MaRcH wAlKeRs~Just Walking Away the Pounds

Hey walkin buddies!

Just starting up our thread for March.

So how did everybody do?

Did you reach your goals for February?

What are your goals for March?

Let's all keep on truckin! :tread:

hugs,
cathy

Sherrita 03-01-2005 09:35 AM

Already did 3 miles this morning! My goal is still 35. Didn't make it last month. Only got 25 in. Good luck everybody!

cathyxxx 03-01-2005 10:46 AM

hey Sherrita - good for you getting in your 3 miles this morning!
YOU GO GIRL!

I thought I had reached my goal of 30 miles last month, but I just went back and looked and I had actually set a goal of 40 miles for February. oh well - didn't make that - did 30 miles - but hey - I did what I could. Why is life is so dang busy anyway???

Hmmmmmm my goal for this month - I'm tempted to say 30 but I will say 40 and press forward!

I'm planning on walking at noon and will post it when I do it!

hugs,
cathy

fma4mom 03-01-2005 11:17 AM

I only got in 22 of the 30 that I wanted for February -- so for March I'm going with 31 -- at least 1 mile for every day! Good luck ladies! :D

cathyxxx 03-01-2005 02:35 PM

Hey Kendrea! I don't know how you get in the walking with a 3 month old baby! wow - it's hard to get around to the walking and exercise with a new baby. I remember those days - well barely - but still. Do you put her in the stroller and go?

I did 2 miles during lunch on the :tread: :cp:

March Miles = 2

shoequeen69 03-01-2005 02:55 PM

Wow you're all getting off to a great start! :D I did more mall walking last night with my boyfriend. I don't know how many miles it would equal to. I'm tempted to say at least 1 mile because its a large mall and we did many laps. We were there for an hour and 1/2 with very few stops. I'm really glad he's been walking with me. Helps keep me motivated and will get us both in shape. Probably not doing any tonight. Thanks for starting the thread Cathy. :D

cathyxxx 03-02-2005 09:14 AM

good morning walkin buddies!

I did a 30 minute 2 mile WATP video this morning before work

March Miles = 4

hugs,
cathy

Macon 03-02-2005 09:39 AM

May I join you? Several days a week, I work from my home office. On those days, I hardly move. I would love to get in the habit of taking breaks and walking around more. My goal for March will be 30 miles.

cathyxxx 03-02-2005 09:45 AM

Macon, of course you can join us!

I am at my desk at work 5 days a week - which is one of the many reasons why I have to walk! I really don't know why I didn't pursue a job as an aerobics teacher - so that I could have gotten my workout in at work! ;)

glad you have you here!
and nice to meet ya!

fma4mom 03-02-2005 09:57 AM

Well I hit the back button and lost everything I typed. Great job ding dong! :dizzy:

I am feeling like poo this morning -- as well as last night. So there has been no walking for me yet. Not a good way to start a new month. But I am going to slap my pedometer on sometime today and get some sort of walking in here at work. I usually have to do it in between my son napping -- he comes with me to work.

Cathy -- Way to go on those 4 miles already! Great job. I am not using the stroller yet as it's too cold outside still but as soon as this weather warms up you better believe I will be out walking, walking, walking!

Amy -- Great job on that mall walking! So good that you have a partner to walk with. I wish my husband would join me. I would be too tempted to shop more than walk at the mall.

Macon -- You should set reminders or get a timer to go off every so often then get up and walk. Every little bit helps.

Well I need to get back to eating breakfast -- blueberry oatmeal and coffee. :coffee: Yummo. Have a great day ladies! Walk, Walk, Walk!!!! :D

Sherrita 03-02-2005 10:56 AM

Got another 3 in this morning!

March miles: 6

Soon2BFitChick 03-02-2005 11:10 AM

Hi y'all! Miles for last month were 134.5. I had gone up to 15,000 steps a day from Feb. 18th to 28th. The other days I did at least 10,000. This month, til the 13th, I'm wanting 12,000 steps a day. 15k took too long. I had no time left!

