:carrot: I don't know what to say . I have had a good day today I just had my weigh in and have now lost a total of 10 and 1/2 pounds :D I think we all need to just hang in there . Hope that helps.!

modemama 11-16-2005 05:00 PM

I've finally lost my cycle water weight, or am starting to.

I read a really neat online diet book. It's called The Hacker's Diet. http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/

Grandma Mouse 11-16-2005 08:02 PM

Modemama I love the new picture and am excited for you. I am checking out the couch to 5k run . I need to exersize and just lack the push I need. I also noticed we have the same goal weight . :dizzy: I love your weight trackers how do I get some? I also discovered a great low fat icecream bar by weight watchers. they are fudgey. And low in calories. Great for at night watching a little TV. MY husband even likes them.

modemama 11-17-2005 02:17 AM

I survived day 2 of the couch to 5K. Though if I still am struggling on day 3, I'll repeat week 1. Having 75 pounds of baggage is a lot to tote around. :tread:

GMouse, you can go into the 'User CP' and signature and you should see ticker options at the top. You can select from standard or holiday themed. :) Then when you've made your ticker, the code will be at the bottom of the screen. Then highlight the text ctrl-c copies it and ctrl-v will paste it. So copy and then go back to your User CP and Signature, and paste it in the box and save. :) Hope this helps.

modemama 11-18-2005 12:25 PM

I lost 5 pounds even this week. 228.0 down to 223.0. It was my first week back on track, and so much more difficult then I expected. I'm glad to have the scale payoff. :carrot:

sugarkube 11-18-2005 12:33 PM

Hi ladies,

Just joined a few days ago and on my first day of REALLY being good. :) I've read through the posts and wanted to add to the mix that we have here. It would be fun to have a regular LDS forum.

I have been a member my whole life. I live in Southern Oregon with my two children and husband. I'm a work-at-home mom and for that I can't myself as fortunate.

Anyway, I'm just trying to eat smart and make healthy choices. More vegetables and fruit, less processed foods, more lean protein, that sort of thing. :)

So glad to be here!

Jess

modemama 11-18-2005 04:57 PM

Welcome Jess! My hubby is an oregonian too. :) He's from Silverton, which is closer to Salem.

modemama 11-27-2005 05:29 AM

Hi Amy! welcome to the thread :) I grew up in California, I miss the warm weather. :D

I'm just starting out here, and find that after 2 weeks, my enthusiasm is already starting to dwindle.

I lost 5 the first week, gained it all back the next.

I actually got 2 weeks of C25K but now my knees hurt.

lol I know this too shall pass. I'm not going to keep getting fatter, I'm determined to lose the weight.:carrot: I hate shying away from pictures with my girls because I'm ashamed. :( As soon as my knees feel better I'm getting right back on the treadmill. :tread: :D

AmberM 11-27-2005 06:28 PM

Amy,

Congrats on the 24 pound weight loss! That's something to be proud of! Welcome to 3FC. It's a great site.

Julie, keep at it! Don't get discouraged! Keep up the exercise (maybe something not so bad on the knees?). I find that i need both diet and exercise to lose. If I just do one or the other than I stay the same or gain. I"ve kept up my exercise all week but I've been off plan on eating and haven't lost anything.

Have a good week ahead ladies. We just need to take it one day...or one work-out even at a time!

Amber

AnVy1221 11-28-2005 04:02 PM

Julie: Thanks for the welcome. I just wanted to echo what Amber said - don't get discouraged. I know it's rough when the scale doesn't go in your direction but if you keep on working it will eventually head in the right direction. I know it's easy to get discouraged. After steady losses for 6 weeks, I stalled last week and even gained 2 pounds. I admit it, I got really bummed about it. But DH was so encouraging and I just kept doing what I've been doing and I have lost the 2 pounds that I gained and I'm hoping that I will continue downward at a decent rate.

Amber: thanks for the kudos on the weight loss. You've done awesome yourself. What have you been doing? I've been eating more veggies & fruits and I have eliminated processed foods from my diet.

What is everyone here doing for exercise? I generally do elliptical 6 days a week, weight lifting 3 times a week and I walk with my neighbor a couple times a week for about 2 hours (but we walk slow cuz she just had a baby so I don't really count it as exercise - more like socialization time). We also go on family bike rides about 3 times a week as long as the weather is good.

Hope everyone has a great week.

modemama 11-28-2005 05:39 PM

For excercize I have been jogging/walking 3 times a week (couch to 5k)
Doing eliptical 2 times a week.

I need to add in strength building. I had, but got a knee injury from jogging. It's almost better, but I won't jog this week.

