SHY ~ what is low in sodium, fat & carbs? Fresh Fruit, Veggies (like cukes & celery), and l/f or n/f yogurt. If you have cereal for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and something with your meat and veggies for dinner that would be about 4 carbs, depending on the serving sizes, and if you had any carbs for a snack like w/w soda crackers (have saltless ones), that would give you five.
I was having soup a lot for lunch but now I rotate with a sandwich and fruit instead, to keep my sodium down cuz my legs swell. I have cut my pop down to about one a week also; I rarely add salt to dishes now, but you do have to watch everything, it seems. Fruits and Veggies are carbs but they are lower in starch and sodium and fat, as are beans. Hope this helps in some way. ROSEBUD  |
hi there!
E.Z. continued prayers for you and yours and all those in Southern California. Thanks for the prayers, but Jim hasn't moved yet, he was suppose to transfer again today, butthey again postponed. They say it will happen this week, but this has been ongoing for a few weeks now, pray he gets moved real soon so therapy can resume, and he gets better and able to return home taking care of himself,
Barb- P.T.L. that the fire missed your grandsons girlfriend's house. I am doing well, currently on a plateau, have been for 2 weeks now, have two staff out so working alot, and haven't had time to exercise, so pray that things start getting back to normal soon. Hi to all, prayers!!!! |
Weigh in!
I am still at 160. I have been eating much better. I've even stayed away from the Halloween candies.:carrot::carrot: I gave my DH a hard time about eating some so now I HAVE to stay away from them or he'll never let me hear the end of it.
Shy moment: I know exactly what you're talking about when you mention the sodium. I have been cutting back for the last few years and I credit that to my weight loss. I couldn't lose anything no matter what I did until I cut back on the sodium. As far as the bread/cereal group is concerned - you can find low sodium cereals out there. I follow the DASH diet which is low sodium and the recommend that the label show no more than 5% sodium per serving. It also recommends eating whole grain products which are lower in carbs than the refined. Hope that helps a bit. check out the DASH diet site. Just google it. It works for me. Off to work. Have a great day! |
A good friend sent me this poem today; it was real sweet of her ...
THE ROSEBUD -------------- A plain and simple Rosebud, A flower of God's design. I cannot unfold the petals With these clumsy hands of mine. The secret to unfolding flowers Is not known to such as I. The flower that God opens so easily, In my hands would fade and die. If I cannot unfold a rosebud, A flower of God's design, Then how can I have the wisdom To unfold this life of mine? The solution is rather simple, Trust God every moment, every day, And look to Him for guidance With each step along the way. For the pathway that lies before me Only my Heavenly Father knows. Trusting that He'll unfold the moments, Just as He unfolds the rose... :val3: ROSEBUD :val3: |
HI GALS ~
Halloween was a blast....handed out tons of candy and visited with friends, family and neighbors. WILMA ~Weigh in today was 173.0....keep going between 172-174 no matter what I do! RENNIE ~I eat a lot of the Progresso low sodium soups for lunch....not sure how healthy they are...but I think they are pretty good. Back to the late night trick or treaters...........:bat: |
Yipee ~ I weighed in this morning at 171.8! First time in a long time I have been there. I weighed 3 times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I may go up, as I mentioned I have been going up and down a 3 mile rollercoaster...BUT...I am there today!
So glad I had zero Halloween candy! Prayers ~ off to work...have a great day! |
Way to go Garry. Maybe you're at where you're supposed to be. Your BMI must be in the healthy range. now.
I stayed away from the candy until last night and I gave in to a few. I'm so mad at myself. Luckily my house was full of 23 year old guys (son has friends staying over) and they had no problem finishing them off so there are no more. Back to my salads at lunch today. Rosebud: I love that poem. The only line I don't like is the "plain and simple rosebud" I think they're gorgeous but I know what they're getting at. Thanks for sharing it with us. Have a great day! |
MRI Update
MRI showed a lot of damage........(no kidding !!) Surgeon and shoulder specialist say surgery not advisable as it would be a massive and even dangerous surgery. Surgeon went on to say "you are just stuck with partial use of your arm" , however next time I talked to him he said it may improve with time. So far now I will continue with physical therapy. If you are just tuning in, I am dealing with a broken shoulder, actually the bone has knit but I have a lot of muscle damage. |
Rennie, thanks for your prayers, I know who the great physician is.
You are gonna love this my orthopeduc surgeons name is Dr. Godley!Honest! |
Dr. Godley is OK, but he is not the GREAT PHYSICIAN.
|
Hi Everybody!
