Question about elipticals

  • Does anyone have an eliptical machine at home? What is a good kind to buy? I have tried one at the local Y and like it. I have bad knees and it is said that these are easier on the knees.

Thanks for any information you can give.
  • I've heard that about the knees too, Gayle. I know it's hard on my knees to go backwards. All in all, I quite like mine.
  • I have an Orbitrek Plattinum and I LOVE IT!!

Its kinda different from gym ellipticals... almost like riding a bike standing up. Takes a while to get use to, but I am so glad I spent the 200 bucks!
  • I got a Diamondback 700 back in March. I use it everyday I can, and have lost a little over 25 pounds since then. Right now it's the only think keeping me in shape considering how I've been eating! It was pricey, but well worth every cent. I test rode a million of them before getting the Diamondback. I'd just suggest that take one on a mini test workout before buying. I don't have bad knees, but I'm not sure I have good ones either, and I haven't had a problem with it. As to ChristinaMarie's post, a lot of the machines sold in stores seem to be the standing bike vs. an elliptical like the gym has. I was used to what I was using at the gym, but it might just be personal preference.
  • I have precore I bought several years ago and it has held up well. The life cycle is the other bran the gyms have with the arms on it. I would recomend you get the best one you can afford, try it amd make sure it has a smooth motion. some of the lesser brands can be a little jerky so it before you buy it. I suggest you go to the store in comfortable cloths and give it a good 10 min. try. The stores expect it...
    good luck.