I want in those jeans that are too tight! I want to wear them at Easter! Send me more determination. I want to stick with my food and water goals. I almost never hit my water goals. Just not thirsty enough! :o

I have to go now, or I'd respond to each of you right now. But I am gonna be late! Hope to get on here later tho! Hugs to each of you. Have a great day and keep your focus. We can do this! :D

Bye for now!

Sherrita 03-02-2005 01:02 PM

134 miles??? WOW! How do you do it?

cathyxxx 03-02-2005 02:23 PM

Sheritta - that's what I said girl! how does any woman get in 134.5 miles in 28 days! unless she is SUPERWOMAN or something! WOW!!!

Selina - did you say "send you more determination"? are you kidding me girl! there is no such thing as more determination than a woman who walked 134.5 miles last month! YOU ROCK!

and you might better share some of that determination with us!

I have forgotten - do you work a job where you are on your feet all day?

Have you figured out how many hours it took you to walk those 134.5 miles? just curious? if you walked a 15 minute mile wouldn't that be like almost 34 hours of walking????

:faint:

hugs,
cathy

Macon 03-02-2005 04:33 PM

Thanks for the welcome!

Cathy - I hear you about the aerobics instructor jobs. I do think sitting and driving (I do not live in a walking city) contributes to me problem.

Sherrita - Congrats on the 6 miles already!

Selina - that is fabulous! I have the same question - how are you getting all that in every day (esp. 15,000)? I think I could do that occasionally but EVERY DAY! That is great! Do you live in warm weather location? I hope you get in those jeans soon. Thanks for the inspriation!

Kendrea - I think that is great that you are getting any walking in with a 3 month old. I'm with you about the warmer weather. It does make it easier to get out and walk. Hopefully, spring is coming soon!

Amy - Great job on the mall walking. I wish I had a partner. My DH does a lot for me but I do not hink I can convenice him to go wlak at the mall. It does motivate me to window-shop while I walk though! :D

I started wearing my pedometer and have 2500 steps/3 miles so far today. I have to go to a meeting tonight so I will not be able to walk the dog but hopefully by the weekend, I will be increasing my steps!

Are you all just measuring when you "exercise" or do you wear a pedometer all day and add it up? I think I may try the latter just to make sure I am moving through out the day.

Soon2BFitChick 03-02-2005 10:40 PM

Answer to your question.

I get that in by pure non-stop going!!! I have two toddlers here all day, one Pre-schooler who goes half a day, two school age girls, K and 1st grade. About 16 loads of laundry a week, grocery shopping for seven people each week (shopping and carrying in all the bags, putting it all away takes time and steps too!), cook every day/evening (I'll pace around while watching the food cook) and wash all the dishes by hand bc I hate the way they turn out from the dishwasher (which doesn't add steps but is time consuming.. :( uggh! ). Lots of picking up what they drag out, over and over all day. Lots of chasing them (in fun and in seriousness :D ). I pace around them while helping them do homework, etc. I sweep sometimes 3 times a day bc of the food dropped when they all eat. (If I don't, it gets stomped into the carpet in the next room! :o ) I get up fairly early and go to bed later than I'd like. If I can't go out and walk outside, I walk in place while I watch TV or watch them play. I walk around my kitchen table while I'm folding.. fold, stack, grab, fold, stack.. while I go round and round. I'm sure it looks funny.. but I'm moving for an hour there at a time, then I walk at least an hour while watching TV at night.. and maybe another half hour during the day watching TV. I dance to my radio while they play.

I jog thru my house in a circle at night when they are asleep.. I start in the office, jog thru the toyroom (after it's picked up of course or I'd be dead now from falling on toys :dizzy: ), thru the foyer, thru the living room, through the dining room, thru the kitchen, back thru the office. On the mornings like Friday, Sat and Sun, when my husband is here.. I leave at 7am to take the two girls to school, then I go to the park and walk at least 45 mins to 2 hours to start the day. Then it all starts over! :D I've never had a "job" that was so active in my whole life!! If I can just keep high fat foods outta my mouth, I'll hit my goal just outta doing what I have to do and a little bit more. ;)

I log my steps on AOM (Americaonthemove.org). Started that in Feb. Did about 10,000 steps a day for the first two weeks, then went up to 15,000 steps a day for the last two weeks, trying to rev up my metabolism more. When I had a desk job, I couldn't have gotten in as many miles. But when I did manage a dual-physician office a few years ago, I stayed in the office for lunch, ate a can of soup and water, and walked 1.5 miles up and down the hallways. LOL. (Lost 30 lbs. that way for my high school reunion, but after the reunion was a blast, yep, gained it all back and more.. it sucks) So now since I kept having to walk an extra hour at night to hit my 15K a day, I am doing 12,000+ miles a day for the first two weeks this month. I'll see how that feels.