It's been SO long since I've posted on here but have tried to keep up! Bargoo, I"m really sorry about your shoulder! OUCH! Sounds so painful. I'll be praying for you! Wilma: I got into the Halloween candy last night too - it made me so mad but the 4 little goblins in our house brought home a pillowcase of candy EACH! Oh my - and anything you can think of they had. I didn't have any today and that is very miraculous for me because in the past if I went off a diet, that was it - I stayed off. Gary: I guess things are settling down out there? The news said the fires are dwindling down some? I hope so. AJ broke his foot today. That poor kid always has something or other. He fell off the bus and now he has a cast and crutches. :( But, he has a great attitude and is LOVING everyone waiting on him! :) Everyone have a great weekend and I'll try to keep up better here in the future! Praying for all of you! Lori |
Lori, sorry to hear about AJ. I'm glad to see he is seeing a silver lining to his predicament!
bargoo - we will continue to keep you in prayer. God can and does do miraculous things! Wilma - way to go getting back on track! I didn't buy any candy - only raisins, pretzels and pencils. I didn't think I could keep my fingers out of the bowl! Gary - GREAT weigh in! Here's hoping that it stays down! Rosebud - LOVE the poem! How wonderful and true! Shy - lowering your sodium certainly won't hurt you, so why don't you give it a try? Keep us posted on your progress :) Things are going well here. I had 3 people take me out to eat for my birthday, so I have had to face restaurant menus for the last 3 days. I think I did really well, but the weigh-in this weekend will be the true measure! I took fruit to work for my birthday treat and they scarfed it up at an amazing speed. It went much better than the desserts that folk usually bring. Blessings to all! |
I do appreciate all your prayers. I am fortunate in having a church that believes in praying for each other as well.
|
Shy, I am sometimes the same way, pick something close in Fitday and don't micromanage the nutritional data. It has bitten me a couple times too! Glad you caught the error. GREAT job in managing the sodium. It has never been an issue for me, but I eat pretty clean and don't add much salt to things. An occasional glass of V8 is probably my worst offender.
If I don't get a chance to post this weekend - I hope everyone has a fun and OP one! Blessings to all! |
|
How WONDERFUL Gary - thanks for the update!
Our God is an AWESOME God!!!! |
|
HE is LAURIE!
|
Gary, we have had similar debates in our district over prayer at graduation and baccalaureate services. The law is pretty clear. As long as it is student led. We also have a nativity in our city park, and Christmas carols at our Christmas concerts.
We are incredibly blessed to have a school superintendent that is a devout Christian. All of our building administrators are Christians with deep faith commitments and public acknowledgment of their faith. We are a blessed community and our students are fortunate to be able to thrive in an atmosphere that encourages and supports faithful living. I count my blessings every day in this regard! |
GET WELL SOON AJ!
:getwell::cheer2::getwell: |
Laurie ~ I believe in the separation of church and state. What makes me mad is how low some people can be when all that happened was a few kids praying for their friend that was injured terribly...what makes some people even want to complain about that...are they really that miserable inside?
|
Gary, that WAS a rhetorical question - right?
Of course, they are that empty and miserable inside. Everyone has a God-shaped hole that can only be filled with - well - God! For those that have not found out this truth, they will continue to be ... |
holy?....wink
|
GARY ~ glad to hear that SCOTTY is improving; prayers will continue ... thanx for the update ...
|
Thanks, Gary! He's feeling better and wanting to play kickball and stuff with the kids - NOW he's GROUCHY!!!
Would you all believe at our middle school concert a few weeks ago they sang "Who will be a Witness to the Lord"? I couldn't believe it but was very very happy and even happier that nobody left or made an issue out of it - public school!!! Unbelievable!! Lori |
I have never understood why ~ in a nation as big as the US, in which the majority of people are self-professing CHRISTIANS, that a very small, loud MINORITY, have been allowed to dictate and/or stop the MAJORITY from exercising their civil rights; that is, the right to free speech and the freedom to engage in their religion of choice whenever or wherever (which includes prayers, songs, and reading, etc).
We have been watching this debate in Canada, with interest; we are also a nation 'UNDER GOD' and our constitution and laws are supposed to be there to protect our freedoms and rights too. It is quite interesting to me that your children have the guts to stand up for their rights and freedoms quite unabashedly ... why don't the adults follow suit? |
Hi there!

It sounds like we're all really busy. I am too. It never stops! And we're getting closer to Christmas so it's not going to get any better is it?
I'm doing well - getting better with my eating. Having my salads at lunch along with a protein and having whole grain cereal or toast in the a.m. I still struggle with after work because I'm so hungry when I get home but I am planning better meals. Last night I did a really good ginger beef stirfry. DS loves it and he actually eats the veggies. Off to work. Have a great day! Prayers for all. |
Rennie , cleaning the house, doing the laundry and cooking meals looks pretty darn busy to me !
|
hi there!
quick post- They moved Jim to Braintree to that re-hab, and ask for prayer for his wife Jean she is having a real hard time having him so far away, she is contemplating bringing him back home, where he is closer, inevitably if this happens he will probably end up in a nursing home, she is going back out this Thurs. - Sat. Prayers that she sees all the rehab he is recieving and relaxes and allows it to continue. I think you in advance for all your prayers and will keep ya posted. THANKS!!
|
Prayers for Jim and Jean that God's will be done in their lives.
I have been so busy ..but I am reading and you are all in my prayers! Things are good here....I will catch up....someday...promise...real busy with church stuff. |
Weigh in day!
