Ok im on day 6 of P1. Was going crazy with no meat. Been eating a lot of Granny Smiths Green Apples which i love. Went to the store last night and bought some Morning Star Farms products. Last night i had the Grillers Prime and some baked yam cubes. Morning Star Farms produce meatless products. I read the label and the main ingredient is vegtable protein(soy). is this ok for P1. If so P1 will be easy because me and my wife love them.
I don't know a darn thing about the Fat Smash program. But I do know I LOVE the Morning STar Farms products. The Chick pattie is my favorite. I like to get it nice and crunchy in the oven. I bake it longer then they say to. and at a higher temp. I also love their sausage patties. I crumble one up and put it in egg white omlettes. I also really, REALLY like the Spicy Bean Burger.
I know that was of ZERO help to you Lonzo. But when I saw the Morning Star Farms thread going, I had to take a peek - and then of course I had to pipe in.
Good luck to you. I hope there is someone out there who can answer you.
I believe the grillers have wheat in it, which isn't phase 1 approved, but in the past, I ate veggie burgers with wheat in it, and didn't see a stall in my weightloss.
i think they are fine for phase 1. ive eat them and havent seen any differences...ive lost more actually. im eating their breakfast scramble...but taking out the red potato...its really good with egg white! YUM!
i was impressed how good they tasted. i didnt get any of the chicken products because they were breaded. they looked really good though and i will get them in P2. i also got some meatless morning sausage and will be making sausage and eggs in the morning. tonight we will be trying the Italian Sausage by Morning Star. was wary of the black bean and corn burger but if u recommend then i will try it. what i like is that they are not that expensive. the burgers were about $2.50 for four and we ate 2 each so not to shabby.
I don't think the salt content is quite astronomical. I don't have a box in front of me right now, so I can't quote specifics. I do know this though. I eat mostly whole foods. The Morning Star Farms products are just about the only processed foods that I do eat. They have many, many benefits to them, they're tasty, satisfy the need for me to have that meat and or fried type food, they're low in calories and fat, with a decent amount of protein and some fiber, they're convenient - all which help me to stay on plan - which is VITAL. I control all the other meals that I am eating throughout the day, which means I control the sodium. If I have one item that is a little higher in sodium, it's not the end of the world. It's all about finding balance.
Anyone try Eat Positive Gardenburger products? I had the BBQ Riblets last night and they were really really good. Im not a vegitarian but when i advance in phases I will still eat these dishes, thats how good they are. Anyone that has not tried them needs to. I still am in shock of how good they are and being a guy that works with only guys in my office I cannot get them to believe me and try them. Oh well their loss.
This link has the nutritional breakdown of the Morningstar Farms foods. The sodium content is 280mg for the vegan patty and the "Grillers Prime" has 360mg.
For perspective, a cup of nonfat cow milk has 130mg, a fillet of cod has 140mg, so I wouldn't consider these products to be extremely high in sodium either, when considering you are eating one or two a day in addition to a whole foods diet. That's what I do, anyway, when I eat these or Gardenburgers or other processed analogues.
Lonzo, to answer your question, YES I have eaten all the vegan Gardenburger products and the BBQ Riblets one is a FAVORITE in my house! It's an occasional treat, due to the sugar, processed factor and sodium though. Still, it is high in protein, low in fat, cholesterol free, and how often does your protein source have FIBER to boot?
SoulBliss, it was early in the AM when I wrote that post. Morning Star Farms actually has their own website, with nutritional info as well as plenty of other stuff.
Those BBQ riblets sound YUMMY. I'll have to try and hunt those down.

Yes, Morningstar Farms has a website ( http://www.seeveggiesdifferently.com/ ) but I linked the one I did because it shows the nutritional breakdown of many foods with no searching needed (unlike the Morningstar Farms website!)
The BBQ Riblets are really good, easy to fix and make great sandwiches, wraps or are nice on their own with veggies and a salad (and maybe an "allowable" starch). I cook them in a skillet or wrap them in foil and cook in the toaster oven.
had some GimmeLean Sausage style today. crumbled it up; fried it with a lil water; mixed with 4 egg whites and scrambled. it is ok but i was hoping for more flavor. i will have it again though. trying Boca Italian Meatless Sausage tonight. gonna sautee it with onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. hopefully it is as good as it sounds. prolly serve it over about a cup of brown rice.
ok made the Italian Sausage dish from Boca. rice was good; veggie stri fry was good; the italian sausage was not so good. prolly wont buy that one again. also left a really bad aftertaste
