Dieters devotions for June 17, 2004
June 17
Psalm 42:11 Why are thou cast down, O my soul? and why are thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. Our society would have us believe that the person who tries to do something is a failure unless he or she succeeds. Very little honor is awarded the person who gives it her best shot but falls short of the goal. How sad, for it is the person who does her very best who pleases God the most. When we decide to diet and we try to be as faithful to it as we can be, then we are victors in the eyes of the Lord. We need never grow discouraged when we don't lose weight, as long as we are doing the best job we can. Today's thought: I judge myself harder than God does! |
checking in
Have been posting the devotions and reading all the posts but not posting much - have been feeling sick for some time now so have not been up to doing much.
As mentioned have been sick for about 3 weeks now - and to top it off I have GAINED :( like 7 pounds in this time!!! Now that I am starting to feel a bit better will have to work harder to get these pounds off. I am at the highest level in obesity and it is scary - doctor really put a scare into me last week when he mentioned this. I need to make a complete turn around in the eating department - am just consuming more than I need to. About son. Well we have connected with a child mental health counselor (she has had over 20 years experience with kids such as him). She has had one 2 hour visit with us and one visit with him (1 hour) - she called yesterday to tell me that she has ordered an IQ test to be done but because he is homeschooled the school district will not pay for it and it costs $500.00. So she has applied for aid from social services - hoping they will come up with the money as it would be hard for us to come up with it. She wants to get this done as soon as possible so that we can also apply to the childrens hospital for further assements and there is waiting list of 18 - 24 months to get him there - will get him in just under the wire of age 19. We talked again a little about having the behavior analized as that is where we see the problem. She said that the talk she had with him was great but she did notice that he answered some of her questions with things he thought she wanted to hear - a sign of not maturing. I am so glad to have someone that understands where we are coming from and can not be bluffed by a child that is articulate but can see beneath the surface. But there is hope - we are going in the right direction - getting down to what the problems are and then finding the necessary services out there for him. The counselor told me to be prepared that he will come out as mentally challenged - borderline - which means that he won't really fit in with the 'normal' and won't fit in with the 'challenged' - I told her that was my concern and told her that it would be better for him to be way over one way or the other rather than borderline. She agreed - says she knows a number of kids / young adults that are borderline and that it is sad to see that they really don't fit in anywhere - need enough supervision that their 'peers' think they are 'stupid' and yet are to 'smart' for the other group. Daugher - she is doing really well. Still walks with me and has been exercising at home with me too (mind you I haven't been doing much for the last few weeks because of being ill). But we do it together and it is great. She also has to lose weight to we are doing this together also. She is now learning to read by using phonics. YEAH!!!!!! She has a lot of sight words but I have found an excellent phonics program and she just loves it. So she is now sounding out lots of words. It is a delight to listen and watch her learn - when that light goes on boy does it shine!!!! Well, it is a very nice sunny day out there - have gone for a walk at the rec plex this morning but think this afternoon will get hubby and daughter to go for a walk with me outside - while son is left to do some summer school work. Thinking of all of you - bless you all - and praying that you are making healthy changes with respect to your food so that weight can come off once and for all. |
Hi guys!
