3 days in and STARVING

  • OH MY GOODNESS....

Im so hungry and iv been eating all day..... i just had some yogurt and now i want to eat again.... any suggestions ? can i eat too many fruits and veggies? im also trying to watch my portion control..
  • Fruits and veggies are unlimited, you can have as much as you want.
I'm also on my 3rd day, I'm a bit hungry but not starving.

I found that tofu is great for keeping me feeling full. A serving of Tofu will hold me over for at least 4 hours. (Including all the stuff you cook with the tofu... you don't really want to have tofu plan.. blah!)

Sometimes chewing gum helps my hunger, but not always.
Also, Are you drinking enough water? sometimes your body tells you it is hungry, when really you are thirsty.
  • Hello fellow Californian!

I am also on day 3, and I do feel hungrier today than I did in either day 1 or 2. Do you mind sharing what you've eaten today, at what times and in what quantities? Maybe we can figure out something that will fill you up.

The book does say unlimited fruits and veggies, so those are the best options to reach for when getting a snack.
  • When I feel hungry I always drink a bottle of water, wait a few and see if that filled me up. I have found if I cut a sweet potato and eat it raw (they are sweet) that is something "heavy" for me. I agree that maybe if you posted what you are eating we might be able to help. It DOES get easier and there is a 3 day "hump" that some people have. Good Luck to you and keep drinking that water, it really does help with the cravings.

  • I'd also like to see your menu, if you don't mind The one thing I've heard most from smashers is that they never get hungry on this diet. You've mentioned fruits, veggies, and yogurt, but are you eating the rice? You should eat two cups of cooked brown rice, and you'll stay stuffed. Don't eat it all at once, spread it out between your meals and snacks. The brown rice is very important because it provides protein, fiber, various nutrients, and keeps you full and energized.
  • I'm starting day 6 today and I have to say I have not been hungry at all. It's amazing. I have been eating steel cut oatmeal in the morning w/ one apple cut up in it and then in the microwave to make the apple soft, sprinkle w/ some apple pie spice - it keeps me full until around 2:00. This morning I had egg whites, black beans and homemade salsa just to change things up. Another thing I find important is eating the brown rice. I weighed myself this morning and I'm down 5 pounds. I love this plan! If you are hungry, maybe try eating the oatmeal and apple in the morning. It really is amazing how it fills you up and doesn't give me cravings.
  • I also have not been hungry at all and I say to certainly add beans (navy, kidney, black - there are many different ways to prepare them, even in soups). Also add some brown rice. You can eat up to 2 cups daily. I'm not a tofu fan but I did use it in a soup & it also fills you up. Sweet potatoes are very fililng & you can microwave them whole just like a regular potato. They can also be added to soups, too.

Fruit & veggies do have some fiber but you might need more filling foods such as the beans & rice. Yogurt has no fiber.

I also need portion control, esp. as I get closer to goal. I've been doing it just fine - almost couldn't finish my dinner last night.
  • By all means, don't starve. You should not feel starving on phase 1. I ate tons of fruits and veggies. The oatmeal does help too. And drink that water. Many times we really aren't hungry, just dehydrated.
  • I never felt like I was *starving* on phase 1. I did experience "genuine" hunger. I ate when I was hungry. Usually every 3 to 4 hours. Oatmeal fills you up and beans and rice, do too. Drink plenty of water. Fruit is a good snack and very filling. Also.. unlimited.
