I have no clue about my foot...I usually just go to a store and find some that feel pretty good. I guess it's pretty neutral but I'm in an area that is somewhat limited in the retail department so no running-specific outlets.
|
Hi runners,
Liz - I agree with Ilene, it is important to get a clue on what kind of foot you have. If no knowledgable shop assistant is available, maybe you could check out online. I believe runners world has once published info on feet, pronation and shoe types. IMO it is not worth risking injuries from your shoes. Today ran again for 1 hour outside. rabbit |
Hey rabbit, you are getting pretty good at running ''outside'', good for you... Next thing you know you'll hate running inside, that's how I am now...
I'm not sure if I'm running today, I haven't decided yet since I am working legs and I usually don't run on those day... But I do feel like I have energy to burn, ok, so now I've convinced myself that I should just get off this 'puter and get my butt in gear  TTFN... Running to the gym and back!! |
Phew, I finally made it to the gym after far too long being out of town, being sick, and making excuses. ;) Two miles today in about 23:30, yay! This is the first time I've managed at least a 12 min/mile pace for that far. I was surprised, a few months ago running a mile in 12 minutes was exhausting, now it feels pretty easy (though I still haven't broken the 10 min/mile barrier).
It is beautiful outside lately, I think I am going to try to start running outside more. The only problem is I usually go to the gym or run outside with my bf (now fiance!), and he hurt his knee, so no running for him. Maybe I will go on the days he doesn't work out. YP1, congrats on your 10k!!! I read the whole thing on your blog, and I'm really impressed! Great job! |
hey guys I had a great run this weekend it was awesome! I took the kids and a girlfriend of mines to the loop that I run on saturdays and since she is trying to get into shape I had her walk the 1 mile loop while I took the extended journey then we met up and she rested while I ran another mile loop and when I got back to her we walked the last mile loop. The kids stayed on the 1 mile track with her and the last walk around my daughter actually ran the whole mile I was soooooo proud of her because last month during the kids race when I did my first 5K my daughter ran the kids 1/2 mile run and vowed to never ever run again cause it was too hard, And here she is running a complete mile all by herself!! I thought that was soooooo cool! She's in cheerleading and they make those girls run so she's now used to running. And ofcourse my son was right out there running with her. I was so happy for my babies and we all had a good time.
|
YP1 -- Great description on your blog from your 10k... Congrats :bravo: so proud of you!! I would love to see pics, not because I don't believe you but because I love to look at pictures of champions!! Those are great before and after pics on your blog too...

Hey Ladies!
Well today I did a LOOONG run (for me) of 12 km...and it felt GREAT...I felt great running and after running...it is only now I can feel that my muscles are pretty sore.....I guess I need to rest and get some sleep...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

