Red face New Member - Day 1!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Sandy and today is my first day on the Fat Smash Diet. I found this site after I searched for phase 1 meal ideas. Reading how everyone is doing here and their positive attitudes even when they have slipped was what I needed to get me to commit to starting the program. My husband and I are going on it together. We've been talking about doing if for a while (like 2 years) but the time never seemed right (excuses already) but the truth really is we just weren't ready. And all that produce is expensive for two people to jump in and buy to get started. But we're biting the bullet and jumping in.

We washed up as much as we dare last night so that there were fewer excuses to not do it. I put grapes in handy bags of about a cup each so they were easy to grab as snacks. We took all the things we can't eat out of the fridge and put in our extra fridge in the garage so there was no missing anything to make us stumble.

I called to check on my husband at work and he of course said he was hungry. But from what I've read of everyone's posts on this site I'm confident that after a couple days it won't be an issue. My biggest thing is giving up my Dr. Pepper. It's my addiction. Yeah, that bad. But I figure if I keep myself busy with reading and posting in the morning I can keep myself distracted enough to get past my a.m. craving.

I doubt I'll lose much to start with except water weight. I had foot surgery about 3 weeks ago so I can't do much for walking or exercise yet, but I really look forward to the detoxing. We've been eating too much fast food lately that's for sure. So we'll see. But I hope that my husband can do well. He put on a good bit of weight since he injured his back a few years ago. He had surgery 3 years ago but he got out of the service a few months later so he hasn't been exercising like he should so the weight has just piled on. I feel so bad for him because it's really affected his self esteem so I hope he does really well.

So here's to progress and losing a few pounds. Cross your fingers for us!

Thanks.

Welcome Sandy,

I have been smashing for 7 days now. I too love Dr. Pepper but so far I have been able to resist. With your hubby going on this too you should have an easier time. My hubby has been out of town so I could stick to it w/o too much temptation except for one cheat when my hubby came home. However, I jumped right back on track. You are really going to like being on this site. Not only are the people so helpful and supportive but the recipes are fantastic. Welcome to the group.

Good Luck, Sandy! I gave up sodas two years ago and Dr. Pepper was my fave too. So I can relate. I have to admit that it was rough for a couple of weeks but then it got easier every day after that - no cravings for soda since. I only drink decaf teas and water now. Now that I quit drinking sodas I do not have the indigestion and bloating feelings that I used to have.

That's awesome that you and your hubby are doing this diet together. I'm sure that will help make it easier to stick with it. I have a fiance that can eat anything in sight and never gain a pound! so there is always diet food & tempting junk food in the house - which makes it very difficult to stay focused on eating healthy. He is very supportive of my weight loss efforts and never comments on my weight - ((he knows better! LOL)) so he at least stores his snacks in his office/game room but just knowing they are in the house drives me nuts sometimes!

Anyway, Good Luck to you both!
