Right now we have a treadmill, weight bench set (my DH's old one), an exercise ball, and some free weights (dumbells). Plus, my old 13-inch tv for me to watch while I run
Some day we hope to add an exercise bike and/or elliptical to our room (not sure what would get kicked out of the room since I'm not giving my my treadmill and all that stuff may not fit!!)
Right now I sort of have one, but it's in our spare bedroom, and if we have a baby someday (which we hopefully will!), I'll have to give it up for a nursery. Therefore, I'm trying to only get things I can collapse for easy storage or that won't take up much room, because it will be in the living room, probably, after that!
We have a stairclimber then (Lateral thigh strider from Wal-mart), a Gazelle, a few dumbbells and a stability ball. I would love to get a weight bench and more weights soon.
I have a treadmill, exercise bike, weight bench and weight gym thingy. Not sure what it is called. Also, have a jump rope, videos & Dvd's. I am hoping to add an elliptical and maybe a gazelle sometime in the near future. Now all I need to do is actually use the stuff!
We have recently set up a gym area in the basement. Our newest purchase (investment, really) is a stack weights home gym, a consumer version of the kind of weight machines you'd see in a health club. We just got it a couple of weeks ago and we're very enthusiastic about it!
We already had a treadmill, Ab-Lounger (some may think it's silly but I really like it!), stability ball, step, bench and various dumbbells and bands. Oh, and a big fan to keep the air circulating and evaporate sweat. Eventually, I'd like to add a mini-tramp and bike (variety!) and maybe a DDR game, but all in good time -- this is enough for right now!
For entertainment (and to shut down excuses), we have a TV, DVD player and IPod station (we had all those before, we just relocated them to the gym). All we need now is a bathroom and shower! But those are upstairs -- and climbing the stairs is more exercise anyway !
We figured, even as expensive as this all is, if we actually use it (which we have been so far), it will be less expensive and more beneficial in the long run than gym memberships we don't use. We have a loooooong history of signing up and lapsing, big-time .
I've been very dedicated to using everything so far. Having it all so convenient has made me more inclined to do it. I can go whenever I please and still get things done while I'm working out (laundry, cooking,etc.). I can work in short bursts if I need to. I don't get distracted on my way to the gym. I literally don't have enough time to talk myself out of it on the way there. I don't waste time driving there and back. And I personally know the people who used the showers before me !
I'm loving our new home gym! I just hope I'm this enthusiastic about it in 6 months!
We have one set up in the basement. We have a bench which is pretty versatile, you can incline it for situps or incline presses etc, or raise it to have some back support. It also have a place for weight for leg presses. We used to have a cheap one but it was so small and unstable, we spent more time worrying if it would hold together than concentrating on the exercise. This one was a bit more but the price was very reasonable and it's so much easier and fun to use.
Of course, we have the free weights to use with the bench. We have an exercise ball but other than watching tv on it, we haven't used it much lol
We also set up an old tv in the basement for workout DVDs and the Playstation2 (DDR, Kinetix) and we have a small radio although most of the time, I like the silence and my BF has his iPod on. And we have a couple of chairs and workout mats. I bought a real gym mat and what a difference. The flimsy ones just made my lower back hurt but I can crunch away forever on a proper mat (well ok..not forever lol)
We left the bike and treadmill upstairs in the living room. That way, we watch tv and it's less boring than if we were staring at the wall in the basement (the tv downstairs only has the DVD, not plugged in to cable and we don't get any channels on it...plus, it looks like crap but it does the job for the workout stuff)
I really love having a gym here. Not many gyms around here, or the ones that are here have really short hours (closes at noon on Saturday, 7pm during the week, closed Sundays?!?!). It cuts down on travel time. Maybe once we move, we'll join a gym. We'll need some machines eventually, but for now, it does the trick and we've been using everything religiously.
Lena--Does your Ab Lounger seem to be helping? We thought about getting one but I always like to hear from "real" people, not people on the infomercial, how well it actually works.
I have an assortment of freeweights, fanny lifter, step w/2 risers, pilates circle, yoga bricks, stability ball, jump rope, flexbands and soon to be getting a barbell. I do more free form cardio b/c I hate machines.
Treadmill, elliptical, weight bench, overhead weight thingy, step benches, free weights ranging from 1 lbs to 12 lbs, those weight stick thingies, DVDs and Videos, lcd screen, boxing bag, mats, jumping rope, resistance bands, rowing machine, exercise bike and stability ball. Of course it’s not all mine, we've put together this gym with our neighbors, my neighbor is in love with karate and weight training so most of the weight stuff is hers. I'm more into aerobics. She usually uses it in the mornings I use it later in the evening. Its fun
I'm a member at a fitness club, but we also have a "fitness center" in our apartment complex clubhouse. It's got some cardio machines, t.v.'s, freeweights & machines. And at home, I have a basic treadmill w/ adjustable incline/speed, an ab-roller (just makes crunches easier), some 10 lb dumbells, and a swiss (fitness) ball.
So, I've got three levels - the hardcore club, the "I need something more than what I have at home, but it's 2am" center at the clubhouse, and the "just something to putz around on while watching t.v." stuff at home.
Hellcatjill, yes, I really do like the Ab-Lounge. In the past, I've done crunches on the floor, crunches on mats, on the ball and on the home gym (pulling the weights while crunching) and the Ab-Lounger is the most comfortable.
More importantly, it's the only one that really feels like it's working just the abs. I'm not straining my neck (very important, so I've been told), I'm not using my arms, I'm not hurting my back or backside. I isolate and use JUST the abs to fold and release.
I can really feel that I've worked the abs (and just the abs) when I'm done.
I can't wait for the day when some of this other tissue melts off the belly and I can see the structure I'm building underneath!
