I'm from Palestine and it sucks to see this happening in my home land :(
|
Hmm, no posts here in about two weeks...
I'm a Muslimah. Just joined the forum today. Good to know there are some other Muslims on the site. Working on losing weight and doing ok so far. I live in the US. I had no idea scales could be so expensive in other countries. Another thing I take for granted. (((jahjah))) May Allah help the people of Gaza. |
assalaamu aleikum sisters, another Muslim here, I'm a chubby hijabi, want to get rid of the chub, not the hijab LOL.
nice to see other Muslims on the board, and thanks to the friendly folks from other faiths who stopped by here to wish us well :) |
wa'alaikùm salaam catsnhorses :) welcome to oùr thread :)
|
salaam alaikùm FaithBW.. sorry i did not see yoùr post.. welcome to oùr groùp :)
|
HEy girls how are you all doing ?:)
|
fantastic!!!
im starting the C25K challenge tomorrow, and on off days im doing taebo!! whoohooo :) |
Hey all! Another Muslim here :D
Still working on my weight loss- My favorite thing to cook that's not too fattening is bamia with brown rice lol. Any tips on how to make the Okra softer? I am guessing I'm not let it stew long enough? I don't make a lot of middle eastern dishes cuz they take too long- my mom teases me and says I cook like an American :p Then I tell her I AM American  Anyways- nice to see you all here- don't be strangers! |
welcome beerab :)
i dont know much about making okra.. only fried okra, and we cut it up into coins, so it cooks easier. if you are stewing it, i would say stew it on low heat for most of the day, or in a crockpot.. I know of alot of fast and simple tunisian dishes, if you would like the recipes :) |
assalaamu aleikum beerab - welcome!
I think you have to let the bamia cook for a while to make it softer. I usually buy the frozen stuff, which cooks a bit quicker, especially if I can find the sliced ones. fast and simple Tunisian dishes - yes please! I like any recipes that are fast and quick. So many traditional dishes take far too long to cook. I am trying to get away from being around food too much but still have to cook for the family... Healthy, low fat and nut-free dishes would be bonuses of course [nut allergies around here, which rules out a lot of trad dishes from Muslim countries... blah!] |
no problem!! i'll get a bùnch together after i wake tomorrow :)
|
I agree many traditional recipes take FOREVER!
I'll try cooking my bamia in a crock pot next time- just thinking about it is making my mouth WATER.... *drool* |
ok, here is a file full of tunisian recipes.. it has the recipes and some of the pictures... most are very simple and fast.. a few just require to be boiled for an hour or two.. but it doesnt need alot of attention. :)
enjoy!! * you need WinRAR or WinZIP to open this file. http://rapidshare.com/files/191704175/recipes.rar |
Assalamu alaikum,
If you buy bamia in the jars (good luck...), it cooks really fast, mashaAllah. Frozen bamia is another good option. The dried stuff isn't great. I haven't been on track lately. I haven't gained anything...but I haven't lost anything either. Ugh. InshaAllah I'm back on track now, though, especially with exercise. Fi aman Allah |
hi girls i'm a muslim too and chubby as well LOL nice to meet other muslims here.
|
assalaamù alaikùm wa rahmatùllahi wa barakatùh! welcome looloo86 :)

oh so cool i love Tunisia a lot i also love the USA I was hoping to travel to the USA next year to work there but i'll still have to study more than a year.whats your major?? Mine is Pharmacy and it really really sucks
|
No major for me yet. Im thinking arabic and then get my teaching credintials and teach Kindergarten :) Thats a great age, and I love kids. Of coùrse arabic is essential for every mùslim to know, and I learn better in a classroom.
|

