Default Calves HURT!!! (When running)

I've been doing the c25k program and am on week 2, I used to run quite a bit. I'm not sure now why my calves hurt so bad now. They actually hurt more on the walk breaks then when I'm actually running. I don't think I'm dehydrated and I'm not doing more than the program calls for.

Any ideas?

I would not worry about it if it is your calve muscles and not your ankle joints.

I often get sore calves if: i) I am running hills; or ii) I am bouncing along on the balls of my feet.

I can also get sore ankle joints with these as well, which is a more serious issue.

To fix sore calves, I would make sure you stretch well after a run. And I swear by fish oil (or eating oily fish) which helps reduce inflammation and lowers recovery time (at least for me and I run daily).

It's OK to end a run with sore calves but unpleasant to start a run with them.

If you get them mid-run, I find slowing down helps as does trying to run more "flat-footed".

I'll try that, it's like I have huge hard rocks for caves sometimes.
