Did you run today?
Did you run today?
Saturday 25th April, 100 years since the Anzacs arrived at Gallipoli, I was on the beach to see the sun rise out of the ocean. After reciting the poem for the fallen to the rising sun, I ran for 1 hour 40 minutes. No idea of the distance though...just along the beach and back. :D So did YOU run today? Auto. |
I did! Well, mostly walked. But did my run/walk intervals. Just 3 miles around Lake Hollywood but made it through! All before 7 am :D
|
Yes! 7 miles. Done. :carrot:
|
Veg traveller! Well done! I'm so proud of you!
Krazy, pleased to meet you. Where do you run? |
Yep, 5.5 miles.
|
Quote:
Awesome that you're getting back out again. How is it feeling? |
As it happens, I ran 1 hr and 40 min as well. It was 8 miles, which is the longest run I've had since coming back to running in Oct. 2014. :)
|
Yep. The day had a y in it so I ran 5.5 miles in 50 minutes.
|
It looks like there are a great group of regular runners here :)
I like Ian..."day had a y in it so I ran"! Do you run every day Ian? Are you a streak runner? I have done a 50 day streak in the past just for fun, but dropped it when I had an overseas trip, I ran on my trip, just not every day. this morning it is pouring with rain, like someone is emptying buckets over the house, I shall have a cuppa and see if it eases up...if not, off I go anyway! Auto |
Yes, I do try to run every day or 6 out of every 7. When I travel overseas I either plan running routes in advance or link up with a local running club.
Today I ran 4 miles with friends. My favorite kind of running. I do not run in heavy rain. On those days I find a treadmill. |
I ran in the rain! I enjoy it in a perverse sort of way, at least afterwards when I get into a hot shower!
I don't have access to a treadmill, so it is get out whatever the weather, or take a rest day. I do that if it is really icy because I am afraid of falling and injuring myself. |
4 miles along the National Mall.
|
Yes! I'm not quite sure how far, though. When I looked at my running app, my track made me look like a drunk person! It was all over the place. I've never have that happen before. And then I almost got hit by a car. Great run. :halfempty
autodidact - Good for you for running in the rain. I would sooner stay in bed and just hit the gym later. IanG - Are the cherry blossoms still out? Must be a beautiful run. |
This thread is seriously motivational. I have to talk myself into the four days a week that I run, haha!
|
I walked today. A lovely cold autumn morning. Bonnie and I walked about 10km along the estuary. Her stitches come out tomorrow and I am planning where we will run together.
|
3.25 mile tempo run today.
|
My dad texted me this morning and told me he saw two whales on his 19 mile (geez) run.
I texted him back to let him know I saw a homeless man doing drugs and a dead bird. #laproblems I WISH I COULD RUN BY THE BEACH EVERY DAY. |
4 miles with friends in the glorious weather. The cherry blossom is past its peak but there is still blossom on the trees.
|
Oh yes! 8 km trail run, including the trip down east side trail into Bowenvale...which means the climb back out again!
It feels so good to be back on the trails, but I'm so unfit, I can't believe it. I walked the up hills, ran the downs and the flats. But I'm back running and soon I'll be running uphill too! |
I did run yesterday!! Friends and I started run/walking Tues, Thurs, Sun, just run 1, walk 1... Feels so good... We do the gym Mon, Wed, Sat... So run/walking is a perfect compliment...
|
4 miles last night with beer and buddies.

Hi all!
I've seen this thread and I have to say it has inspired me. I've been trying to get myself back into running and it's taking a bit longer than I'd like... kind of like my weight loss... Anyway, a little background... I guess you would say I was a fairly serious "runner"... I ran x-country in H.S. and college and I use to run and race for club in NYC... I ran fairly competitively... My PR's were sub 19:00 minutes for 5k's and sub 38:00 minutes for 10k's... And my half marathon PR was 1:25... I've only run 2 marathons... The New York City Marathon and the Philadelphia Marathon, both awesome experiences... I also got into triathlons and even did an Ironman... I did Ironman USA in Lake Placid... It was a long day, but I did finish... So that's a 2.4 mi swim, a 112 mi bike, and 26.2mi run... My marathon "split" was 5:29, so that really was a very long day... So here I am just wanting to get back into running because I truly do love it... And this week I've managed to get out twice so far... I'm not back to full "running" just yet, but I've been covering about 6 mi out and back on one of my favorite trails that I used to run all the time... And I was truly amazed by how "light" on my feet I still felt... So who knows, but I think I see a running "comeback" in my future... ;) |
I did run yesterday, on the treadmill since it was supposed to storm (it didn't, go figure). More than I should have considering I have my 5K race on Saturday, but I had to prove to myself that I could still do it. My head has been convincing my body it is not capable of things.