|

|
Assalamu alaikum,
Sorry I haven't been here in a while! I've been going through some health issues, which don't have much to do with weight, but haven't made normal life easy for me, subhanAllah. That's my only excuse... Anywho, I haven't lost anything, but I haven't gained either, alhamdulillah, so I'm ready to start losing again. Looks like there has been some interesting conversation going on here. Fi aman Allah! |
Welcome back ktgk! missed yoù alot!
yeah, there was a gùy that has been posting things on other threads and started it ùp here.. I tried to handle it appropriately.. Moderator deleted the messages today hamdùllah. Thats great yoù didnt gain any. inahs'allah yoùr health gets to its best soon. |
As salaamu 'alaikum everyone!
Congrats Jahjah! kgtk, you didn't gain so that is a victory! As for me, I'm doing well. I finally got into 170 land after being stalled around 181 for like three weeks. If I get to 175 by the end of the month, I think I'll be good. I think that's attainable. |
Asalamu Alaikum ladies!
Glad to find other Muslims on this site... What plans are you ladies on? |
wa'alaikùm salaam paperSkin :)
glad to see that yoù foùnd ùs! dont be shy to post here. Im on a personal plan.. basically, I coùnt my calories, i try to stay in healthy ranges on proteins, carbs, fats, all the nùtrients, bùt especially fiber. then I exercise as i feel like it lol. if yoù look at my tickers, they are measùred from janùary 25th to now (not when this thread was started). I started completely over this year, and im sticking to it!! insha'allah may allah make this joùrney of health easy for yoù. ameen. |
Thanks awlass.. may Allah SWT make your journey easy for you too.
I started with the fat smash, but I'm finding now that I've added some meat into my diet again the weight loss has slowed down considerably. Looks like calorie counting is the most popular thing here... I might have to start doing that but the frustration of counting everything and figuring out the calories seems like a lot of work and I would probably start obsessing about everything I eat. I cut out all the juice I was drinking and have been exercising, following the fat smash pretty well.. but I'm losing steam so I was thinking of changing plans. |
My plan is too not eat too much haha !
And ive been exercising my whole life its just the food i have trouble with! |
oh, i ùse a program that coùnts everything for me! hehe... i jùst need to obsess aboùt typing it all it... its part of my daily roùtine now :) the program is at SPARK!!!
|
Assalamu alaikum,
I'm trying not to eat after 7 PM...and I usually manage, although I was a little naughty today...oh well. InshaAllah tomorrow will be back to usual. I'm afraid to look at the scale. I did a little extra exercise today, so inshaAllah it won't have such a big impact... What do you all do to make yourself feel better about yourself? I have this feeling that I concentrate so much on the fact that I don't look like me anymore (I don't fit into my old clothes, my c-section scars are pretty pronounced, the stretch marks, etc.) that I have a hard time feeling good about the way I look... Don't get me wrong, the babies are definately worth it, but I still want to fit into my old clothes again...at least! Fi aman Allah! |
I am not a muslim, but hope you can find a muslim sister here. Good luck!
|
Hello
As salaamu 'alaikum everyone!
Wow! I didn't realize that this forum existed "alhamdulillah". I am currently following the LA Weightloss Plan. I have had lots of success in the past following the plan and inshallah I will be able to lose all the weight I need to. We'll chat soon :) |
As-Salaamù 3lykùm :)
welcome to the thread kennedy5672 and xohmimix3 :) May Allah gùide yoù to a healthier place in life. ktgk!! where have yoù been woman!!?? i miss chatting with yoù!! |
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh!
You KNOW where I am, hehehe.:dizzy: Welcome to the new members! I'm actually doing pretty well right now. I've been on a plateau since the 14th, but since I seem to be fitting into some of my old clothes better, I have an inkling that I've lost a little in my measurements. Allahu Alim. I've been exercising very regularly and my eating habits aren't too bad at the moment, mashaAllah. My favorite foods have become tofu, canned tomatoes, lentils, split peas, spinach, flax seed, and berries (any kind!) and I'm eating whole grains, just less pasta, mashaAllah. I used to eat pasta a couple times a week and now it's probably only two or three times a month, alhamdulillah. Fi aman Allah! |