I think you have to get creative nowadays to get any physical activity in! It's sorta sad, we all wanted things to be easier, hence the creation of the automatic washing machine, cars, dishwashers, etc. But what has that done? It's made it where we have more time to do things that aren't as active. And we are paying for it now. Ah well, things'll change. :D

Sherrita 03-03-2005 11:16 AM

Amazing! I got a little dizzy reading that, Selina! You keep up the great work! Don't forget to pamper yourself once in a while!

fma4mom 03-03-2005 11:24 AM

Good morning ladies! Well I still have yet to get any walking in but the baby just went to sleep so it's time to slap on the pedometer -- I WILL get my 10,000 steps in today! I WILL, I WILL!

I'll check back in with you ladies in a bit. Have a wonderful day! :D

cathyxxx 03-04-2005 09:20 AM

I got up REAL EARLY and did a 60 minute 4 mile WATP Express dvd before getting cleaned up for work.

fma4mom 03-04-2005 05:29 PM

Just a quick post as I have to get ready for tonight -- I am finally going out with my girls! It's been over a year because of the pregnancy! So woo hoo!! Husband is staying home to take care of the baby -- his first time alone for a long period of time. I think he can handle it. :D Anyway just wanted to post that I finally got some walking in today! I did 4 miles!! So only 27 left for the month -- of course we want to go over that though.

Great job everyone!! Have a productive weekend, I'm sure I'll pop back in at some point. :p

macdeez 03-04-2005 07:16 PM

Just wanted to quickly post, yup, I managed to get the 4 intended miles in this afternoon! So I'm up to 12! Gonna shoot for another 4 tomorrow... and maybe Sunday too. We'll have to see. :)

Take care, ladies! Have a wonderful weekend!

cathyxxx 03-05-2005 12:09 PM

I'm excited this morning - Last week I upped my armour to 3 grains a day - 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, bec we are mainly treating my symptoms and my hair is still failing out and a few things like that. I haven't lost any weight since Nov 20 when I finally got that dang scale down to 196 (13 lbs lost since treating my thyroid) and basically I've been fighting the same 2 lbs back and forth thru the holidays - and got it back down to the 196 the end of January (have you noticed it takes me forever to lose a pound) Well ......... this morning I got on the scale and it said 195!!!!!!! I have finally lost another pound - one solid pound - got on and off the scale several times just to make sure.

So that's 14 lbs down in a little over a year. Slow and steady wins the race - right?

I will fix my signature when I have a minute.

I am cleaning house today and it will take all day - that is for sure - so that's my exercise for today!

hope everyone has a great day!

hugs,
cathy

cathyxxx 03-06-2005 12:19 PM

good morning gang!

I did a 60 minute 4 mile WATP express dvd first thing this morning.
March Miles = 12

cathy

Soon2BFitChick 03-06-2005 10:49 PM

Hey there!

Just wanted to say hello. I walked 2 hours this a.m., and it was sorta drizzling too. Now that is some determination for ya. LOL. I only get the chance to go to the track when my husband is home, two days a week or so, in the mornings. So a little rain wasn't gonna scare me off. :D I got in about 6 miles. So that was good. So far this month I have done what I wanted to.. at least 12,000 steps a day. It'll total less than last month, but that was just too much I believe. So this is still better than the recommended 10,000 a day.

You all are doing very well I see!! I love it! :cp: Keep it up!!

Sherri, ty. I do try to soak in the tub when I get the chance and I go alone sometimes to have coffee and browse books cuz I love bookstores! ;)

Kendrea, I love seeing your little one on here! How cute! Love that you're using your pedometer! Hope you had great fun with your girls too!

