quorn

  • i recently went to london and as a vegetarian it was recommended i order quorn over there. recently i found it at the health food store!! the website says it's a mushroom-like composition (mycoprotein)...

i am on day 1 of phase 2 today...my girlfriend and i had it one night...she couldn't deal with the lack of chicken for 9 days.

it is VERY similar to chicken - we "grilled" it in a pan with some olive oil, garlic, and balsamic vinegar and it was wonderful!!!

    any ideas??
  • I don't have a clue if it's acceptable, though we are allowed to eat many meat substitutes depending on the ingredients.

However, you might want to read this post http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19146 before eating another bite of quorn

I personally love Morningstar Farms Chix (vegetarian) patties.
  • wow...i had read an article when i came back from london. but i thought i'd try considering i have no food allergies. i didn't think about that before posting it on here...sorry and thanks for the link. i think i'll avoid the risk.

i like morningstar a lot better, but i have a hard time finding any meatless "cutlets" the girlfriend likes. i don't like the morningstar "meal starter chix strips"...

    i'll keep looking.

no more quorn for me...i also just read that they barely squeezed by the fda regulations...yikes.
  • wow! that's crazy.

At this point in Phase 1, (4 days in) I am ready to try anything!!! Thanks for the tip on the MS Chix!
  • Wow that is scary stuff! I bought it after seeing it in with all the meat substitutes thinking it would be nice to try instead of some of the patties. I haven't had any yet as I'm on phase 1 and wanted to stick to whole foods during this phase, but figured I would add it in phase 2 instead of chicken. Now I'm not so sure!