AnVy1221 11-28-2005 11:09 PM

Julie: What is couch to 5K?

AmberM 11-29-2005 12:56 AM

Hey Julie,

I just thought of something else too. If you do start weight lifting, don't get discouraged if your weight stays the same for a few weeks or even goes up for awhile, that's normal when you start. I don't want you to get more discouraged then. My weight has stayed the same for over a month now (I just started weight training) but my inches are going down. Make sure you measure yourself and not just go by the scale.

Amy, I'm just decreasing calories and working out like a mad woman. This past month I've been trying to get in my fruits and veggies and my dairy. I'm a total junk food junkie and have been under calories but not getting in my good stuff. I've been trying to work harder to not only eat less but eat more good stuff. I've also recently added weight lifting so I can get some tone. Hopefully I'll start seeing results on that scale soon!

Good luck ladies! The holiday season will be my first while trying to lose weight. I really need to buckle down in the next 3 weeks so I can get to where I want by Christmas.

Amber

modemama 11-29-2005 02:18 AM

Amber, you are totally right. I figured my fat pounds because I have a body fat tanita scale. According to the numbers I've lost between .5 and almost 3 pounds of fat. So the gain has to be muscle!

223.0 at 44-45% body fat = 98.1-100.35 lbs of fat
226.8 at 43% body fat = 97.5 lbs of fat

Looking at it that way, I feel sooooooo much better. :carrot:

I got some good running shoes today. I'm not going to start jogging again until next week, but hopefully it won't hurt so much next week!

modemama 11-29-2005 02:27 AM

Amy, it's great that your husband is so supportive. Mine is supportive too, but more in an I love you just how you are type way. Which doesn't make it easier to stay on track.

C25K is couch-to-5k it's a training program to go from your average couch potato to being able to jog in just 9 weeks. It's on coolrunning.com you go to training>new runners>couch to 5k running plan.

I got through the first 2 weeks and really like it. It's harder then heck, but well worth the sweat and endurance.

AnVy1221 11-29-2005 06:44 PM

Amber: I've been doing weight lifting for a couple of months now. I just started a new toning program that I got out of Shape magazine this month and it is kicking my bum! I thought it would be easier becuase it uses a lot of resistance bands and light weights but WOW - it's hard!

modemama 11-30-2005 05:49 PM

I'm working on building leg strength without weights using Tony Little's Target Training tapes. I got them forever ago, and like them, though I've never used them religously.

I'm tired today. I need to find the utility bill, I've misplaced it and it is due today.

cheerio 01-05-2006 02:24 PM

Hey girls, I was so excited to see this thread, but it looks like it died out a month ago! Anyone still around?
Christine

AmberM 01-05-2006 03:26 PM

I'm still around! At a weight stand still for about 2 months now but I'm re0committing!

How are you??

Welcome to the board!

Amber

Valarie250 01-05-2006 05:39 PM

Still hanging around :)

Hey ladies :)

I'm still lurking around, with little to say... a lot has happened over the last few months, and typing takes forever, so here's the readers digest version:

-hubbie lost lost his job, we couldn't afford to cobra the insurance, so we can't afford the gastric bypass :(

-I've managed not to gain any more weight, though I haven't lost any... mostly watching what I'm eating, I have no gym energy

-I quit taking my insulin regulating medicine because of nasty side effects, so I feel crapy pretty much 24/7...

-Hubbie got a new job, making about 10k more than he used to! The new insurance won't pay for surgery for anyone under 25yrs old, so we're still having to come up with 23k all by ourselves

-I'm starting the NutiSystem diet at the end of the month, and I'm joining a new gym... if I can lose any weight this way, I'll be happy. I figure nothing else has worked, so trying something new can't hurt anything :)

So, that's my life! We were pretty bummed about hubbie losing his job, but it has all worked out well- the lord takes care of idiots first, so we shouldn't have worried at all :)

If NutiSystem doesn't work, I'll start harassing his company to pay for the surgery. If it does work, I'll cry happy tears!

Anyhoo, hope you're all having a wonderful post-holiday relaxing time :)

Valarie

cheerio 01-05-2006 11:14 PM

Hi!

Amber- oh I hate those standstills! It's hard not to get annoyed and give up. Maintaining is as good as losing, right?:^:

Valerie- great news about the job!

My official intro: I'm 27, married with 4 kids, trying for the 5th. I've been a member of the church all my life, and I live in Cedar City, Utah. I really want to get some weight off before getting pregnant again, and I want to lose it for my 10 year high school reunion this summer.

