Smile New and Wanting to get PSYCHED for FS!

Hi Everyone,

This is the umpteenth diet I've tried. Well, I haven't tried it yet - I'm going to wait until after Christmas to start - but I bought the book and read it and it looks like a plan I can stick with. I just reached my all-time high weight of 400 lbs and it's killing me. My knee is bad, I have diabetes, and I just feel like I'm dragging my body around. My boyfriend has gained about 30 lbs in 8 months and wants to go on the plan with me.

My question for the group is, since there isn't an acceptable food list in Phase I, can you eat starchier vegetables like corn and sweet potatoes? I know you can't eat white potatoes, but was curious about corn and sweet potatoes. And does anyone know of an acceptable butter substitute?

I need all the help and support I can get. I really don't want to consider gastric bypass, but at this morbidly obese weight, I have to do something if I want to live another 5 years. I'm looking for a good support system and hope I have found it here.

All the best to you and yours this holiday season,
jazzytina

Hi,

Let me tell you my interpretation. I didn't think we could ahve ANY kind of potato, whether they are white or sweet, however everyone here ate them and seemed to do ok so I allowed myself 1 serving per week of the sweet potato fries (see recipes thread). I also ate corn but again because it is a starch, i allowed myself 3 servings a week (not unlimited). I think I allowed myself a cup each time and I still lost. I use I Can't Believe Its Not Butter but make sure it is the spray kind and don't go overboard with it. I just use a few sprays on my steamed broccoli, cabbage or squash. I also track my calories because it has taught me how to eat. Even when I went off FS and stayed in my calorie range for the day, I didn't gain. I think its a great plans and exercising daily and drinking TONS of water also helps a lot once you get used to it. I used to drink maybe 2 glasses of water per week and now I am in the 80-100 oz per day range so that in itself has helped me.

We will be here to support you the best that we can. I think it is good you are waiting until after Xmas. The holidays are a tough time for everyone trying to stick to a diet. Plus I don't like explaining to all my family about my diet and what its all about

Good luck to you. Lem