Marilyn~sorry you have been not feeling well. I hope you are well soon. Gary~well, ya, it'd be great if he wanted to date, but i'm really happy to know him. I did not call John to go see Shrek because i wasn't feeling well. I went to go swimming after work but there was a gob of kids and i didn't feel like swimming around them. And I was REALLY hurting. I then had a bad night, lot's of pain, woke up at 3:30, partly because Simba had to potty. Then i was restless the rest of the morning. Almost didn't go to work, but figured if i made it in, i'd be ok. Feel a little better being here now, but i'm still in pain. Sometimes I notice subtle changes and it's better, but i'm tired of the pain. Going to visit Mabel, the lady i went to Des Moines with this Sat. afternoon after work. Going to check out her friend....did i tell you all about the guy who mooches off her? Leaving work a little early today to go for massage, maybe she can give me some relief. |
http://www.wegotcards.com/cards/frie...es/rainbow.GIF *WILMA* You are so very Welcome! 1/2 lb is a 1/2 lb! :cp: I am losing it very slowly as well, but I look at it this way... it's going down not up ;) Keep up the great job, Wilma. The DvD *WATP* is really nice - you can go to the section you want at any time quickly - unlike the VHS format that takes forever to rewind or move forward. I have the 1 Mile / 2 Mile & 3 Mile packaged set... got it at Target for only $20.00 :D *GARY* I wonder why we never heard of your earthquake on the news or the weather channel??? Anything over 5 is usually reported  Oh... no worries there, he gets lovin' --- and Joe takes such good care of me, I must say I am spoiled with his love for me. We will be celebrating 29 years together this Monday - June 21st and he turns 51 on the 25th a week from tomorrow. He is taking both of those days off so we can spend time together. It is going to be hot when you go to Virginia, especially when you plan on going in July, but allot of activities WILL be going on there at that time - especially in Williamsburg. Joe & I have been there, but it's been years since we last went. I know you will enjoy it there, we sure did. They have reenactments, music of that time being played & great homes to go through --- not to mention the good food ;) You all will have a good time there. Here is a Link to Williamsburg, VA... http://www.history.org/visit/ Enjoy! I just love, love, love your puppy stories!! They sure do give you something to talk about - don't they  You don't sound PROUD of your children... ... nope - not at all  :D They sound like children to be proud of, Gary. You dune good by them and it shows. How is SD doing with her eating problems? Better? Poor Ron!!!!!!!!!!!!! POOP CAPT... now that's an honor --- NOT!!!! :faint: But I think that it's wonderful that he goes to work with you - my BIL took his sons (he has 5 boys) with him allot during the summer when they were young to keep them busy (& out of trouble), now one of them works with him in the trade (he is a painter & also does wall-paper "Autumn Painting") and is now making it a living also. One out of five ain't bad in following pops footsteps... the oldest is an Investment Broker (makes allot of $$$), #2 son works in a Hair Solon, # 3 son has Downs Syndrome and works folding towels in the nearest hotel, # 4 son is the one following in his father's trade & #5 son is going to school at Case & still has 3 yrs to go (Computers - he is the one who taught me ;) ). They are all great kids! *MARY* This SATURDAY :o Goodness... I hope you get everything done that you needed to finish up and are able to enjoy the day. *Luck!* Don't cry... you know what they say, "You haven't lost a daughter --- you have gained a SON" ;) Where are they going for their Honeymoon? I wish them both well & send them my *BEST WISHES* in their new lives together! *SPROUT* I too am sorry to hear that you are still not feeling well. I do hope that you are able to get back into life again real soon --- feel better :grouphug: You children sound like they are doing well and DS is well on his way to getting the help he needs. Continued *Prayers* for him and for you as well. You too *MICHELE* *Prayers* that you feel better soon! *~*~* The skies have finally cleared here, but I am still waiting for the humidity to ease up so I am able to open up the house. It has been stifling out there the last few days and I want to open the house up so badly. I miss the sounds of the birds... I go out and sit on my porch to read or work in the yard for a bit, but it's not long before I have to come back in - it's that bad out there! Very hard to breathe. I hope it clears like they say it's gonna tomorrow and on Sat. Time for me to get dinner started... Joe has to be places tonight - so he'll be home early and I have to have dinner ready so he can eat and run. Later... :sunny: SunnyD <>< *~*~*~*~*~*~* |
Hi!
No time to post everyone, but wanted to let sprout know you are in my prayers as well as your family.