Guess that's all for now!
Christine

Valarie250 01-05-2006 11:43 PM

You're HOW old?!?

Did you say 27 with 4 kids?!? How young were you when you started? I'm 23 and can't imagine having a child right now- I was pregnant last summer and had to face becoming a mom, and I never could come to grips. It was my first miscarriage, my doctor says I'll have more unless I get my insulin levels under control. As sad as I was to lose the baby (I worked hard for two months to try and keep it) I am relieved as well... I guess the lord knew it wasn't my time!

Convert question- Is it a "mormon thing: to have babies really young? A lot of the women I've met at church are my age with 2-3 of them! Also, do most mormon women get college degrees? One lady asked about when I would have kids, and instead of telling her about my health I just said "after grad school..." she made a face like I'd said something wrong! Did I?

Anyway, anyone that young with so much responsibility has my respect! Good luck on #5! :)

Valarie

cheerio 01-06-2006 01:49 PM

Valarie- I got married at 19, had my first baby 9 months and 4 days later! I know sometimes I'm like, what was I thinking?? But on the other hand everything has turned out great, I feel like I'm a good mom and I'm glad to have my youthful energy for it. Also I want a whole bunch of kids so I wanted to get started right away, especially since my husband is 8 years older than me.
On the mormom question . . . okay, yes, mormon moms tend to have kids earlier. We know that families are more important than anything else, so we're more likely to put the baby-havin' before the education and career. Since the church teaches us that we should stay home with our kids if we can, I think a lot of women don't feel the need to get the education taken care of before having kids. If I were to guess, I'd say about half have their degree before 25, and about half of those have kids while they're still in college.
We're taught that having kids is the most important, but getting an education is very important too. So it's just up to individuals how they decide to go about doing each thing.

Lol, bet you didn't expect such a long-winded answer to that one!

ctrsara 01-06-2006 02:18 PM

Hello...

Fun! I've been a member for a while, but never seen this thread. Can I join you guys? I'm also 23, graduated from BYU in December, married my "missionary" (no one was more surprised than me...) in May (he got home in January) and I work at a community college in the area where we're both from while he goes to school (at the college where I work). We have been married about 8 months and want to start a family now but in the meantime I need to get in gear and get healthy! I have been working on my weight since 2001 (lost 40 lbs with WW) and have yo-yoed back and forth a little since then (college living isn't so healthy, but neither is being married to someone who can eat whatever he wants and never gain an ounce!). Since I lost so much my highest has been 172, and my all-time low has been 151. I really want to get under 150 for the first time, and I'm working hard to accomplish it! (Keeping track of what I eat, loosely counting WW "points", and exercising). We're probably headed to school somewhere in AZ or UT (somewhere cold please, I really hate the heat and loved Provo!) in August, but if I get pregnant we will stick around another semester because I have great insurance at my current job. Anyway, that's me. I love animals, digital video editing, keeping in touch with friends, and currently, toys. We collect potato heads, and I"m currently obsessed with Furbys. Nice to meet you all, and hopefully we can motivate each other!:carrot:

cheerio 01-06-2006 09:49 PM

Hi Sara! I saw you over on the valentine goal thread and I was planning to question you about the ctr name! Glad you're here! Where in AZ are you? I'm from flagstaff.

Well I was pretty good today . . . I only had one hamburger for dinner (few too many chips though) and I exercised this morning AND did some strenuous yard work this afternoon. (it was so warm here today! weird!)

Anybody else look forward to fast sundays for a little weight-loss boost?

Christine

cheerio 01-06-2006 09:54 PM

any guesses why my signature's not showing up anymore? can you guys see it?

AmberM 01-07-2006 09:47 AM

HI ladies,

Cheerio,
Suzanne posted an answer to that on another board. If you've all ready posted on this thread before it will only show your signature on the first message and not all so that it doesn't take up so much room in the forums. Some people have dial-up and it takes forever for some signatures to download so this way they are only on once and not 4 or 5 times.

Hi everyone! Sara, welcome! I love digital movie editing too! It is so much fun! We used to be really into toys but now that I have kids, I just don't have the time or money anymore! Congrats on your weight loss so far! Good luck on your weight loss journey!