I am up a pound. It's also TOM so that could account for that. I found a new dressing for my salads that's low in salt and tastes really good. Do you get the Renee brand in the US? I know it is a Canadian product. It has only 3% daily value of sodium and 80 calories per tablespoon. Love it!
|
WILMA ~ I was at 171 this morning.
Prayers for all...so busy...I will be back! |
Quick flyby to say hi to all. Prayers continuing. Busy day today. Church conference tonight. Eating is going well, down another lb. YEAH!!!!!
DH did WATP with me again - he IS a dear! :-) |
Hi there!
E.Z.- Thanks! for the prayers, appreciate it Jean still having a rough time as also going through re-check for her own cancer, she has brain tumors which if they do not start growing they do not want to operate on, as could do more damage then the tumors themselves, pray her tests come back well and the right decisions are made for Jim... Thanks Great job down to 171, you don't have far to goal... better not desert us when you reach it...
Wilma- Wow! that is low sodium, I am sure your 1 lb is water weight it will be gone in a couple days Counting down- Thanks for prayers, congrats down a lb your doing good a constant move in the right dirrection Shy- we have a limited supply of choices and no low sodium either, my dad has congestive heart failure and needs to stay on low sodium so he ends up making his own, because there really is none to choose from I bought a newer car yesterday mine was in process of dying have replaced so many parts and now was going to need about $1800 dollars worth of parts without even talking cost of labor. So, I decided it was time to bite the bullet, and get a newer one. I bought a Ford Escape- really cute mint green, only 2 years old, low miledge so fun driving again for a little while anyway gotta run, your all in my prayers... God bless |
 HI EVERYONE ~ also been busy lately; had lots on our minds, as our family has a member with serious health problems again. My uncle (who just turned 60 this year) was supposed to have shoulder surgery last week, but it was cancelled becuz his doctor did a prep lung xray in July, but forgot to look at it or tell him until last week that the xray shows "a large mass" on one of his lungs; but they don't know what it is yet.
Needless to say, his family was very upset and angry about this error, becuz in serious situations, time is of the essence. Anyways, I have been sending out prayer requests for them all; and they did get an appt for a scan today and now they are on their way to a specialist for an appt on Monday. So, prayers were answered already, cuz that's very fast for here ... My aunt and their daughter are esp upset becuz my uncle has already survived two other cancers in the last decade, and now is facing another uncertainty; we are praying that he'll get thru this one too, but you can't blame them for being scared. If any of you have a spare minute, I would appreciate a small prayer for them all ... thanks, in advance. SUE ~ will certainly pray for JIM & JEAN; that the best arrangements for both of them will be made ... they certainly are having more than their share of troubles too; GOD bless them both! WE are indeed blessed; I was reminding someone of that just yesterday: that we can get so wound up in petty little complaints about day to day things, but there are so many other people out there who are going thru earth-shattering experiences in their lives; the best thing that we can do for all of them is to pray and pray and pray some more ... Our snow has arrived again; not much out there right now, but it is cold. Picked up some fruit and low-cal WW multi-grain bread today on our weekly shopping trip. I've got lots of walking in yesterday and today as well. WELL, we've had a full day today; Dh doing all kinds of repairs around here, and we even got some lights up on our place already (not turned on yet though); it's better to put them up before all the really bad weather comes. Oh, and I just wanted to tell you that many of the men who were laid off the one plant have decided to take 'early retirement', and leave the remaining jobs for the younger workers. Rumor is, that industry experts are predicting that the slump won't last forever; of course, we all hope that they are right. Thanks for all your prayers; very much appreciated. Take good care of yourselves, your fellow encourager (who's been doing a lot of private encouraging lately) ... :hug:ROSEBUD  ^PRAYERS^ are still going up for you and yours ... |
Just checking in to say hi to everyone and that I continue to keep everyone in my prayers! I'm extra busy right now. Lots of political stuff going on at church (why we can't seem to fly above this dribble is beyond me) and as lay leader, I am the "mediator" of it all. Human beings are so - well - HUMAN - Christian or not, sometimes.
My data projector (which we use as a tv in the exercise room) died in the middle of my pilates workout this morning, so I had to finish up with my laptop screen (12") - these 50 year old eyes can't handle that!!! LOL Otherwise - things are going well for me. I hope everyone has a blessed and enjoyable weekend :) |
I am doing a quick check in ladies to let you know you are all in my prayers. I have been really busy at work and church. We are setting up the "works" for a 6 million dollar project at church....3 hours last night and 3-4 hours today for Angie and I, then my USC is on tonight, church and moving my ex-wife's sister tomorrow will keep me busy...Costco on Monday.... I will catch up sometime over this long week-end.....promise!
|
Gary: You are not allowed to weigh less than me and you're getting awfully close!! WOW!
I am having a relaxing day. Had overnight company again and after they left I got dinner ready for after church tomorrow. I then finished a book I couldn't put down and now I'm heading off to watch my guys play hockey. Not a whole lot accomplished but a good day nonetheless. You are all in my prayers! |
