I love my new Pedometer!
It was pricey and relatively big, but I'm really liking it!
All in all, I'm loving it! Well worth the money. I don't know if I can mention the name here -- would that be considered an advertisement? If someone can tell me if it's ok to mention the name, I'll edit the post to include it. High-steppin' my way to 10,000 a day! |
Lena,
I don't see why you can't mention the name. We talk about exercise equipment by name so why not? Is it the Omron? I was wondering because I need a new one and this one sounds perfect. How much did you spend if you don't mind me asking? |
I guess the worst that can happen is a mod edits it out :0
Yes, it's the Omron Model HJ-112. I paid $35 at Walgreens. That was the on-sale price (regular was listed at $40). I got it on Tuesday and think it's worth every penny. |
Can you do me a favor?
Wear BOTH (assuming you still have the old one) for an entire day and come back and report the difference in steps. |
Lena, that's the pedometer I received when I started my new weight loss program. I LOVE it!!!
You can see the aerobic steps from previous days. Just hit "mode" so that you're in the aerobic mode, then hit "memory". |
DeafinlySmart, sure, I can do that! Good idea! Since today is half gone already, I'll do it tomorrow. I'll wear them both in the same way (iow, in my pants pocket), and let's see what they do!
Ellis, thank you! I didn't think of doing that. Good news! |
Lena,
This is the one I'm going to get and my reward if I reach my 60 mile goal this month. I'm over half way there so I think I'm going to make it. I have had several pedometers and they all are not that accurate but I've heard great things about the Omron HJ112. I hope I meet my goal now:D! All the more reason for me to keep exercising! |
Hi everyone
It has been AGES since I have been here but this thread caught my eye. I too bought a pedometer and for a long time was doing 10,000 steps a day. But alas, I've gotten lax and not only not been exercising but gained back a bunch of weight. But never give up... so I am back!! I paid $30 for mine at REI. |
Well, as requested, I wore both pedos all day today. Popped them in my pockets (old pedo in left leg, new pedo in right leg) at 6am and went about my usual day.
It is now 6pm, and I think I've probably done the bulk of my walking for the day (time to plop on the sofa TGIF!!!) That makes about 12 hours wearing them. Here are the results: Old pedo = 9907 New pedo = 7277 Yeah, yeah, I know -- I should record the old pedo's numbers if I want to do my 10,000 steps . But durn it, my conscience wouldn't let me. 7,277 sounds more realistic :). 10,000... maybe one day! |
Go, go, go Ras! You can do it and I hope you'll be loving it as much as I do! 60 miles is a lot of miles! Keep us posted as to your progress!
Welcome back Dancer! Love the name, by the way! And I'm inspired by your 10k a day! So far, using the Omron, I haven't cracked 7,500, but I'm going to try to do a little more every day until I get there. Of course, with the old pedo, I was racking up the steps like crazy. Nice for the ego but doing nothing for my real self! |
Hmmmm TGIF, sofa, TV... maybe I can rack up a few extra steps by forcing myself to march around the room during every commercial break! Just as long as I don't march to the fridge!
|
Now I sorta want to go get your pedometer, except that I really like that mine has a multiple purpose. It doubles as a coin pouch that clips on my pants and has a pedometer on it. I keep my ID, bank cards, and money without having to carry a purse.
|
Hey, Lena! (and anyone else interested in her new pedometer :D )
I don't know if you've read the instruction booklet that came with yours. I finally broke down and read mine after wearing the thing for over a week. Anyhow, it says that the pedometer doesn't count anything under 4 steps. So when you get up from the couch and take two steps to the chip bowl on the coffee table, the count doesn't move. :lol3: That may account for some of the steps that aren't showing up compared to your old pedometer. Like you, I'd rather count low, and be pleasantly surprised by a greater weight loss. :) Congratulations to everyone who is wearing and walking!! :hat: |
Hi, there, Ellis!