ITA w/ Ilene I love the avator as well.
Went to gym on lunch and ran about 25 minutes then did some weight lifting. |
I had a great run on the treadmill this morning. I wasn't intending to run very far as I was out drinking last night for a friend's birthday, so I set off fairly fast intending to do a fast 5k or so. And then I got to 5k and had bags of energy so just kept going, and ended up doing my second fastest ever 10k at 61.5 minutes.
I'm definitely back up for improving my 10k time in time for the next run in November, not least because a load of people from work are signing up for it, and I want to beat them! |
Hi, all! I have started running fairly recently and love it. I've worked up to running for about 35 minutes straight at about a 5 mi/hour pace (slow, I know, but would rather run longer at a slower pace!). Anyway, to-date I've only run on a treadmill, but when I ran on Monday, I did something to my hip, and it really hurts! I remember that my friend who runs marathons said the treadmill always hurts her hips. Is this common? It's hurt steadily for a couple of days now, and I'm getting worried. I've tried to stay off it so far (just doing lifting at the gym instead of cardio). Any advice?
|
Jen: Welcome and great loss BTW!! I am not a fast runner either, and there are many advantages to keeping your pace down. As for hurting if you just started it's common, what are your shoes like? They can make a huge difference.
Anyway tonight is glorious speed work... gotta love speedwork (not!) but apparently they promised it would make me faster! Cheers! Ali |
Well, if it isn't the cute little teapotdynamo  Welcome to Cool Runners ..
I still go quite slow Jen, I actually like it, what's the rush anyways, I always say, no one's running after me  ... I had a good run today did 9k... |
Jennifer,
Sorry to hear about your hip. As said before, this could be due to your shoes, or, it could be that you have bursitis caused by too much - too soon. I believe runners world did an article on the top 5 of common running injuries. maybe you can check out their website. I hope it heals with some rest, if not I would go to my doctor. succes, Rabbit Also started on the treadmill with about 5 mi/hour, and now running outside for some weeks ! |
Hello guys,
Instead of running outside early morning hours and worrying him according to DH's request I am now going to a gym I tried out Bally's in the area and I'm not to satisfied with the treadmills though I do love the weights. Anyways I decided to just go to the normal fitness center---The hotel next to my jobs fitness room. I have come to realize how much I HATE HATE HATE treadmills. I honestly felt like a gerbal running on an exercise wheel, I mean once I was done with my run this morning I left the hotel and as soon as I hit fresh air and some cool breeze I instantly missed the feeling. Maybe if I had a running partner my Dh would feel a little better because I really need to be out on the pavement. Too bad no one in my area or that I know runs. I have to come up with something though and quick fast and in a hurry. I think I need to do some research on fitness centers as well because although I like bally's the only reason I'd go there is to lift weights and I just don't see paying that much money JUST to lift weights. Call me cheap :dunno: LOL |
MrsD -- running partner = DH ... no? If he's so worried, then he can join you, I'm sure he could use the exercise too...
Tonight I am running with the running group. I discovered last night that one of the girls I swim with is in that group and she was more than enthusiastic about my joining them... |
MrsD_ There are a couple of running groups in Cincinnati through either The Running Spot (in O'Bryonville) or Fleet Feet (in Kenwood). The folks at Fleet Feet are particularly friendly.

Anyone around here runs with a stroller? a double one at that?
It kills my back and shoulders but I still do it here and there. As I have resolved to lose the stubborn 13lbs I need to lose to be at goal, I have made a goal for myself to get out there r on the treadmill 4 days/week. I usually run 4 miles and it takes me about 45 minutes. I am hoping to start posting more often for motivation from you guys. |
ellasmom2 -- Is your stroller specially made for joggers? I would think they are ergonomically correct for runners/joggers... But I really don't know. WELCOME to 3FC and Cool Runners
Last night I ran with the girls in the running group. It was fun... It's a big enough group and being that this town is smallish, everyone on the streets knew them and would toot their horns and wave. The time flew by, we did 5k... |
I had a lovely run outside this morning, it's one of those cold but really bright autumn mornings, clear blue sky, a bit of frost on the ground, and steam rising off the lake where it was warmer than the air around it.
Usually I run down to the lake in a nearby park (about 2.5k), round the lake (about 2.5k) and then do a mixture of walking and running to get home (the long way round - to take it up to about 8.5k). Today I did the run down to the lake and round the lake and decided to do another loop of the lake as I was feeling really good. I carried on running to the point where I normally break into a walk which took me to about 9k, then I walked far less than I usually do, started running again well before 10k and carried on running right to the door for a total of 11.2k. It took about 70 minutes in total, and was by far my longest and best outside run to date. All before 9am on a Saturday too :) |
Hi,
Today I did 30 min stationary bike, then 30 min run through the village. I am taking it easy for fear of getting injuries. i start to feel some points so I'll take it easy for a while. JP1 - all this before 10 am have a great weekend, rabbit |
2.4 kms in 26 minutes. I'm not sure if that's running. I'm pretty sure it's not cool. But Ilene ,it was an increase in intensity.