WTG, Cathy! You're on a roll! You'll surpass ur goal I bet! Yay on the 14 lbs. too! Also, I love Prevention. I just subscribed to it. I also got the Weight Watcher mag too! Love it.

Mel! I love that spring is almost here too! Yay! All the cute pastel outfits on racks now. Just teasing me bc I don't wanna buy anything bc they get loose in two months! I've set up my machine, and I'm actually sewing up my clothes this week. Just did two pairs of jeans. I'm gonna make these work til at least summer. I might get one new outfit per size but that will be it! Oh and I'm doing better with my water since now I ONLY drink water.. which isn't so fun but is better for me so hey, there are worse things that could happen to me. :o

Take care everyone and have a great week~ Hugs!

bubbins 03-06-2005 11:58 PM

Hi everyone,
I just stumbled on this thread and I would love to join you.
I usually walk on the treadmill at work during the week. This is just the thing I need to up the time on that, I'm usually only it for about 30-35 minutes.
My goal starting Monday for the month of March is 20 miles.

Macon 03-07-2005 09:13 AM

Hi everyone!
I have been MIA because we have had guest in town.

Selena - Running after children is certainly good exercise and good for you for getting in the extra steps. Thanks for the moivation!

Hi Bubbins - Welcome!

Cathy - :cheer: Congrats on loosing the pound! That is great!

Kendrea - I hope you had a great time at your girls night out!

Mel - you are off to a great start this month - way to go!!

Sherrita - I hope you are doing well!

I tried to wear my pedometer these past few days but my littel neice was visting and once she spied it, she wanted it for the day so, while I have been active, I am starting fresh today in terms of counting. So, I am off and moving!

cathyxxx 03-07-2005 10:26 AM

Selina! - congrats :cp: you are doing great! walkin in the rain ought to count for double don't ya think ;) I also subscribe to the Weight Watcher magazine. Sounds like you and I like the same health magazines!

Welcome Tasha - it's great to have ya here. I do some walking on a treadmill too. If I don't get in my walking in the mornings before work, then I go to a near by church gym during lunch and walk their track or on a treadmill.

Hey Macon - I tried to wear my pedometer on Saturday when I cleaned house for 6 hours. I figure I probably walk about 2 miles doing that, but I want to wear my pedometer to know for sure, but the dang thing gets in my way or catches or something and I end up just taking it off so I can clean like I need to. great to see ya!

I got up early and did a 30 minute 2 miles WATP Express with 2 lb weights.
March Miles = 14

hope everyone has a blessed day!

hugs,
cathy

cathyxxx 03-07-2005 10:31 AM

hey gang - since we're talking about magazines.... the 3rd issue of the new YOUR DIET mag hits stands today. I got the first 2 issues and really liked the mag. I will be running out and looking for this new issue when I get a minute.

"The New YOUR DIET Hits Stands Today!
The new issue of the world's coolest diet mag hits stands today. Issue number 3 of Your Diet has finally arrived. You remember this mag, people. It's from the people who bring us People Magazine. (Ok, we're through saying "people.") This latest issue is packed with recipes, inspiring stories, gorgeous photos, and even has a two page feature on Guilt-Free Snacking written by Hungry Girl herself. Weeeee! Your Diet isn't on a set publishing schedule yet so we're not sure when the next issue will come out. But this new one is out NOW. Don't miss it!"

shoequeen69 03-07-2005 12:41 PM

Hey all. I haven't checked in for a while. Sounds like you're all doing great! Good for you Cathy! I enjoy prevention too. I can't believe I haven't read mine yet! Usually I attack it and read it cover to cover. I am intrigued about this walking article they have. Haven't heard of YOUR DIET mag. Will have to check it out.

Well I got in 2 miles yesterday at the Grapevine Mills Mall. Very proud of it. Then watched a movie. tee hee.

I think I gained a few pounds though from all that I ate during the weekend (pizza, shared a fudge brownie sundae-ugh!). Going to walk at lunch with a friend from work. Hey, can you pedometer users tell me what brand you have and maybe where you got them? I'd like to get a really good accurate one (not the free McDonalds one I have. haha). Thanks!

