  • Boostie,

If your husband isn't motivated to start loosing weight, he really needs to get to a point where he wants to lose weight before he will start trying. I was at that place very recently. I have known I am overweight and need to loose weight for about 2 years now. I even wanted to start to lose weight, but was simply not motivated to start. I finally decided to challenge my in-laws to a biggest looser contest at Christmas, and it's been off to the races for me since. (down 22 pounds in 6 weeks) If your husband is at all competitive, this is definitely they way to motivate him, but you can't really force someone to be motivated, it has to be on their own initiative.
  • Thank you asking about my sister ladies.

She is doing as well as can be expected...the last 2 bouts of chemo kicked her butt for sure and she is glad that is over....not looking forward the the radiation treatments but is in decent spirits.

My sister in law's news on her heart was basically one side was damaged from the high blood pressure but with diet of low salt and fat and exercise (all things she is not used to!) she should be able to live a normal 56 yr old life.

We had dinner with both of them and 14 other family members at Angie and my favorite Mexican restaurant last night...

sister ordering soy free and sil ordering low fat and less salt plates....

we are very appreciated there so it wasn't a problem for the cooks to adjust a couple of plates....

I made it worth their while!

I will check in later this week-end...

Angie and my daughter are running a 5K with the dogs today....I may walk it, not sure yet....we are having a lot of rain at times but the race is still 3 hours away...

    Prayers ~ Gary
  • Gary, I found radiation to be not that bad. The worst part is all they went through to prepare you, but you only have to do that once. Your sister's experience may not be the same as we are all different, just thought I would share my experience for what it is worth.
  • Thanks for the prayers, everyone! We can feel them working. Lawsuit settled out of court yesterday with enough to pay the attorney, all the medical bills, and have some for us to be able to pay off some other bills, too! Our attorney said we should have gotten a lot more, but the at-fault was waaaayyyy under-insured. I feel like God's will was accomplished in a wonderful way. Now, must get the taxes finished-and that's been another surprise-we're actually getting $$ back this year from both fed and state! I was shocked and have even put all the data into the program 3 times to make sure I did it all right!

Gary-glad your sister's chemo is over and your sil is willing to do the work to become healthier. Prayers will continue for you all!

Bargoo-Thanks for the info about your radiation. My mil will have her surgery on the 15th (lumpectomy or mastectomy-depending on what they see in lymph nodes), then radiation &/or chemo.

Rosebud-I definitely feel we're being given some challenges right now-but I know that we'll get through it by relying on God. So glad to hear Numpster is in her new home-such an exciting time to come for her and the family!

    Ingrid-Welcome!

Laurie-prayers for some less busy time for you!

Well, trying to figure out what to do this afternoon, but not really wanting to do much of anything at all! DS3 vacuumed the whole house while we were at the mediation yesterday-what a surprise!-so not much housecleaning to do! Anyway, I'd better go accomplish something. God bless all of you!

    Isn't God good ?

I am sometimes asked how I cope. my answer is very simple.....

    Trust God
    Trust your doctors
    And keep a positve attitude

Prayers for all who are in need.

  • Hi GALS ~

Getting settled in to watch the Super Bowl.

Angie and I did a 5K yesterday, my daughter joined us...it was a fundraiser for the local animal center...a 5K with the mutts. Angie and Amanda ran it and I walked, we looped several times so I got some pictures and they were able to get the dogs back to me after they ran so I could walk them through the finish...cool...it was rainy weather but a lot of fun. I will link the pictures below...

Church had a good turn out for first service in spite of the game activities going on.

    I will catch up soon.

    PICS HERE ~ http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/pudg...ml#post3140457
  • We just had a quiet day at home yesterday. Today we had to go out for DH had a consult with the dentist about his teeth; his bottom piece needed repairs or replacing. Turns out the dentist thinks they can reline them for him so that he can at least use them to chew his food; but the price was bit higher than we expected for just a repair. So now we just have to wait to see if our insurance will pay for them or not.

GARY ~ the pics were great; love to see those furry babies, and they sure looked like they were enjoying themselves (and a bit tuckered out too).

We picked up our fresh foods for the week while we were at it and did a few errands; so I got some xtra walking in today as well. The temps said that it was only -9C but the northern winds were really cold; and it has been snowing lightly for a good part of the day. If it wasn't for his appointment, I would have rathered stayed home.

Hope everyone is having a great day ... Rosebud
  • HI GALS ~

Rosebud the puppies had a great time! They love to "GO" and we love to take them....prayers for good news on the insurance for Dh's teeth!

Prayers for all concerns ~ Gary
  • HELLO EVERYBODY ~ it's a bit colder here this week; temps dropping down to about -17C tonight, and we have had some cold northernly winds making it feel much worse ...

So we just stayed home today; doing well on my plan, so am happy about that. DH just got back from a charity hockey game ... I think I just heard the car drive in. Our winter carnival is on right now, and we hope to get out to see a few things; he has been checking almost every day, but most of the stuff will be this weekend -- should be lots of fun.

Hope you are all having a great week ... Rosebud
  • Hi, Everyone! It's cold here too (-13 F this morning) and we finally got dug out from the last snow (11 more inches on top of the 24 or so we had so far). Can't wait till this winter is done and gone, but at this rate, the snow won't be melted away until July!