Valarie, how are you doing? What meds did you go off of? I'm on Lantus, Avandia and Glucovance. I'm almost of my Lantus now because of my weight loss and exercising. When I was on a couple of different ones they had weird side effects so I switched. Maybe your doctor can put you on something else? Going off your meds is really not good for you. Believe me, exercising and getting your sugars under control give you TONS and TONs more energy. Also, on the mormon questions. I've noticed that some women in my ward had children when they were young but most met their hubbies while at BYU or while in college somewhere else. Even the families with 6 or 8 kid didn't start families until they were 23 or 24. I think it's different for everyone, member or non-member. I was married at 20 and ready for kids at 21 but we didn't actually have kids (we had infertility issues and adopted) until I was 24. I wasn't a member at the time but I was completely ready to be a mom and had been for a long time. It's an individual thing. A lot of people in the church like to have a big family but I don't feel like I'm pushed to do it. I know I could NEVER handle 8 kids, but some families do it beautifully.

Amber

WEll, I'm off to the races. Lots to do on Saturdays! Good luck on keeping on your plan this weekend ladies! I hate weekends, they are my worst times to stay on plan!

ctrsara 01-09-2006 02:04 PM

Hey girls!
I am in Thatcher currently, which is about 2.5 hours southeast of Phoenix. We like Flagstaff, and might go to school up there later this year. That, BYU, BYU-Idaho, or Western New Mexico (silver City). ANywhere cooler than here! (We're just a little cooler than Phoenix).

cheerio 01-09-2006 02:35 PM

Amber- thanks for the siggy info. I love the small signatures on this board, another board I post on has no limits on sigs and some of them are SO HUGE, I'm talking scrolling through 5 screens! It's ridiculous.

sara- is thatcher where EA is? My little sis was there last semester.

I think I'm going to make myself a weight-loss chart to print out. With a graph to chart what I weigh every day, somewhere to write down how many minutes I exercise, and something simple for the eating part. . . I can't handle counting calories or carbs or points.
I TRIED to exercise this morning . . . I was about 2 minutes into my video when my littlest woke up. I think I got 15 minutes in all together. I'm trying to get another kind of exercise in every day too -- just something active. Like yard work or a hike with the kids. We shall see.

Oh hey, I've got a mormon question for you gals -- what's everyone's calling right now? I am currently calling-less, just got released after 2 1/2 years of being primary secretary.

Christine

ctrsara 01-09-2006 02:53 PM

Christine-
Yep, I work at EA, and my husband's going to school here still. I went to EA too, before I went to BYU. My husband and I teach the CTR-8 class. We just said good-bye to 8 kids that were SUCH a handful, but so full of personality. We miss them, even though our 6 new ones are much more reverent. :)
I DO look forward to fast Sundays for that, but I tend to end up eating just as much during the day, it's just restricted to the afternoon/evening. Sigh.

AmberM 01-10-2006 01:24 AM

Ahhh.....it would be so nice to have so many active members and be able to have team teachers. My brother and sister in law are team teachers in Utah. I'm 2nd counselor in the Primary. We're lucky to get one teacher to show up every week here in Indiana, so much 2. I was put in 2 1/2 years ago as Secretary then after about 6 months I became 2nd counselor. Our President changed in March but I stayed under a new president. I love primary. It is so much fun. It's my favorite place in the world to be!

Well, I'm finally back on my exercise track. Gotta get this eating under control.

Good luck ladies!
Amber

cheerio 01-11-2006 07:04 PM

I love primary too! It's weird that I'm not going to be in there anymore. My little girl just started sunbeams and I can't sit in there and watch how she does.

Good news, I'm on my way to my valentines goal! I was down 2 pounds yesterday, and I'm even lower now because of a hidddddeous stomach flu . . . we'll see where it ends up evening out.

Amber- what are you doing for exercise?

Christine

AmberM 01-12-2006 12:10 AM

For exercise I like my exercise bike. It doesn't give me the workout I would get from an elliptical (I want one of those so bad) but I love to read and it keeps my mind off of the workout. Right now I'm doing weights 3 times a week (I hate weights for some reason but I can definitely see a difference since I started) followed by 1/2 hour on treadmill (doing running intervals) and 30 minutes on the bike. On the other 3 days I either do 60 minutes bike or 30 treadmill and 30 bike. I sometimes do a WATP tape but it's hard to tell the kids they can't watch the TV and I wake them up if I do it after they go to bed. I usually try to work out after they go to bed and for awhile I was doing a morning 30 minute bike routine along with the rest but I've kinda dropped that in favor of sleep! I would like to start it back up though. I think I talked my hubby into getting me a heart rate monitor so that I can make sure I'm working out in the right range and not wasting my time.

What do you ladies do for exercise??

