Default Is this enough?

I'm so out of shape
I'm going running every day and just manage to run for 5 minutes, at 6 mph, I can't even run 1 mile, but that's the only exercise I do
Do you think is enough?

I can't say if it's "enough", but I can commend you for your effort! At my size, running is HARD. I cannot even run for 5 minutes straight, two minutes maybe. I've had some good loss with it though, walking and intermittent running combined with tracking my calories on MFP. One day at a time, looks like you are doing awesome already!

I'm not sure if it's enough either but wanted to commend you for trying! I just started the Couch to 5K training so it incorporates walking and running with a timer so you know when to start and when to stop. Have you thought about something like that? It's not as hard as I thought it was going to be (but I heard it gets harder! I'm only on Week 3 Day 2). I never ran more than 2 feet in my life, now I'm up to 3 minutes at a time.

Yes, but I really find it kind of boring because I know I can run more than 1 min so I get frustrared to stop :/

I am not a fan of running - my knees, ankles, shins, and back kills after an actual run. So, I walk. I started at 5 minutes, downloaded some weight loss podcasts onto my iPod, and just kept walking. I got all the way up to 60 minutes and on higher inclines (the 2nd cross country setting I think).

I recommend not running, but walking. Adjust the incline, try a few different settings. My average speed was 3.0-3.4 mph. The point of weight loss is to keep up your heart rate up for X amount of time. And, to cut the boredom, listen to podcasts, audiobooks, whatever. When I listened to a podcast, I was aware of the time frame, so I knew that it would hold my interest for 35-60 minutes. When I worked out at home, I have a playlist of songs to help me time my workouts.

So, is it enough? It sounds like even 5 minutes of running is tiring. I would try walking and see what the different settings can do for you. For me, it really toned my thighs, hips, and butt. It also helped my balance and posture - just by walking.

Hope this helps

First off, I'm going to agree with a bunch of other people, running for 5 minutes at a time is awesome. I can't wait to do that. I'm doing C25K as well, and can barely finish the 3 minute intervals. When I was at my biggest and first started running at 220, I couldn't even do 1 minute.

Having said that if 5 minutes of running is truly the only exercise you get that is not enough. You just aren't doing it for long enough to get a good burn, you're probably burning 120 calories max, at your size. I'd recommend trying to do something that you could do for longer, even if it means power walking at 4.5 for 45 minutes. My C25K is my 'short' exercise because at the moment I'm only actually running for 10 minutes so I bike for an hour and triple my calories burned compared to C25K (in double the time).

You also could try doing a C25K app, or something similar with interval training to have a steady increase in running time. You don't have to start off at week 1 if you know you can do more. I'm on my 4th try and I've only started off at week 1 my first go around.

Well, first I do a brisk walk for about 5 minutes, then I run 5 minutes and the rest of the time I just walk, for a total of 30 min

i cant run for very long at a time either...but if i can run for one minute, then i'll walk and do it again, then walk and do it again, repeat 20 times or whatever i'm aiming for...right now i do HIIT intervals because they are short and i can handle that....my top speed right now is running 8.1mph but i can only sustain that for a brief interval...it's effective though
