Default Pre-race jitters

I am doing the Warrior Dash tomorrow and I have butterflies in my stomach. It is not my first race and I know I feel this way at least a week before every race, but it doesn't get any easier. I want to back out. I am dreading the early morning drive and the mud at the end of the race. I hope my adrenaline will start pumping when I sign in but ugh! I hate this pre-race feeling.

I have never run (or walked) a race but it's people like you that inspire me to keep working towards it. I hope you do it and post about it but that's just me being selfish! I'll be rooting for you miles and miles away!!

I'm kinda bossy like that!!

And I use all kinds of 3FC examples in my daily life like I really "know" you all. When I'm doing Week 9 Day 1 of C25K on Monday and wanting to die, I'll say to myself "ImImportant ran a race on Saturday that she was nervous about. If she can do it, I can do it too." So yep, now you have to do the race so I can borrow you for my inspiration and motivation on Monday.

I pretty much just race for fun these days... so I don't put too much pressure on myself and I just go for the sense of accomplishment that I still like from "racing"... and when I say I don't put too much pressure on myself... I mean it... I'll even make a little "mental" agreement with myself... and I'll tell myself if I'm "not feeling it" for whatever reason during the race that I'll drop out if I want to... and that helps me put the whole thing into perspective... and then that usually helps me to relax about the whole situation and I'm basically OK... since once the gun goes off and I just "settle in" I'm fine... and I've never actually dropped out...

And as far as the day before... I do my best to stay off my feet as much as possible... and just take it easy... I like to do my best to take my mind off of the "race" by doing something distracting like watching some sort of light-hearted movie or something like that...

Good Luck!

As I stood in line waiting for the gun to go off last week for my first 1/2, I was nervous but I was also crashing - what the **** am I doing here is what I was thinking. I was dreading even starting.

And then I did it! Wait until you cross the finish line - there is no high like it!

You will be awesome and soooooo proud of yourself! Good luck and I can't wait to hear a race report!!

OMG I understand you SO MUCH : I am doing a Spart Race Sprint (which looks a lot alike the Warrior Dash) in exactly 9 days and I am already nervous/terrified.

I'd say that I get the ''omg what have I doooone'' feeling, wanting to back out, until I stand at the starting line and they are about to launch the thing. In the end it's the people around me that get me excited, but it happens at the very last moment.

Like you, I've done other races before but this one is making me feel SO NERVOUS. I'm not muscular and not strong AT ALL, I'm afraid I'll have to do tons of burpees if I can't go through the obstacles...

I can't wait to hear about your race though, I'm sure you'll KILL THIS THING (and maybe that will help soothing out my anxiety )

GOOD LUCK! Have fun!!!

I'll be rooting for you all the way from the eastern tip of the continent! People like you are what keep me motivated....I've never run as much as a 5K but hearing stories from people who've run their first (or second, or tenth!) race helps me realize that I can do it, too.

Good luck! Run like you stole something!

Thank you all! The jitters went away as soon as I started the race. The obstacles were much more challenging than last year. I completed the course and I have my medal! Thanks for the encouragement.

TurboMammoth you will rock that race! Have fun and let us know how it goes.

I know you are nervous but I'm excited for you!! I did one 5K before I got pregnant, and I was Sooooooo nervous. But it was great finishing. I can't run now, so I'm living through everyone else! lol! So I'll be looking forward to hearing how it went tomorrow. You know once you get running you'll be fine. The whole race atmosphere is so exciting!!

You'll be fine. And the mud--believe it or not--is very refreshing. Just think of it as a mud bath--very good for your skin.--ha.ha.
