and warmed by the sun. I also love love love tomato pie , but it's a little hard to work into my calories. |
Okay, well, the scale went back down 1.5 today, so I am hopign you all are right and it was just water weight. Of course I've been good today so far so I'm hoping it will keep going down!
|
walking2lose - more than happy to keep an eye on you. Our stats are similar albeit that I'd prefer yours!
Whenever I feel like this, prepared to think about doing it but not really feeling like it, I think about something 2Fru once said. Where is she by the way? It went along the lines of sometimes you have to do it even when you're not feeling it. I'm definitely not feeling it, not at all, but I have been doing it. I'm hoping that'll make me feel like it before too long. So, crappy day at work with two more scheduled crappy days to go but it's nearly teatime and I'm still on plan. That's the main thing. |
not even 11AM yet here and I'm already lethargic -- good on my calories so far ~450; will be eating a light lunch today (LeanCuisine plus some extra greens) and going out to Applebees with mom for dinner before or after our movie (thank goodness for their WW menu, not necessarily the most delicious healthy eats around but at least it's not yet another number I have to guesstimate.)
I think I'll be taking a nap in my car during my lunch hour too -- given how quick it takes to prepare & eat a LC. Hope I get to leave work early today and, more importantly, have the energy for my 30 min. of exercise today (kickboxing & abs) |
:tired: this working for a living just blows!
I've left part of supper up to the 'boys' and I'm going to stretch out for a few minutes. Is it hot anywhere else? Whew! |
It's been cooking here the last few days, Susan. And I agree with the work comment :faint:
It's been 90 degrees here the last few days and every time I get in my car (for lunch or after work) it is baking hot :o I've been doing pretty good the last couple of days on my calories. I usually weigh every day but I'm going to wait until my official weigh day (Friday) since I had a really, really bad 5 day weekend  Hope everyone had a great day and staying cool (literally). |
Hi all,
Doughnut - I love that quote from 2Fru and yes, I hope I feel that spark again soon. Since I'm not as motivated as I would like to be lately, I'm glad I have a exercise buddy who sometimes feels 'up' when I'm 'down'... and vice versa. Today she forced me on a vigorous 1 hour 10 minute speed walk. I had to jog a little to keep up with her, which was good because I needed it! The weather here was beautiful, and we got to have a good chat and catch up on things. So, of course, I'm glad we went I think a big part of my problem lately is that I've been very busy and overwhelmed with lots of things -- finishing the last couple weeks of school (piles of grading to do, exams to write, classes to teach) and balancing lots of personal stuff now too. I tend to get myself exhausted when I have TOO much going on (I don't sleep well when I'm stressed... arghh... hate that!!), and the fatigue fuels my lack of motivation... and the vicious cycle of being too tired to exercise, too busy to pack lunch, etc. begins! Aqua - you might be feeling my pain, getting up at 3:30 today! Anyway, the good news is that I'm aware of my pattern and trying to break out of it. I decide how I want my life to be... right? So, today was a good day exercise wise and a so-so day food wise. I'm looking at just maintaining this week. |
hot here too, which is rare especially this time of year