I always read and once in a while something actually sinks in. ;)

Since completing my last 5-k race my friend and I have sort of lost our running motivation. We still do it but needed another goal to strive for. So now I've picked out some upcoming races around our area and am very excited. We love getting the T-shirts and hopefully prizes! I did see one being held at a nudist colony called the "bare as you dare" run but I think I'll stay away from that one! Haha.. they did say NO CAMERAS ALLOWED though.
|
Liz -- Hmmm, "bare as you dare" run, :yikes: ... That would be pretty funny though... Good for you on setting goals. I guess I've inadvertently set myself a goal too I will do a try-a-tri next August. I've got a great cheering section so I just had to commit...
Sunday -- 10k... |
I am currently up to jogging 1 3/4 mile in a stretch-which is up slightly from 1 1/2 miles in a stretch last week.
I am going to be really happy and dancing around in here when I can make a full 2 miles at a time jogging! |
Hey everyone
I am still here, still running...gearing up for my race....12 more days....I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited I cant wait to just go out there and ATTACK it....hehehe Good job everyone, keep up the good work, it is VERY worth it! Leanne |
I hear you're a great dancer aphil ;) so keep dancing and running!
On Sunday I had a great 10k run. It was finally cool outside 10c I really enjoyed the run... Today, Tuesday, I am running with my new running group and they run 5k... to get to the group it's 1k there and back for me, for a total of 7k...:D...It's sunny and cool AND dry here today, it should be a good run... |
Ilene--that is a great goal! I wish you loads of luck though I'm sure you won't need it. I'm a terrible swimmer but I have looked into doing a duathalon sometime.
I ran my long run (6miles) on Sunday and swallowed a bug. No guts, no glory I guess! Though I wish it would cool off around here. It was 111 yesterday!! And I thought it was fall now.... |
5k this morning, I'm really enjoying this now.
|
@ lizzbabe now THAT race would've been just a little too much for me LOL.
Hey everybody "waving" sounds like everyone is doing great. I have been running for 50-63 minutes after work MOn, Wed, and hopefully friday while the kids are at football and cheerleading practice. It's not as easy as when I was running in the mornings but atleast i get to enjoy the air the environment and my surroundings. Sometimes it can be pretty spiritual out there. I also notice that tend to struggle to find my pace for the first 10 minutes that is like the hardest part of my run, and by the time i hit 20 minutes or going into my 2nd mile I loosen up a little and find my pace and by mile 3 I'm totally relaxed it's like past 30 minutes if I could I would just run and run and run LOL> But those first 10 minutes are KILLER! |
Mrs. Dawson--the first 10 minutes are usually hardest, because your body switches the energy systems it uses twice during that time. Doing some longer speedwork--say 3 minutes at a time--will help. Most of the first 10 minutes your body functions anaerobically, as your aerobic system slowly gets itself up to speed. The anaerobic system tends to cause the most discomfort. Also, the long runs will help your aerobic system to kick in sooner. The aerobic system is the easiest to run with, so, once it kicks in you can actually enjoy your run!
So, the best way to make that first 10 minutes easier, is to do the long intervals once a week, and keep up the long runs you are already doing! (I have to keep reminding myself of this as I am trying to get back into shape). Keep up the great work! |
Thanks so much for the advice Lamariposita That makes a whole lot of sense! I'll try that.
@Ilene I would ask him to run with me but he's getting ready for work during my morning run and he is getting off of work during my afternoon run and we works on his feet all day in a warehouse. He also has to get cortisone shots for his knee I think he fractured his something in his knee 2 years ago and can't do alot of working out for a long time. He loves basketball and gets upset cause he can't really play like he used too. He does like lifting though but never has the time to do it. We're like soccer mom and dad LOL always on the run if it's not sports it's church so I have to squeeze my workouts in when I can and he does the same. |
I have a question for you ladies . . . How long do you let yourself recover from an injury? My BF hurt his knee running a while back, but since it doesn't hurt when he walks, only when he runs, we keep saying "Oh, well it's probably better by now," then we go run and halfway through his knee starts hurting again. I don't want to prolong his injury, but if we can't tell if it's better except by exacerbating it, what can we do? Luckily I've managed to escape injury, aside from a little soreness, but I'm worried about his knees!

Has your BF gone to the doctor to make sure there's not something more serious going on? Bottom line, it's going to vary person-to-person. I sprained my knee running a half-marathon in May. My ortho cleared me to run after 2 weeks, but it took me another 4-6 weeks to fully recover. |