Amber

ctrsara 01-12-2006 11:54 AM

Exercise

I am lucky - though my living room is a little small to do work out tapes, (and there is no wall between it and the bedroom, so doing whily DH is sleeping is out) the community college I work at has a wellness center (small gym) that I can use for free. I usually do 20-40 minutes on the elliptical, or if it is occupied I use the treadmill and the stair stepper. Not usually the bike - I find I just get lazy. Once or twice a week I do the weights circuits, and almost every day I do crunches with the abs roller, as well as some mat-work (that I learned in 9th grade aerobics class :). Yesterday I tried a new machine, and loved it. It's like a mountain-climber. You can do program, or manually set the speed and incline, and it goes up to 50% incline! (most treadmills only go like 10%) I love it because I miss hiking all the time (like I did when I was at BYU with those wonderful mountains in my front yard). Sometimes my husband and I go on walks.

cheerio 01-13-2006 11:41 AM

Right now I mostly do videos. For a quite a while I was walking an hour every morning with my friend across the street -- it was so fun to be able to chat while we walked! And for a while we were doing weights in her basement too, but ever since Christmas we haven't gotten back into the routine.
I like dance aerobics, anyone know of any fun dance tapes?

Christine

AmberM 01-13-2006 11:57 AM

I can't dance to save my life! I just do WATP tapes and I have an OLD Jane fonda one I can do. I bought Tae-bo tapes at a garage sale and I almost killed myself doing the one that shows you the moves!! *hehe* So those are put away for now. I'm hoping I get a bit better. I know I won't get more coordinated but hopefully I can get in better shape. I'm doing better on the treadmill but I still can't really run as fast as I'd like. I've never been good at that either...I'm just not an athletic person.
My BIL and SIL live in Lehi UT and LOVE to go hiking too. I wish we had more beautiful terrain to do it in *sigh* We really don't have many hills even in Indiana. We do have a lot of Lakes, including Lake Michigan pretty close so that might be fun sometime though.

anyway, hope all is well with you ladies! After gaining a couple of pounds earlier this week, they've melted away before today (my official weigh-in) so thank heavens. I"ve finally gotten my eating under control...at least for yesterday...one day at a time, right? That water and salt intake really make a difference on my scale. Plus I started lifting again after a 3 week hiatus so I'm sure my muscles were storing that water and wondering what I was thinking?? *hehe*

Have a good weekend ladies! That's always my bad time of the week but I'm determined to make up for the rest of the week!

Amber

cheerio 01-13-2006 03:08 PM

Oh my gosh Amber, I bet I'd beat you in a bad dancer competition. I am such a crappy dancer. I would never never take an aerobics class because I'd just be standing there looking like an idiot most of the time. The tape I do on a regular basis is one I've done for years, it's pretty simple, but I still can't get some of the moves right.

Christine

Valarie250 01-16-2006 12:15 AM

Getting back on track!

hey ladies:)

So, I stopped taking my Metformin- NASTY side-effects were killing my sexlife, and I know what's really important in this life :) Sex or health? I choose the former everytime...

I'm starting the NurtiSystem diet in a few weeks. Hubbie just got a better job so we can finally afford it! I'm also joining a gym here in town. I'm going to run a 5k with my husband in the fall and I bet him I would beat his time after he mouthed off about "having to wait for a girl..." He is so going down!

I am currently on the activities committee, but the chair woman never calls, so I've done about zip with it for a few months. I would love a calling like teaching sunday school or enrichment... something more involved!

Have any of you done NutriSystem?

Valarie

ctrsara 01-17-2006 01:07 PM

How's everyone doing after this long holiday weekend? Weight-wise I'm probably about the same, because I didn't exercise, but I didn't eat a ton, because I got the flu Friday. We're not talking full-blown Influenza-A or something, just a stomach bug that forced me to stay down for 2-3 days. I was glad for the long weekend to recover. I can't tell how truly upset my stomach was, though, because when I -thought- it was sick, all I ate was Saltine crackers, white toast, and white rice (all easier to digest), which my system is NOT used to. That might have made me sicker - all that refined flour. :) Of course as soon as I realized my stomach felt a little sick no matter what I ate, I also had some hamburger helper, Pizza Hut, and Chinese food. It all balanced out, but all-in-all wasn't very healthy. :) I'm being good again today, and I will exercise the next two days. I'll need to be careful this weekend, because we're going down to Mesa for Stake Temple Day, and we'll be eating out a lot. Anyway...

cheerio 01-17-2006 01:26 PM

valarie - teehee, you go girl!

sara- ah, the mesa temple. that's where we used to go to do baptisms when I was in yw.

I have been a really good girl this weekend! I haven't been able to exercise though, once I got over my stomach bug I had a headache one morning, then pulled my shoulder this morning. Owwwww. I'm hoping to exercise TWICE tomorrow though. Yeah baby.

Christine