Sherrita 03-07-2005 06:09 PM

Got 2 miles in today. March miles: 10

fma4mom 03-07-2005 08:33 PM

Just a quick post as my son has just woke up! I got in 4 miles today. Woo hoo. I hope to keep this up for the rest of the week!!

Selina -- When you walk 10,000 steps, how many miles does your pedometer read? Just wondering if mine is registering right. I bought a cheapo at WalMart but I have a "better" one that I may switch to.

Great job ladies! I will post more tomorrow..... :D

macdeez 03-08-2005 02:23 AM

Got another 8mi in over the weekend plus an hour at the gym. :) Pretty happy with that. Haven't been sleeping too well the last week or so though, really makes it hard to stay motivated throughout the day. Yesterday we took DD to a culinary convention and by 2:30 I was seriously dragging my tail. Blargh.

Anyways, ladies, I promise to post to each of you tomorrow sometime. I need to try and get some shut-eye!

Keep up the fantastic work... ALL of you! You're doing AMAZING! :D

Best wishes!

~mel

Macon 03-08-2005 08:45 AM

Mel - 8 miles is great! Walking around a convention would certainly add up.

Amy - A movie is a great reward - what a good idea! What did you see? I am currently using a Sportline pedometer that I got a Target. They have a lot of price ranges - mine was maybe $35. It does steps, miles (or km), and calories (which I never use). I had one before that was from the Walking Company. That one was great and very accurate (I can not remember the brand). I occasionally test this one and it seems to be pretty accurate.

Kendrea - Congrats on the 4 miles!

Sherrita - you are so good about being consistent and you are already up to 10 miles!

Cathy - I have never even seen that magazine. I will look for it! I use to get so many mags that I would rarely read them so I have cut back. I do like prevention and it is small so I can take it places when I might have a few minutes to read.

Hoe is everyone else doing?

I got in my 10,000 steps yesterday and did 45 minutes of resistance training this morning. I just want it to get warm - where is spring?? It is so much easier when it is nice out!

Have a great day!

Sherrita 03-08-2005 10:44 AM

Got up early and did 3 miles this morning. March miles: 13

I've been thinking about getting a pedometer. I go back to Indiana tomorrow and start work Monday. I'm constantly running around at work, so I'm kind of curious how many steps I get in during a shift. Guess I'll find out. :)

Keep up the great work everybody!

fma4mom 03-08-2005 10:51 AM

How many of you use pedometers? I didn't realize it was a few of us -- could you tell me how many miles you get when you do 10,000 on yours. I'm curious to see how "accurate" they are.

So far today I've gotten in 4,000 steps. I try to walk when my son is asleep which is on and off. :D

shoequeen69 03-08-2005 10:59 AM

Hi all. I got in 1/2 a mile yesterday at lunch and then a mile at the park after work. It was a bit breezy but I'm so glad I did it. I'm aiming to get another 1/2 at lunch today at least.

Macon - Thanks for the pedometer advice! :D We saw "The Jacket" as our post-walk treat ;) . Have you seen the promos about it? It was very good, very intense and interesting. I left the theater thinking about how they did that. Hmmm. ;) haha

Hope you're all doing well. Come on spring! :sunny:

Soon2BFitChick 03-08-2005 06:39 PM

Heyyyy.. I show about 2110 per mile on mine. This one is more expensive.. I like the 7.00 Walmart ones just as well. This one had me measure out my stride and put that in too b4hand. I am doing 12,000 a day.. lately its been hard bc of all the cooking, washing dishes, and paperwork that u really can't walk doing. While things cook, I try to pace tho. So that said, I gotta go walk! I am gonna jog and watch TV after I walk around my kitchen table and fol 5 loads of clothes that are there! It's 5:35 pm and I am only at 4500 steps! I need 7500 more! This happens to me alot.. so I spend like two hours watching TV late at night while walking in place or whatever. I simply HAVE to stay on track.. I really want to be a size 14 this summer. :( I am sorry I can't say more now.. I'm swamped! Hugs to you all.. I'll write again soon.