Resting today! Race tomorrow! Pizza tonight! Nom nom nom (no worries, small homemade pizza! but there will be bacon...) autodidact - Any tips for someone wanting to make the transition to trail running? I have shoes already (I use trail runners for regular hiking and I've run in them comfortably). Just afraid of falling on my face...:o IanG - Do you run to the bar, drink, and run home? :dizzy: |
Ooh, a running thread! Good motivation. I'm running a trail 50K next weekend; I've trained somewhat but not as rigorously as I've done for prior marathons. So I'm not too optimistic, but the time cut-off is generous so I can afford to walk a fair amount.
NNS: Kill it on your 5K! Also, I wear regular running shoes for trail running (which is all I do now); my trail running shoes are annoyingly wide in the toe box and they seem to make me trip more. And yes, we all bite it now and then when running trails. But your knees will thank you for leaving the pavement behind! And falling on dirt, even hard-packed dirt, rarely leaves more than a scrape. |
NNS Good luck tomorrow!!
|
New runners on the thread! Hello everyone!
NNS...good luck for the 5km. Let us know how it goes. Ilene.....walk 1 run 1 is a great place to start. It only gets better from here :) Jay...a trail 50! I can't wait to hear how it goes, good luck with the training. NNS.....trail running. I run in altra Lone Peaks if it is not too muddy and my trusty Inov8's when it is. I feel much more secure in trail shoes, and fall less. Yes, fall....I have fallen lots of times including right off the edge of the trail into a tree on the Mt Oxford race! In trail running, it's not 'if' you fall but 'when'! As I started running at 49 and trails at 50, and was overweight, I was very scared of falling. After I had fallen a few times I didn't worry so much. I am still very careful on wet rocks, and I don't fly downhill like the youngsters do, and I walk if I am worried, but I still enjoy it so much. It's worse when you are tired, as you don't lift you feet so much and you tend to trip over sticks and rocks. But falling is part of trail running. However my balance has got MUCH better and I don't fall nearly as much I have just re read this and it seems like I spend my life face down in the mud! It's not that bad but if you run trails you will fall sooner or later. To get started pick easy trails around the edges of local parks etc and then pick up the technicality. Run short technical (steep, rocky) trails first so you are not too tired. You can always run out and back if the loops are too far at first Have fun :) And I didn't run yesterday, I walked 10km though. |
4.5 miles, alone. Up and down hills.
Quote:
Run another 1-2 miles. And drink more from the van. Sometimes the police bust us. And we run away! Then (optional) go to a bar. At least that is how it works in DC. In the UK, we would run from a bar and return to the bar. |
I'm laughing at Ian running from the police when drunk....can you run straight!?!
I did NOT run yesterday, I didn't even walk! I did however visit A and E twice, once with my own son, with a burn to his arm....you would think an 18 year old boy could use a kitchen grill safely, wouldn't you? He's fine though, just a burn to his arm. Then again with a neighbour boy. His mum is an intensive care nurse and was at work. He is 18 as well and was home with his 14 year old sister. Sister phones me worried...I take one look and back off to A and E we go, where his mum meets me. He got kicked in the face at soccer practice. He had concussion, a fractured cheekbone and a cut by his eye requiring 6 stitches..... Here's hoping for a better day today. I am just waiting for hubby to get ready and we are off up the hills again. As long as the neighbourhood boys can manage to look after themselves for an hour or two I should get a run shortly! Auto |
Crazy!