Mitchy- Hope your soon pain free, you've had it rough with that. M-kay Where? Alaska from June 24th to July 17th, Then South Jersey on a missions trip with my youth group from July 23rd- July 31st. Then to Hawaii in Nov. E.Z. Thanks Have a good time! Gotta run, and do the bullitin, pastor likes it on Thurs. and then dye the grey from these blond tresses, if I can  then I am making salad for a picnic tom. See ya! |
Seek God Too often we spend all of our time seeking God for answers to our problems when what we should be doing is just seeking God. We are not to seek God's presents, but His presence. ****** But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides. -Matthew 6:33 AMP Hi all! Went for massage last night and i literally just cried, i was in constant pain. She wasn't doing typical massage, she was doing energy work and hardly even touching me, she finally worked on my face and for some reason that totally relieved the pain. I don't understand how the body works, but i was greatly to feel some relief. Went this a.m. for an adjustment. Still in a lot of pain, but i'm assured that it WILL get better. I believe it too. Sunny~Happy early Anniversary! Wow 29 years! So you married when you were 12? ;) Mary~Can't wait to hear all about the wedding.... |
Dieters devotions for June 18, 2004
June 18
Mark 13:35 'Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning.' Diets need to be taken one day at a time. Each new day means a new diet. If yesterday's diet didn't work, it doesn't really matter. Whether we diet tomorrow or not doesn't matter, either. What does matter is today. Too often we get caught up thinking about all the things we haven't done or dreaming of all the things we ought to do, and we have no time to actually do the things we have set before us right now. God's people live in the present. They learn from the past and hope for the future, but they make the most of every single moment of every day. Live for today and see the miracles begin. Today's thought: Today's diet will be a success! |
OK, I did it now. I have a check for John for a comparitive guide my Chiro bought from him and I told him I was going to the movies tonight if he wanted to meet me there. He said it sounded like fun. It was actually very cute, he got a little flustered, started saying some stuff, got tongue tied and then told me to forget it, he didn't want to sound like an idiot savant.......so we'll just meet? and i said, ya. Was really cute. It means he is interested or i just threw him for a loop? Tell you later how it goes.

http://www.wegotcards.com/cards/friends/angels/harm.GIF Good Morning *MICHELE* I am so very sorry to hear that your still not feeling better - Ohhh, the pain you must be in! I do hope that the chiro is right and that you will soon be feeling much better!! :grouphug: Sending you goodvibes :goodvibes Thank you so much for your Anniversary Wishes... noooo, I wasn't 12, but close  I had just turned 18 when we married ;) Joe is taking the day off, but it looks like a rainy Monday for us, so we are planning to catch a couple movies out and then we are meeting our best buds, Mike & Peggy for dinner out that evening. If it gets nice we plan on spending some time at the park - just enjoying outdoor time together and walking... I just really need to get out more, so when this weather is nice - we are outside! In fact, I'll be going out in our gardens to weed & trim just as soon as I finish breakfast. Joe got called out and will be going to work for a couple hours this morning :( but he'll be home in no time :) Thank you again for the Anniversary Wishes ;) I do hope that things are flowing as you hope with John - I sure would hate for you to get hurt again. John sounds so very sweet, but he has a full plate of emotions still for his wife. At least that is what I have gained from your posts... Time, Michele... time... "All good things come to those who wait" ;) *MARY* Thinking of you and hoping that you got everything done for the wedding and are now beginning to enjoy it all... cannot wait for you to come back and fill us all in!. *~*~* I did get in some walking this week and I went to Curves on Wednesday & on Friday :D  Hope that everyone else is doing well! *God Bless* :sunny: SunnyD <>< *~*~*~*~*~*~* |