I think it's 4 seconds to activation. Either way, I guess that's just to make sure you're actually walking somewhere, not heading to the chip bowl. Now if only that worked on the chips themselves. If you eat less than 4 or finish them in under 4 seconds, they don't count... wheeeee! Oh, by the way, the old pedi was so sensitive, I could easily rack up 12 to 15 steps just pulling the pants down and up in the restroom. I'm serious -- I checked. And, given the amount of water I drink nowadays, that's a bunch o' steps right there! |
Quote:
Lena, 4 seconds, eh? Well, you read those instructions better than I did!! Thanks for the information, hon. :) I'm so bad about reading instuctions... I like to "wing it". I love your "four second rule" for eating. ;) |
Lena: THANK YOU for posting about this! I've been wanting a pedometer for awhile, but I wasn't sure what to get. I finally broke down and bought one on ebay yesterday. The seller has already shipped it! I can't wait to start walking :running:
|
Ellis and Lena you are making me:rofl: ! I so wish there was a 4 second rule for eating. I would be so thin right now!
Well I've had a bout of the lazies so I didn't get as many walks in over the weekend as I thought I would but right now I'm at 47 miles. I am planning a three mile tonight so I'll be at 50 miles and I know if I get to 50 I'll make the 60 mile goal by Feb 28. I hope so because I really want this pedometer. Also I just ordered the George Foreman walking workouts from this site: http://www.christianbook.com/Christi...N&item_code=WW It's only $7.99 and if you use code 234625 in the promotions box you'll get free shipping. It's 4 walking workouts, a pedometer, diet plan and a booklet. What a deal! I just couldn't pass this one up. I usually use Leslie Sansone walks but this was such a great deal I thought I'd pass it on to you all:D! |
Wow! What a great price, Ras! Thanks for the link, hon!
Hey, you're doing great with the walking... good grief! How many steps are you TAKING! :yikes: Wait a minute... is that for the month? Okay, I'm with you. I thought it was the weekend. :lol3: (sorry about that. heh heh) I saw my trainer today. He asked me how it was going with the 5000+ steps a day, and when I said, "GREAT!" he said, "Good. Up it to 6500+" CURSES!! :D Ladyfire, I hope you get your pedometer soon... Happy walking. Oh, guess what? I've lost 6.5 pounds in the two weeks I've been on my program!! :hat: I hope everyone else is doing well!! |
Quote:
Hooray, LadyFirelyght! Hope it shows up soon! :running: And Ellis, that's sensational! Wowsers :bravo: |
Hey Lena,
I took your advice and got a pedo made by Omron. mine was only 17 bucks though at walgreens. Was that the same kind as your old pedo? Even if I have to pay 20 more bucks, it'd be worth it to have an accurate pedo. The lady at the store said I could take it back after I opened it if I got the wrong one. |
Wow, wow, wow! If it's the HJ-112 and you found it for $17, you got one fantabulous deal! Congratulations! And happy steppin' to ya! :running:
|
For anyone interested, I got my Omron HJ-112 for $17.59 + $8.95 s/h. That's still about $8 cheaper than you can find it anywhere else. It's a buy-it-now auction that's going on for another 3 days. PM me if you'd like a link to it.
|
Go go go! Do it! That's a great deal! The only thing better than getting a great product is getting it at nearly half price!
|
Lena I agree, laughing is the best thing for you!:) Thanks for the compliment. I've been trying to reach my goal of 60 miles this month and I think I'll be able to do it.
Ellis-when I see a good deal I have to pass it along:D ! That's funny you thought I did all that walking in a weekend! I wish! I would be a super star. On another board I post on I know a woman that gets 30,000 steps in a day because she works in a restuarant and is on her feet all day! That's more then I get in 3 days:eek: ! I try to get in about 10,000 steps a day but on many days I fall short of that. In fact I know I have to do a workout as soon as I get off work today. Need those steps and those miles:D! hoodj0080-I agree you got a great deal and if it isn't the right one you can always take it back which is really cool! I guess I'll be at WalMart this weekend:) ! Have a great weekend everybody and keep walking:D! |
Actually lena, i didn't get the great one for that cheap! Sorry to confuse you. I asked what model you had first. It turns out I got the wrong one. I returned it. however, the HJ-112 is on sale at walmaryt.com for only 18.74!!!! I'm going tomorrow to my walmart to convice them to order one for me. I'm cheap and don't want to pay the 8 bucks for shipping, lol!

