Default I confess

I hate exercise for the sake of exercise. Going to a gym doesn't work for me. But I don't hate physical activity. I love walking and day hikes. Scrubbing a bathroom, carrying laundry, sweep floors, etc. doesn't bother me.

I have to find ways to add "meaningful" activity to my day or else it just doesn't work.

OOo i know exactly what you mean. The problem with me is i need a destination in order to go anywhere! Walking is usually my main activity - i'll walk 15 minutes to get to the bus stop to go to school (usually a quick walk cause i dont want to be late! lol!) or maybe i'll walk to the thrift or drug stores around here - but i have to say theres always a reward ,be it beauty products, art supplies or a new pair of pants I also thought about mall walking at the eaton centre! meaning window shopping but longer. I often end up buying something there as a reward too, so i dont make it a habbit. I guess it works though! A new element seems to have arisen by accident! ive been drinking more water lately, so now i do sprints to get to the bathroom! *laughs* Now THAT's meaningful! I deffinatly know what you mean though - its hard to be active without having a goal or reason that really gets you going! I dont exactly exercise, but i do try to make 'healthy choices' day to day - walking to and from the grocery store with one of those old lady carts taking the stairs when i can, getting off a stop before or after my actual bus stop, or just walking from the subway station (long walk! Nice parks and houses to look at though) I also started up yoga. Sometimes i dont want to go, but i sort of go over my reasons for going and it gets me moving - i learn to relax, it gets me out of the house, it gets me to socialise a bit which is always fun, and i usually go to my boyfriend's house after! Also, it happens to be exercise, and i think we all know how good that is for you. So there we go.. many motives make things easier to achieve for me. But yea, sometime the long term goals are just not enough Anyway im done! sorry i have a tendancy to ramble! If you come up with more excuses to be active, tell me! Im always looking to add something to my melange of activities.

I have one of those "old lady carts", too! In fact, I bought the largest one possible (and get admiring comments from the little old ladies). I don't drive, so grocery shopping and other errands are mostly walking activities.

But on days when I don't have to go out, I have to plan to do active things around the house. The good news is we have lots of stairs (tall, narrow townhouse) and I have to carry our elderly Yorkie up and down several times a day. Laundry is two flights from the bedroom to the laundry room.

I'm thinking of stretching out my grocery shopping so that I have to make two or three trips a week. That way I can buy fresh produce more frequently and get extra exercise.