Well my friend at work has had a great time teasing me about my "date" with John, but it was not. I ran into traffic on the way home, had hardly no time to change but HAD to cuz i slopped my lunch on my top. :o I got there in time for the movie, but he was already there and thought he was later than me so went in, but then came out to get me. The movie was really good, we saw The Terminal with Tom Hanks. Really cute, touching, loved it, he liked it too. Then we went outside and talked for awhile, then my cousin and her daughter was there and we visited for a bit. She had gastric bypass about a year ago and i didn't recognize her! Wow, she's thin, John thought almost too thin. But was nice to see her. Then we talked some more and i was home by 10 pm. He is sooooo cute though........he has these brilliant blue puppy dog eyes.......I know Sunny, in God's time. ;) Met my cousin at the Farmer's Market this a.m., got some spinach and lettuce, sugar snap peas (yum!), asparagus and some really beautiful strawberries that i'm going to take to Mabel. My candle lady and the lady who makes the home made salsa weren't there today. :( Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! |
Saturday Morning
HI GALS
It is :rain: here today...can you believe it? It NEVER rains in Southern California...well, OK it is really rain just a heavy mist...gloomy for us...almost ready to break out the blankets...must be..oh, I dunno..about 60 degrees right now ;) The puppys are resting...forgot to tell you that we had them spayed yesterday. I felt so bad for them...they were sooo out of it when Angie and I went to pick them up...doing a little better this morning...keeping them quiet. It helps since the kids aren't home...Ryan off to work (working both jobs now because his schedule was all ready set for two weeks at the sporting goods store when the teaching job came up...Thursday and Friday he left the house at 7 to teach, got home at noon then went to the store and worked from 1 to 9pm) today he just works 9 to 6. Amanda is taking her mom down to see my goddaughter on her Navy ship in San Diego...my ex is godmother. Lara is with her dad for the week-end and Ron is with his mom. Went and got a haircut this morning...takes about 3 minutes to get there...had to wait for 4 minutes cause another guy beat meto the chair first...then Jack cut mine...the usual #3 all the way around...he is slowing down in his old age too...took him 3.5 minutes to get me done...either way I left the house at 7:58 and was back home at 8:15...good for another thousand miles as Jack always says. |
Got Sidetracked
I am back again...had to check on puppies then I went up to Angie's office, she was on her computer so I had her help me do something...don't know if it worked but Donna will!
Still waiting for the sun to come out...I had a dumpster delivered and threw alot of the patio in it (not sure if I mentioned it but we tore our old patio down last week-end) had it dumped and will refill it today. MARYKAY I hope the wedding was a success! Have a great time in Arkansas re-grouping your life thoughts...then come home and TAKE ACTION on those thoughts!!! i know you will! ;) MARILYN Great news for the boy..good to see some help for YOU too! So glad your daughter and you are still doing the walks together..must be fun for her too! SUE Did you get the bulletin finished in time? of course you did!! So your gonna take some maturity out of your hair huh :D I just wish I wasn't losing mine soooo dog garn fast!! How was the salad for the pic-nic? Fruit, veggie? MICHELE Hope the work the chiro did is helping you with your pain. Don't you just love Farmers Markets? Too bad the salsa guy wasn't there..love salsa..Angie makes a mango one that is pretty good...I will have to say though she makes the VERY BEST guacamole! Must be that mexican in her...hey wait a minute...she is half irish and half italian  Sounds like the "DATE!!!" with John went well ;) ;) DONNA Well did ya get it? The PM that is. Hope you and Joe have a great week-end together! Enjoy the time with your friends and your dinner. It is the time of year for the concerts in the park for us here...couldn't go to the first one last night because of the puppies surgery..maybe next week. We love to go but sometimes it is tough on Friday because of schedules...they have all different music choices through out the summer. We take a pic-nic dinner, drinks and chairs and spend about 3 hours for free enjoying the music and people...might be hard this year with the puppies..not sure if we can take them. Thank you for the website! I really appreciate the info on Virginia. Yea I am pretty proud of my kids...they do it all on their own though..no help from me ;) The guy my daughter was working with at the Navy research went to Italy (?) for a few days so he left her in charge of the project they were working on..something to do with research on an old machine/computer for testing ?? anyway he told her if she couldn't or didn't want to do it to just help someone else until he came back..otherwise she was in charge of their little project. Doesn't look good at the moment for her finishing painting my fence without my help ;) Well Donna and Joe angie just came in from yoga and told me she thinks she screwed up on the card she sent from us to you...soooo...if you go to the Jacquie Lawson site...go to the only for your anniversary card...signed, love Gary and Angie...congrats!! Well, gotta go load the dumpster.... SAMI, WILMA and SHERRY I hope all is well!!! |