Pedometer
Thanks for all the info, I ordered one today from Walmart because the local stores don't stock them. My S&H was $5.99. I've never used one before but am curious as to the number of steps I take. Maybe being conscience of the amount will motivate me to walk more.
|
So glad you are getting the pedometer, Maureen! It has certainly motivated me to walk more, and it is fun seeing how far you go!!!
Dance |
Neat idea, walmart.com! Good thinking, Hood and Maureen! I didn't even think about that!
I'm starting week 3 of using it and I'm just pleased as punch with it. As Dance said, it's really motivating me to walk more. I'm actually looking for opportunities to walk, and that's really a first for me. I'm the original parking lot circler -- I'd circle the lot for 30 minutes trying to get that "close" spot! Enjoy your new pedo! |
I am glad to hear it, Lena! I am going to need your help getting to that one million steps LOL, and that of the others who signed up for our challenge! You go, Girl!!! You are looking like this too. This is you and me :running: :running:
BTW the other day when I walked SO far to get my car, my legs were getting so tired that I had to pretend they were this little automated character to keep me going!! :) |
I just bought this pedometer yesterday - it is so great :D I am also so shocked :^: at how much movement I DON'T do. It has been a real eye opener. I had a really busy (or so I thought) day yesterday and only managed to do 4200 steps... so I have made my monthly goal to do 7500 on average per day... I am really going to need to get :running: I think it could also be a wee bit addictive :smug:
Thanks for the recommendation! |
Yes, it does make you feel a lot better when you get used to walking. and LOL when I am tired I pretend my feet are that little automated icon LOL; it actually HELPS
|
I really LOVE this pedometer. I've been using it for 6 days now and love love LOVE it. I dropped it in Target the other day, though, and it got a big scratch across the front :( I've started wearing it on my bra (in the middle), but unfortunately that won't work for too much longer (it really doesn't work right now, but I pretend it does  )
|
I'm so glad you like it, Lydia. I'm on week 3 and liking it more every day. And stepping more, too! My first day I don't think I even broke 4,000. And I just KNEW I was walking all over the place .
Anyway, glad you're liking it! Keep on steppin! |
I only got up to 10,000 steps ONCE in the last 6 days, and that was yesterday when I spent over SIX hours moving furniture. Oh, I am so sore. Bruises everywhere. But hey, I got in almost 12k steps :P Today I barely broke 3000, haha
|
So how do you guys count these steps? Is it 10k OVER normal everyday, getting around steps, or total over the course of the whole day? I bought a cheap pedometer, and I rack up about 10k-20k a day (depending on what Im doing)...but i work in a high school as a permanent sub and am a grad student at night. so is it added to this or included in this?
Thanks! |
I put it on in the morning and wear it all day... except I usually take it off when I am at home because I like to run around the house in a nightshirt and there is nowhere to PUT it LOL. If I am doing something like housecleaning where I will get a lot of steps in, I add a pair of shorts so I can wear the pedometer. :)
|
Grumbleworts: I count every step I make. There's no way of telling how many "regular" steps I make, so it sort of has to be jumbled together.
|
I agree, Lydia... I take every one I can get in my count!!!
|
Quote:
Uhhummm.....What about wearing it on your underwear? :D I don't know how to get the rolling on the floor laughing smiley. |
((Oh, please don't let Dance say, "What underwear?"))
I wear mine all day, too, from the moment I wake up. Just about everything I wear has pockets, so that's where it lives. In addition to doing my normal daily stuff, whatever that may be and just boppin' about the house, I let it count the steps on the treadmill. That helps me boost my totals, and tells why my weekend totals are so abysmal (I don't tread on weekends). 10K is definitely not normal for me. If I make 10K it's because I really put my mind to it. When I don't make the extra effort, I don't hit 10K. Lydia, you probably burned a bunch o' calories and got some strength work in by doing all that moving! DeafinlySmart, the rofl smiley is just that... colon rofl colon like this : rofl :, without the spaces, of course. Or you could just click on the one in the expanded smilies box . :D |
