Curves - any recent updates?
Hi - I saw the thread about Curves below but no one has posted in a while. Is anyone still doing Curves and can you tell me if it is worth the money?
Thanks!! Lesley :listen: |
I'd say it all depends on what you're looking for. For me, it was worth the money. Right now I have placed my membership on hold however as it's getting more and more difficult for me to exercise in the last weeks of pregnancy. Too much strain on my back. I've taking to just walking in the pool, as just walking outside strains my back terribly. But for the largest part of pregnancy, Curves was something I could do, which kept me on the exercise track, which is why it was worth the money to me. However, I had intended to only go for the year as I'm used to much more strenuous and longer exercise. But until my year is up, I can supplement it with running and in-home exercise. After the year, I may join a regular gym.
If you're looking for a quick workout that is not too intense, it works. You can make it more intense, but it won't be like running a marathon or anything. If you're used to doing much more, you may get put off by it, unless you just use it to supplement what you're doing. It could make up the strength training portion of your workouts. |
i go to the Ladies workout express, which is a curves clone... and i love it! its worth every penny!
|
I have been a member at curves twice now, and both times it is totally worth it. no men, no fear, less embarrassment. It's low impact, and when your big you can't handle it. I actually like going because the fitness coach's are so fun. its a place for me, no family. and after im all sweaty, i know its all worth it. they offer a free week to see how you like it. i say gooooo you!

It's Worth It
I would never find myself going to a gym, I would be afraid of the people who had the vanity pounds to loose and if I could not use the equiptment. I love curves, it's worth it, it's comfortable, and fun. One of the ladies is trying to convince me to work there!!
|
I go to Slim-n-Tone which is a gym set up like curves--it's affiliated with Nutri System. I like it. I joined Gold's Gym several years ago and didn't go enough to make it worth the money. The Slim-n-tone is 5 minutes from my house and hubby is being supportive since it's a short workout and I am back home. It is very doable and unintimadating unlike Gold's Gym where I never knew what to do next.

Hi - I am doing Curves- been a member for about 1 yr. Lost about 10 lbs and some inches. Starting the nutrition class next week and I would love to stay in touch - could use the motivation!!
Thanks...>Sue |
I've been going to curves for the last year and I like the support they give like monthly weigh in and measuring.
|
Hi everyone, my name is Dawn. I joined curves in sept. 2005, but recently became more serious about putting in the work. I started at curves weighing 245.5 (hw:250) I like that they measure you. To date I have lost 2 lbs. (gained a pound back, but I think it is muscle), and lost 8.25 inches. I recommited myself to the 3x a week and have signed up for their advance workouts starting in January. Curves is great. The staff, the women are a good source of encouragement. Personal stories unfolding in front of your eyes, is amazing to see firsthand.
Happy new year |
Dawn~ I too started in September. I have lost 8lbs and 8 in. as of the start of Dec. I am all so starting the classes in January. I just found this thread today. Its a shame there isn't more activity here. I love Curves its a great place to go. Keep in touch.

i am just starting on my journey. a friend and i will start curves tomorrow afternoon. i am committing 3-4 times per week to it for 3 months then reevaluate to make sure i am getting the results i am looking for. i am glad there are other women here to bounce thoughts around together.

