Pedomete Help

Hi
I need some good advice on pedometers!! I have a crosswalk treadmill that has a monitor on it for tracking mileage, calories, fat calories, time. While Im walking on it I incline it and the last 5 minutes I let the incline back down.It seems when I have the incline up high then let it back down the monitor will reset the time and miles back to 0,Its like moving the incline back down messes up the miles. This does not happen all the time, but when you are tracking miles its enough to upset you.I had pedometers before and never really liked them,You have to make sure your stride is the same at each step for what you have it set for and that is impossible to do.I had mine a while ago back.Do they make them different now where they are more accurate?I was going to get one off of ebay but I figured I would ask first what You all think of Pedometers? There is millions of them on ebay, all prices too.Would You think the more expensive ones would be the most accurate?I'll wait to see what You all think. All I know is I cant keep track of miles with my monitor doing that.

The length of your stride x the number of steps is all a pedometer can go by, so your stride will have to be important to get an accurate distance. They'll never be truly accurate, the best you can hope for is an average or approximate distance - usually 85%. Even that is better than having your treadmill reset it to 0 :(

We wrote an article on choosing pedometers at http://www.3fatchicks.com/fitness/pedometers.php , maybe it will be helpful :) Consumer Reports recently rated pedometers and they choose the Omtron HJ-112 as the Best Buy.

Well, first of all, I think your pedomete will work better with the R on the end. LOL JK ;)

I could never get mine even remotely close using the step calculation. Plus, I use mine for walking and running. What I ended up doing was setting it by the step calculation then taking it on the treadmill and adjusting it accordingly. I ended up with two settings...one for walking and one for running and put a sticker on the back of it to tell me the number of steps to put in for each. So if I'm going for a run, I can change the steps to get the accurate total. I got a good workout just setting it too. I would run for 15 minutes and if the pedometer didn't have exactly 15 minutes when I was done, I'd fiddle with the step input until it came out exact with my run time.