http://www.wegotcards.com/cards/chaz/thanks/thanks2.GIF Hey there *GARY & ANGIE* Thank you so much for the Anniversary Wishes!! :D I DID get the PM --- but not the card... thanks for trying Angie ;) What I do when I Link a Card... ... is send it to my own e-mail address, but sign it to the person on the thread I want to leave it for before I send it off to my e-mail. Then once I get it in my e-mail box --- I bring the card up and then go up to the top left where the ADDRESS is and then Highlight the address & then Copy it. Then I Paste the link on the post... oh, and you have to make sure you surround it with the [URL] code. I hope this is the answer you were looking for ;) I will go check out the card, Gary ;) Thanks again --- you guys are the best! Joe & I think you two would make a great couple to hang out with. We hope to one day meet you both. We love the concerts in the park - we have them here too, but not for another week yet. I think they begin the last week of June. Here it's every Tuesday evening from 7-10 with a different band each week. Joe & I walk to them... so nice! It's also a time to see neighbors and catch up with everyone. I do hope the weather improves so they are able to start up. Awwwee, your poor babies --- they got fixed --- ouchy. How are they holding up? The lasers they use for surgery now really help in the healing process - it's a faster recovery. I know when I got my boys fixed they told me "now don't let them jump or run" --- yeah... riiiiight! Have you ever been able to hold a cat down from jumping or doing just what they please? Not! Hope you are more successful with your pups. Joe is out mowing the lawn right now, but when he's all done - I'll head back outdoors. It is really beautiful today! A bit too cool, but it's clear and the sun :sunny: is out, so I'm not complaining. It's about time you guys got a bit of rain --- we have had enough here. Glad that you liked the Virginia Site --- thought you might ;) Have a great day today and an even better Sunday! Thanks again for trying to send us a card ;) Luvs, Donna <>< *~*~*~*~*~*~* |
*MICHELE* Your evening with John sounded so pleasant... I am happy for you. Now if you could only get your back pain under control, huh. As far as the Farmer's Market... Joe & I are planning to go on Monday morning here if it's not raining. We love going there! They also have a flea market going across the street from the Farmer's Market we like to check out... so it's allot of fun and we come home with the best produce! Enjoy your visit with your friend today... Time to go outdoors with Joe - he's all done mowing... {{{Hugs}}} SunnyD <>< *~*~*~*~*~*~* |
Hello Friends!
It's been a very relaxing day today. I got up and went shopping this a.m. I found some great deals and all under size 16 no less!! I then had a quick lunch and tidied up the house. Now I'm just waiting for DH to call and I'll go get him from work. Tonight we're going out for dinner to make up for the missed one last week. We ended up selling our riding lawn mower that evening and it didn't work out to go out then so we're going tonight.
Michele: It sounds like you had a great evening with John. I am looking forward to seeing that movie too. Gary: Your poor puppies. I know it's necessary but.... Sounds like your weekend is going well too. About my Curves membership- my DH bought me that membership for my BD last year so it wasn't him that didn't support it. He's also liking the results he's seeing. ;) :o Sunny: Belated Anniversary wishes to you! I hope you and Joe have many more wonderful years together. I've been married to mine for 25 years and it doesn't feel like it at all. mkay: Hurry back and let us know how the wedding went. sprout: My prayers are with you and your family. It isn't easy when one of your kids is hurting and making you hurt. Hopefully he can get assessed and then get something done for him. Hello to Sami, doitforme! Have a great weekend! |