Hi gardenwoman, glad to see more recent post here. I would love to keep in touch. I didn't go today, but will definitely get there in the morning. I'm watching the marathon of the bigest loser 2 on Bravo. Have a good night.
bye |
Hello Dawn and Everyone,
I love Biggest Loser! I didn't know there was a marathon. I saw where the new one is to start soon. I can't wait. I haven't been to Curves for over a week due to the holidays. The kids have been home, my Mom broke her shoulder and I was sick for several days. Starting tomorrow everything should get back to normal or at least close to it. I am ready to get back to curves too. I have signed up for their nutrition classes too. Is that the same as Advanced Classes? Has anyone heard anything about them? Well I need to get to bed so that I can get up and go back to work tomorrow. Good night! TJ |
Hello to everyone! I've been an *active* Curves member since April 2005 and I love it! I'm almost to my goal weight, though, so I'm thinking about joining another gym when I get there. It's great for losing weight!
|
Hi,
I joined Curves March 2004, and have been very loyal as of this past November. I retired then and now try to go 3X weekly. I'm at my goal weight now, due to WW core and my biggest challenge is keeping it off. Saundra:) |
Hello everyone, I've been pretty good about going to curves. I was there today and yesterday. The advance class is like bootcamp. To speed up your workout so you can burn more in 30 minutes. The special Biggest Loser is on. I'll check back.
|
I went to curves today and the employee was smoking in the employee room. she lights a candle and thinks no one notices. It ruined my whole workout :(
|
uhg! SMOKES?
I would have raised ****. how unhealhty!!! you are there to get healhty not breath in this stuff! |
So for , I am really liking Curves. I only joined this week, but everyone there has been really supportive. I have always been scared to join any kind of fitness club because I am so big. I thought that people would just stare at me. It isn't like that at all. People of all sizes are there.
Most people I talked to about Curves told me that the workouts would be too easy for me to really benefit from it. That is a lie, at least for me. I had my first workout today, and I am dying. :dizzy: LOL! Of course, I am extremely unfit. I am sure it will become better as time goes on. My advice is to just try it and see for yourself. My Curves has a deal where you can try it for a week for free. Why don't you look into that? |
Quiggs I had a lot of people tell me the curves workout was to easy. It's not true! You really get what you put into it. I work fast on the machines and really move on the recovery stations. I started loosing inches as soon as I joined. I didn't start loosing weight until I was dieting and doing curves.
I think it's an excellent place when you're first starting out. I think once I meet my goal weight I may go someplace else. |
I Love Curves
This has been one of the best choices I made in 2005. I joined on 11/28/08 and I've lost :carrot: 11 pounds!!!! :carrot: I love the workout and it is not easy. I like to push myself further and further everyday.
I am most proud of convincing 3 of my friends to join. They are very happy with their decision too. I am starting the nutrition classes Monday and my new goal is to double-up on the arm and ab machines and kick-up the cardio. I decided to get weighed and measured today, and my weight was 240.75, I joined curves in Sept.2005, and I haven't really started being committed until after thanksgiving, but I also loss 3.25 inches. So to date I have lost 9.25lbs. and 11.25 inches and 1.90% in body fat. I'm looking forward to getting to the 230's
|
hello everyone,
I started Curves in Sept. of '05 to date I have lost 8 lbs and 8 in. It's time for me to weigh and measure again though. I enjoy my work outs and the women that go there very much. I even miss it when I can't go. Since the first of Dec. I have tried to go at least 4x a week. I hope it pays off. I start the nutrition classes on the 16th. I can't wait to get started. Curves4life~ My arms are the only place that I haven't lost any inches. I like your idea of doubliing up on the machines. Maybe that will help. Dawn~ Congrats on the loses!! How did you like the Loser Special? I thought it was good but I wish they would talk and show more about their diets. They almost make it look easy or nonexsistant (the diet part anyway). Keep Curving, TJ |
Hi,
I love Curves too! I joined just over two years ago and work out 3x a week. I've only missed one week when I had the 'flu. This is the first time in my life I've actually stuck to an exercise routine. I don't really attribute my weight loss just to Curves, per se, as I've only really been losing the last six months or so when I started keeping a food diary. I do notice new muscles underneath the fat now that I've lost quite a bit of weight, especially in my arms and thighs. My knee is no longer painful when I go down stairs and my left arm is much stronger (my shoulder was almost frozen after a surgery and my arm was very weak). I've made some nice friends there of all sizes, shapes and ages and look forward to my visits. |
I just startet in dec, but I didnt start going to curves till last week. But I startet to watch what I ate way before that. I weighed in today 4 lbs lighter :)
Anyone saying its easy just doesnt really work it....u have to push it and make it 'squeeeeeeeeeeelllllll' lol |
curve sisters
hi everyone, curves is a wonderul place to go and be with people with like minds. Everyone there is very supportive and friendly.
Gardenwoman~ I did see the special BL and thought they did fantastic. I liked this show more because they had to do it own their own, without the security of having personal trainers MAKING you workout 3-4 hours a day:dizzy: I believe that on this particular show, the families were taught basic meal planning and nutrition info, and they stuck to what probably would work for them. I also think it was easier when your family is your core support and they are participating with you. All in all they looked great and they have motivated me to increase my exercise and really make the effort to get the woman in me that's been tryng to surface since I hid her away:o Good luck and have a great week. |
Hi Everyone,
Well I weighed and mesured yesterday. Ihave to say that Im proud of myself. Over the holidays I lost 2 lbs. and 4 1/2 in. Just wanted to chime in and tell someone. Have a good evening and a good start to your week. TJ |
alright TJ!!!
Iam afraid I blew my diet yesterday, got upset with the ex inlaws, then they came over, then I ate........in that order....oh well.! Today is another day ,back to normal diet!:) |
I just paid for 3 more months of curves today at $39 a month. :)
|
uhg went there today, gave it heck came home and did tae bo YUCK! I feel it now :)
|
I just got back from curves. They talked me into coming back in the afternoon for a bone screening. I ended up making an apointment with this chiropractor. The first two appointments are free so what can it hurt :)