And.....YES- i did run today for 50 minutes- it was after a 26 hour fasting period...which made it a very grueling run...but I definitely felt good and proud of myself when it was all said and done! yay me! -Daniela |
Quote:
All that running I did was a few years ago now... And I did put on a lot of weight since then... BUT 50lbs gone so far!!! and only a few more to go... Now I'm really just looking forward to settling in an enjoying the "ride"... :D |
Hi daniela. Gosh, running after fasting, that at sounds HARD! Was there a reason for that or did it just work out that way?
Tripswitch, how long have you been out of running? And why did you stop? Your times are amazing, also Ironman! I am in awe of triathletes :) do you plan on going back into triathalons or stick with running? Yes, I ran Sunday. 2 hours on trails in the hills. I walked the up hills through. It will be a few weeks before I am fit enough to run them. This run would have taken maybe 1:15 to 1:20 when I was fit, so I still have a way to go. However it's like weight loss, keep at it and you will get there :) |
Quote:
And it's funny, I really thought I had absolutely no desire to do another Ironman, but recently I thought to myself "Oh, wouldn't it be nice to do another one and beat my time to prove that I was still "fit"..." Sort of a silly idea really... But sometimes that's how it starts... lol... :dizzy: But actually what I really want to do is run another marathon... Just for fun... A cool "destination" one... Actually there is a "club" for runners who have run a marathon on every continent... And I've always thought that sounded like a pretty amazing thing to do.... Of course Antartica would be the tough one... Don't know about that one for me... But hey I'd settle for six continents and since I've already got North America covered... Only 5 more to go! :D |
6 miles today.
My right foot keeps giving me a fit ( blister on the side of the big toe joint. I'm changing my lacing pattern, wearing running socks, tried band aids, moleskin padding, body glide, Vaseline, nothing seems to help. I'm thinking about ditching the orthotic because I'm already up a whole shoe size and I can't seem to get a shoe that will accomodate them and my toes. I'm going to have to figure something out because not running isn't an option. |
Yes. A 6 mile hash run. With shiggy. And beer.
And yes autodidact, I can run straight while drunk. It actually does make a workout harder. But also more fun! I love running with other people. |
I envy you guys who can run! My knee still tells me to "f' off whenever I try. :(. I'll cheer you runners on though!
|
Thanks for the encouragement guys! My 5K went awesome on Saturday. I beat my best time by about 3 minutes! Crazy. A coworker ran with me most of the time which is probably the only reason I did so well (and she didn't do as well as she could have!). Makes me think I would really benefit from a running buddy, but I'll probably wait to find someone until after we move.
Haven't run since Saturday. Did some serious heavy yard work yesterday so I let myself sleep in today. Will run tomorrow morning :) autodidact - Thanks for the trail running tips. I guess I'll just have to give it a try and be ready to fall lol |
STRUDEL: I would try ditching the orthotics and see what happens. I have a duff left leg, not all of the tendons work ( I was in an accident) and I find it better to run without supports than with. Before running and overweight I needed a stick for walking much of the time....
NNS: CONGRATULATIONS on the 5km PB!! Way to go! NICKI: hi there. Does you knee let you walk? It's as good as running, just slower. SUNDAY : ran hills for 2 hours with ultra running hubby. He has a knee injury and wanted to go slow so ran with me. I walked the up hills, ran the flats and downs. Hubby barely broke a sweat but I was working HARD. MONDAY: stiff from Sunday so just walked 7km. |
TRIPSWITCH: what a great idea running a marathon on all the continents! Instead of Antartica how about the Christchurch marathon here in NZ? We have all the Antarctic bases here. The Americans have a base at the airport, and they fly from there. Also the Britts fly out from Christchurch. It's not quite the same but much more practical. This year the marathon is back in the city for the first time since the 2011 quakes. It's held the first weekend in June. Maybe we should run it together in 2016... It's a bit short notice for this year! It's not quite the furthest south before hitting Antartica though as there is a marathon in Dunedin too, and that's even further south. It has a very short time cut off though, so it's a bit scary.

4 miles before lunch with a friend.

No beer? ;)
