Hi daniela. Gosh, running after fasting, that at sounds HARD! Was there a reason for that or did it just work out that way?

Tripswitch, how long have you been out of running? And why did you stop? Your times are amazing, also Ironman! I am in awe of triathletes :) do you plan on going back into triathalons or stick with running?

Yes, I ran Sunday. 2 hours on trails in the hills. I walked the up hills through. It will be a few weeks before I am fit enough to run them. This run would have taken maybe 1:15 to 1:20 when I was fit, so I still have a way to go. However it's like weight loss, keep at it and you will get there :)

Hi autodidact... I haven't run " competively" in almost 7 years... But I have been running "fun" runs and races like 5k's to 10 mile trail races... Between my career and family I just sort of slipped away from it... Not to mention my weight being all over the place the last several years too...

And it's funny, I really thought I had absolutely no desire to do another Ironman, but recently I thought to myself "Oh, wouldn't it be nice to do another one and beat my time to prove that I was still "fit"..." Sort of a silly idea really... But sometimes that's how it starts... lol... :dizzy:

But actually what I really want to do is run another marathon... Just for fun... A cool "destination" one... Actually there is a "club" for runners who have run a marathon on every continent... And I've always thought that sounded like a pretty amazing thing to do.... Of course Antartica would be the tough one... Don't know about that one for me... But hey I'd settle for six continents and since I've already got North America covered... Only 5 more to go! :D

6 miles today.

My right foot keeps giving me a fit ( blister on the side of the big toe joint. I'm changing my lacing pattern, wearing running socks, tried band aids, moleskin padding, body glide, Vaseline, nothing seems to help.

I'm thinking about ditching the orthotic because I'm already up a whole shoe size and I can't seem to get a shoe that will accomodate them and my toes.

I'm going to have to figure something out because not running isn't an option.

Yes. A 6 mile hash run. With shiggy. And beer.

And yes autodidact, I can run straight while drunk. It actually does make a workout harder. But also more fun!

I love running with other people.

I envy you guys who can run! My knee still tells me to "f' off whenever I try. :(. I'll cheer you runners on though!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! My 5K went awesome on Saturday. I beat my best time by about 3 minutes! Crazy. A coworker ran with me most of the time which is probably the only reason I did so well (and she didn't do as well as she could have!). Makes me think I would really benefit from a running buddy, but I'll probably wait to find someone until after we move.

Haven't run since Saturday. Did some serious heavy yard work yesterday so I let myself sleep in today. Will run tomorrow morning :)

autodidact - Thanks for the trail running tips. I guess I'll just have to give it a try and be ready to fall lol

STRUDEL: I would try ditching the orthotics and see what happens. I have a duff left leg, not all of the tendons work ( I was in an accident) and I find it better to run without supports than with. Before running and overweight I needed a stick for walking much of the time....

NNS: CONGRATULATIONS on the 5km PB!! Way to go!

NICKI: hi there. Does you knee let you walk? It's as good as running, just slower.

SUNDAY : ran hills for 2 hours with ultra running hubby. He has a knee injury and wanted to go slow so ran with me. I walked the up hills, ran the flats and downs. Hubby barely broke a sweat but I was working HARD.

MONDAY: stiff from Sunday so just walked 7km.

TRIPSWITCH: what a great idea running a marathon on all the continents! Instead of Antartica how about the Christchurch marathon here in NZ? We have all the Antarctic bases here. The Americans have a base at the airport, and they fly from there. Also the Britts fly out from Christchurch. It's not quite the same but much more practical. This year the marathon is back in the city for the first time since the 2011 quakes. It's held the first weekend in June. Maybe we should run it together in 2016... It's a bit short notice for this year! It's not quite the furthest south before hitting Antartica though as there is a marathon in Dunedin too, and that's even further south. It has a very short time cut off though, so it's a bit scary.

I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! And this I why I really love 3fc... I'm always finding out new stuff here... I swear, honestly I would have never have thought about doing one in NZ... What a great idea... It funny though, back when I was doing triathlons I did daydream about doing the Ironman there... So Actually my plan was to do the Buenos Aires marathon to cross off South America and figured that would be as far south as I would go too... But since I have to hit Australia I guess I should see if I could work NZ into it somehow... I guess I'm going to have to get busy and do some googling... Lol...

And the good news is a managed to get 6mi in today on one of my favorite rail trails... But boy was it warm out today, so my plan is to start getting out really early from now on...

nonameslob 05-05-2015 09:37 AM

2 miles this morning!

No more running the morning after a 500 calorie day though (I follow 5:2). I can run after a 12ish hour fast no problem, but after 36 hours with only 500 calories it is a bit rough. I think my Tuesdays and Fridays will be reserved for strength or cross training in the evenings.

Question for the masses - Do any of you incorporate HIIT in your running program? I'd like to add this in once or twice a week since I'm not training for races anymore and would like to focus on fat loss. I need to find my watch!

TripSwitch - I started running in the mornings for that reason, but even this morning at 7AM it was still quite warm here. Ugh. I don't want to have to get up even earlier!

3fcuser1058250 05-05-2015 09:55 AM

Forgot to report in on Sunday... We did 5k...

Tonight probably more of the same :D ... I love running, even if we don't run fast
