Talking Desperate for "sole" advice!

I am walking for exercise. The problem? I have duck feet. Very wide across the instep and toes and very narrow in the heel.

Obviously a shoe that is too tight across the toes is a bad thing - so I buy wide width shoes. Then my heel slips like crazy. I've tried tying the shoes tighter, but that only makes my instep and toes hurt. My heel continues to slip happily away.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Carole

Have you tried a heel cup? They are plastic cups that fit around your heel only in between your sock and the shoe. People use them for extra support or cushioning , but they might work for you by filling up the extra space in the heel of your shoe. You should be able to find them as sporting goods stores or athletic shoe stores.

Good luck. I too have wide feet (but luckily I have a normal heel) and I know how hard it is to simply find athletic shoes in wide widths.

I have the same feet! I haven't personally tried them, but I've heard that Ryka sneakers are good for this foot shape, because they're molded specifically to be more narrow in the heel. From all accounts, you may need a half size to a size larger in this brand however.
