:welcome: susie sunshine! So how was your first day? Just remember to stretch before and after - I find that helps me out a great deal! It's really fun to see what your body can do when you push it.

Everyone is doing so well. I'm excited for you gals that are on up in Week 7+, running a continual distance. I'll be there soon, just taking the slow way in.

ShrinkingMama, I'm with you on paying attention to the distance. I'm finding myself doing the same thing. I do seem to be running a bit faster than when I started; so to me, that's an accomplishment.

Pachy, Good for you on the 10K. Sounds like your plan will work in order to train. Good luck, and keep us posted.

susie_sunshine 08-03-2006 11:39 AM

ok well i just finished workout 1 of week 1 of C25K. It wasn't awful.

It was challenging, which makes me think it will take me double the 9 weeks to reach 5K. I can handle that! By the end of November i should be in much better shape! Thanks for the encouragement!

Ok ladies I think I am back to being 100%! I am going to take tonights run a little slower, I hated not being able to run and I don't want to do anything that might take me back out of commission. Had an assignment shooting football training camp yesterday and the cheerleaders were there...now as if I wasnt already motivated being like on the same field with THOSE LADIES made me want to pick it up a notch. Going out of town this whole weekend for work. I am bringing my running shoes with me. My goal is to get at least 1 run in. Believe it or not that is a lofty goal this weekend is going to be crazy!

webweevil - Hope that ache in the knee is nothing to worry about. Congrats on getting your wk4d3 run in. I think you've got it right sticking with wk4 for one more week :)

pachy - I think I will do a gentler run today and just add a bit more walking to the end for a cooldown. I hate not being able to run so I don't want to push it too far too early. It is harder to start running again after a break but sometimes ya just need them.

softballmom - You know after wk6 is when my headgames started kicking in...you just gotta stay focused...you are doing so well :)

exquisitern - do you have any high school or middle schools nearby you with a track? They let people use them when school is not in session that is what I do...

shrinkingmama - How exciting to be only a half mile away. I bet in an actual race the high of being in a crowd of runners would push you there no problem. Keep up the great work.

susie - Welcome to the addicted called running hehe :) Good for you :)

genregirl - The muscle is 100 percent :) Will start off with a gentle run tonight just in case though...but will def be bringing my running shoes along as I go out of town for work this weekend. Where did you go hiking?

Pachyderm 08-03-2006 02:52 PM

Hello everyone and :welcome: to Susie. Congrats on the first run, you'll soon be flying through the programme

Genre Girl - I hate spiders too! I had a shiver just thinking about them. I don't know how I'll cope in the jungle !

Stephie - it's great that you are on the mend and getting back out there. I hope you have a good weekend away

Softballmom - how was week 6 day 2?

Shinking Mama - wow - running for 30 minutes - well done :carrot:

I've just come back from at 2 mile run - well, not normal run. After warming up I ran at a nice pace down the road until I reached a footpath, then I slowed down to a gentle jog (that is, gentle by fit peoples' standards!), then I got to a field and ran fast until I reached the cow (ie not quite a sprint), then I walked until the road, then I did a gentle jog, fast run (until the man with the metal detector), gentle jog, walk and gentle jog home (can you see how important landmarks are to me ;) ) all in 24 minutes. I've been reading about how doing this sort of thing increases speed, endurance and stamina so I thought I'd give it a go. You're not supposed to do it as a new runner because of the pounding, but I thought if I did all the fast stuff on grass it would be ok. I feel great now, it was quite fun (apart from when I thought I was going to die) Now I guess I wait and see how I feel tomorrow.

webweevil 08-03-2006 03:26 PM

Pachyderm,
What happens on the next run when the man with the metal detector is not there? LMAO ;)

GenreGirl 08-03-2006 05:15 PM

Afternoon All~

Well, I went to the park this morning & tried to run intervals. Emphasis on tried. As soon as I started, my legs felt heavy & tired & I felt really discouraged. :( It might be due to switching from night workouts to daytime, but I don't know. I felt pretty good until I actually began.

I took someone's advice- I'm sorry I don't remember who- & tried to mix the intervals from what I had been doing. I did a 6-3-6 & then walked another mile & a half. It was hard. Much harder than usual. Still, I plan to write it down as a workout accomplished & next time will be better. :carrot:

StephieWilliams- I live near a national park with 40+ miles of trails. We bought an annual pass & we go there several times a week. Best wishes for getting workouts in this weekend. Best to be prepared in case you do have time to run. Is it hard to find safe places when you're on the road? Or do you stick to the hotel gym?

Pachyderm- I've heard that changing speeds is good for buiding stamina (as is hillwork?). Do you run by landmark or by time?

Stephanie Osborne 08-03-2006 05:16 PM

webweevil - that is a good point...still laughing.

Genre Girl - I try to find a nearby high school and use the track there or a park system and run along a path. Not to hard usually there is a riverwalk/run trail just about everywhere in Colorado. I know what it is like to get discouraged with your running. Just chalk it up to a bad day and do better next time, you've got the right attitude.

susie_sunshine 08-03-2006 05:17 PM

Thanks pachyderm- I felt great at the time but i have to admit, i'm feeling pretty tired right now. Tried to ddr with my son for a bit but the legs were too worn out!

Stephanie Osborne 08-03-2006 10:42 PM

Well went out tonight with the intention of not aggravating my injury - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! I ran about 24 minutes and did about 17 mins worth of walking on top of that...a good warm up, a good cool down and lots of stretching. Not only is my injury NOT hurting me but I feel on top of the world right now.

I wonder how I existed before running?

Pachyderm 08-04-2006 05:02 AM

That is great Stephie :carrot: . It is really funny, when I read your post and saw 24 minutes I thought "how can anyone run for that long"! I guess my mind hasn't caught up with my progress:lol:

:lol3: hehehe, the cow might move as well!

Pachyderm 08-04-2006 05:05 AM

Susie, of course you feel tired. Your body has had a huge shock that it is exercising again! lol

After your rest day and a few more weeks you won't feel so bad the day after as you'll get fitter. Just remember to spend 10-15 minutes stretching all your muscles after you run. I left my stretches too late last sunday and I suffered the next day.

webweevil 08-04-2006 08:08 AM

Howdy folks! I took a rest day yesterday because of the ache in my knee but it felt good enough to run today - week 4 day 4 done. :carrot:

Everyone looks to be on target with their running. I cannot wait until I can run for 20 minutes like some of you are currently doing. I think when I can finally run 20 minutes without a break, I can call myself a runner. :)

susie_sunshine 08-04-2006 12:53 PM

I feel pretty good today- still taking a rest though! lol

susie_sunshine 08-05-2006 03:03 PM

ok, I made it through workout #2- even picked the pace up a bit! Feeling good!

webweevil 08-06-2006 07:56 AM

Good going Susie Sunshine! It sounds like the running "bug" has bit you. While the actual running itself is hardwork, I like the feeling afterwards of accomplishment. I see those atheletic girls running around the college campus and I so want to be able to run like that. We'll get there!

Are you running indoors or out?