Curves is awesome!
All i have to say is curves is very very awesome. This forum was the reason i joined in march of 2005 and im still a member. The first month i joined i lost around 8 pounds and 10 inches all over my body. The workout is VERY fun and the women that work there are very encouraging, they pick u up when you are down and let you know that everyone has the same struggle..weightloss. I recommend it completely. It helps build lean muscle and if you go to the weighloss class they offer you will learn about portion sizes and everything else you can think of. I always tell everyone to try it for a week, and if you dont like it, then dont join, but usually everyone likes it after the first workout. If you dont lose any weight the first month and do your 3 workouts look at inches..which is another thing that i really like...you could stay the same and lose inches all over your body so then you dont feel so discouraged. There is always upbeat music and attitudes at curves and after your 12 workout you become an elite member and get a curves mug. LOL..i love the prizes. Anyway..just try it...after the first workout youll fall in love with it....
also i think right now they have the membership fee half off at all curves=) -Court:dizzy: |
Right I love it so far, always meet someone new,or meet up with someone u just met. I met this teacher from our next town over and were meeting this sat. for our work out. I think its a great thing.
weighing in maybe next week. i dont want to overdo. the weigh in thingI get dissapointed too fast ....and give up :( But I love the place, wish i joined before |
I hope everyone is doing well. I went to curves yesterday and didn't do my usual effort. I did workout videos the day before ( focusing on arms and legs) and I think I over did it 'cause the muscle in the front of my thighs are killing me. So today I decided to take it easy and wil return to curves tomorrow and sat. I also am using my bally's membership 2x a week now. Have a good wk. everyone
|
I have posted in a couple other places here so I will try here...
I joined Workout Express, similar to Curves and have gone twice and really like it. Have had a bad cold this week so I couldn't go but will start up 3 x's a week to start next week. I am older so I have to take it a bit slower and very out of shape so no pushing right now, just learning the machines. The instructors there are wonderful, I really love them...such happy energic women WOW.... Good luck everyone and I will ck back in. Phyllis |
Haven't posted for awhile but have been lurking. Hope everyone is doing well. I love Curves!!! I start the nutrition classes next week. Has anyone started them already? I was just wondering how you like them.
Have a nive evening everyone. TJ |
I started the classed last Monday. The person who lead our class brought food so that we can learn how to read nutrition labels and she gave suggestions of good foods to eat that fit within the plan. I am on the first phase which is 1200 calories and 100 carbs. It is pretty strict but I am working at it hard to stick to the plan.
|
I am a curves member also! I really love it. I havent gone in a long time but I just recently made the decision to better myself so I am going back. I love how nice the employees are. So great!
I will find out in a month if I lost any inches! I hope so!!! Good Luck everyone! |
I started the 6 week challenge - just completed the first week of the diet. Not bad. Wanted to get used to eating 6 smaller meals. It actually worked out great! Felt so so much better. Will like it more when I can incorporate more fruit. Discovered I DO like baby spinach leaves in a salad.
What I don't like - the eating something different for each meal for each day - I'm going to duplicate some breakfasts and lunches to make it easier and more cost effective. Also did not like one of the recipies. Went to curves 3 x's - need to up that and maybe use my bike/yoga DVDs. Eating out will be a challenge as well (family wants to go out on Monday for Mexican). Will keep you in the loop.....Sue |
