Unconscious Compulsion

:strong::ebike:

This was in the January Newsletter at work.

" Consciously aquired habits that help you to more skillfully change behavior and manage energy are called rituals. It generally takes between 30 to 60 days to create a specific habit. Continue your specific rituals until you feel an unconscious compulsion to do the desired behavior. Just like an elite athelete you have to train to build specific performance routines to increases your energy capacity to facilitate permanant change." Human Performance Institute

So here to hoping everyones "Unconscious Compulsion" kicks in sooner rather then later

here here. When I started in excercising in February I hated it. Hated it!!! My trainer kept saying, just do one more week, then another, then another, and after 6 weeks he didn't see me anymore. Because I was in the gym rather than in his office moaning about it!!!

Now nearly 12 months on, I can't really imagine life without exercise. It's become part of who I am, who could have believed it?

In that last post I actually said, I hate gyms, and here I am going six days a week!

It took me about 5 months, and 50 pounds of weight loss before exercise started to seem like a compulsion rather than a necessary chore. Now, after nearly 5 years, it's like breathing. I've changed only one thing, I've moved my workouts away from the gym and toward more group and outside activities ie group bike rides etc. I guess it goes along with enjoying my life and my fitness more now.

I HATE(ed) running - I've been going for 6 weeks, around week 4 I started to really love it! I've signed up for a 10K (thanks kykaree) and will be doing some 5Ks too!

I just need to start a stretching ritual! I like that word - Hmmmm :chin: I should have a "ritual" list rather than a to do list! ;)

i COMPLETELY agree with this! i completely freak out if i cant exercise every day....i HAVE TO MAKE myself take a day off, and do weights every other day (even though i still do a 2 mile run on those days)...

i never EVER thought running would take over me like this. i guess it took about 2-3 months.