Rosebud-a winter carnival sounds nice! Do they do ice sculptures and stuff like that? Clear Lake, just north of us, is having their kite festival in a week, where people from all over bring in those huge kites and fly them on the frozen lake. They are just beautiful to see! Here's a link to see some photos from past years : elmon.smugmug.com/gallery/4675868_QSxM9#276357419_MeDrJ

We usually drive by to see the kites, but don't get out of the car, because I just can't take the cold and wind off the lake!

Hi and prayers for everyone else too! Not much going on here, but seems like I'm too busy anyway! Must finish up some paperwork for DS2 possible scholarships, along with taxes, fafsa, etc, etc....Seemed like this year all the tax info came much later than usual.

I've been reading the OT the last few months and am to Isaiah, which led me back to Job today and a chapter I had noted a few weeks ago, where God asks Job, "Did you ever tell the sun to rise? And, did it obey?" Just reminded me of God's awesome power and also how He's reining in Satan's powers. I can only begin to imagine how bad these last couple years, and even now, would have been if God were not the One in charge. I have to keep remembering that God IS the one in control, not Satan, and He's watching over and protecting us from Satan's evil lies and deceit and we must remember to rely on God and not ourselves to get through all that the evil one has set in our paths. Just wanted to share that.

Well, better get going here, or I'd happily just stay under the blankie all day! to all!
  • HI GALS ~

Gosh it is slow around here...I'm not much help either

Work has been a bit stressful, nothing major, just the fact that we are keeping a small crew but still trying to maintain production...it ain't happening. We are on a Mercedes Benz project...they want us to move faster with the building, but at the same time are making major changes that they don't have the money...yet...to pay for...soooo...we keep a smaller crew and try to keep payroll down but keep building. My boss has not been a happy camper lately. We do have projects in the future, several large ones...some on hold for now...things could get real slow for my end of it in a month or so for awhile. That is OK for me, I can miss a few months and not be hurt too bad but boy that will really be a mess for my brother and brother in law, with the medical insurance and all....

    God is in control!

Which is why I love what you posted RONNI I know I am not alone when I go to the Lord in prayer and tell Him I feel like Job. Then I go read it again and go...hey! wait a minute dude your life is nothing close to Job's!!! Now that guy was in pain!

Angie and I have an easy week-end planned. I will throw the dogs in on her in a minute, depending on how she feels, she has a bit of a cold, we will walk the dogs to Starbucks or take them to the beach for a walk and breakfast. Plan to hit Costco at some point this week-end...maybe a dinner out tonight for Valentine's Day tomorrow...go pick up a prize we won in a raffle for the PuppyLove 5K They didn't say what it was just that we won, on a message yesterday, while we were at work...some were nice prizes...not expensive but nice. Our local Armstrong nursery is going out of business tomorrow so we may stop in there for some clearance stuff...

this economy is really hurting people....more and more closings of stores around us

Prayers for all those in financial need.

    I will be back...have a great day!
  • HI THERE ~ well, we had much warmer temps today; the came out this AM and brought the temps up to about 0C, which is warm for this area in February. Now it is ***** a bit but the temps have fallen back down to about -10C tonight.

Our winter carnival is in full force today; lots of things going on esp for the kiddies and those with lots of xtra $$$ to spend. DH braved the winds today, but finally came home late afternoon as he was frozen. He says he doesn't know how some people can stay outdoors for so long. He came home just after lunch to warm up; then went back, but finally had enuff around 4 pm. Tomorrow is the final day and he wants to go to the smash-up derby which is his favorite thing.

RONNIE ~ Here is just a partial list of the many activities we have in our winter carnival here ...

Parades and fireworks; snow queen & princess pageants; log rolling; ice sculpting; karoke & talent contests; indoor and outdoor ice hockey; sleigh rides; helicopter rides, dog sled rides for the kiddies, polar ice water dip; tug-of-war; indoor & outdoor dances; food-eating competitions; raffles & games & many other contests; ice fishing derby, smash-up car derby, etc.

GARY ~ sorry to hear that there are still more closings down there; we are praying and hoping that things will pick up, but it seems when people are out of work, there is a terrible ripple effect. The high-end businesses start to close up becuz people can't afford those luxuries anymore.

When that happened here, many businesses catering to lower-income people opened up instead: ie second-hand, antique, and consignment shops; plus dollar stores, etc. The market moves towards the needs of the people in their target area; hence, find a need and fill it.

People cut back drastically; bike sales increased; people started cooking and gardening at home, etc. Can't blame them really; we've all had to do that here too. Fix things instead of buying new; and a new USED car dealership is opening up here right now (just after a new car dealership closed up).

Tonight we are just having a quiet time at home keeping warm; hope you are all feeling well. ^PRAYERS^ continue for all ... Rosebud
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY ... KAREN!

  • Just got back last night from visiting the kids in Portland and Seattle. We took them skiing on Mt. Rainier for 3 days. I don't ski but Dh does. The highlight for me was seeing the Christians at the Forest Grove Gospel Hall since we hadn't been there for 3 years. Last year we were at meeting in Seattle and the year before we payed for the kids to come home so we didn't go west. Most of the people at Forest Grove are quite old and one man had gone to be with the Lord since we were last there.
