Ncunceo - CONGRATS!!! Even if the marathon didn't go your way, you still completed one which puts you in a very elite category...then you did ANOTHER which puts you in an even more elite category that 99% of people really can't do - so no matter what - well done!
Deva - that's strange w/ your injury. For a little while I was having some trouble with the area behind my ankle to just under my calf - so I stretched my achilles more before running -static stretches - and it worked for me... Jogged to the gym last night and back .95 miles each way - I did this with a backpack though and that made it SO much harder!!! Did a bunch of sprints in my kickboxing class as well so I'd guesstimate about 2.5 - 2.75 total last night - plus my kickbox class so I'm happy. Going to try to get out tonight and run the course for my 3.5 mile Central Park race next Wed. I've found that I do a lot better during a race when I've already run the course before- I guess I know what to expect so I can talk myself through it more... |
TurboMammoth, I ended up going to the gym Monday. I ran 15 minutes on the treadmill, 12 minutes on the elliptical, 5 more treadmill minutes.
Yesterday I went to a park and ran for 50 minutes. Not terribly quickly - probably just under 5 miles. |
lm3898 : Knowing the course takes out a looooot of stress. Good move!
krampus : 50 minutes! that is awesome!!! *** I logged tonight a 10k in 1hour12min35sec with a collegue. It was a bit slow, I could have go faster, but I wanted to stick with her. But hey, a 10k is still a 10k, even if it's a slower 10k! |
Ran 6 at lunch today - felt really good and made it in 54:49. My goal is to be able to run a 10K in 54 minutes by September. We'll see.
4 miles in today I realized that 4 miles was so easy for me. 1 year ago 2 miles was next to impossible! |
Hit 4.5 miles tonight - funny I was psyched to run and it started off pretty bad, I had to PUSH to hit the 1st mile, it got better after that - added a 1/2 mile pure uphill at mile 2.5 so that felt great- glad I got it in. I'm told it was 9 min/miles from endomondo but it might have been 1/10th mile off so prob 9:15 or 9:10 sec. miles so that's fine - no more running til my 10k on Sunday.
Good worth turbo - you said it best, a 10k is a 10k!! Krampus 5 miles in 50 min def. not bad! |
Everyone is doing awesome keep on pushing on!
ME I am trying to stick to cardio and weights at home resting whatever the injury is as to not do long term damage IT IS KILLING ME!!!{not running NOT the issue} I am not sure the new shoe are going to work wore them to exercise class and for some reason it was making the bunion area by the big toe act up...and the shoe does not even push on that area???? Shoes have a really big toe box I am puzzled going to call running store and ask if they want me to run in them or bring them back first???{I am not trying running till next week} |
Ran 4 miles this morning and 2.5 miles yesterday. Slept really poorly for the past few nights and I think it helped make me slower. It was really hot here, though, and that made it hard to push through.
I did a spin class this morning a couple of hours after my run. Felt pretty good. This summer I'm going to try doing a spin class directly after my morning run on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We'll see how that goes. |
I started my new job two weeks ago and it's kicking my butt. It has turned out to be alot more physical then I expected. So, I haven't had a chance to run in awhile. My body is battered and bruised. Really! :( I think I need to increase my iron intake.
I am going to let my body adjust to going from a mostly sedentary job to being on my feet for 8 hours. Not sure how long it will take, listening to my body. I still have the desire to run, had every intention on going the other day but started falling asleep before 8! Happy running!!! |
8 miles this morning- longest run since surgery. I completed in 1:14:35 which is a 9:16 pace. Not bad, but I'm not sure I'll be able to run consistently under 9 minutes for my goal in September, but not bad for an old lady!

10k race this morning! Was worried b.c. I had to get up so early, then race was delayed an hour w/ no food or water and very hilly course but it was wonderful!!! Finished just under 54 min so about 8:40 miles I believe - so glad I've been doing hill training - everything just felt right!

I mean to join this thread every month and then for no reason never do, so this month I'm finally joining! I've been running since February, started with the C25K then have carried on from there. I do 3 miles 4-5 days a week, although today I am starting a new course in my neighborhood that makes it easy to add to my mileage. I actually think I would like to try a half marathon down the road, but I think I will hold off on that training until fall/winter when I am (hopefully) at my goal weight or at least very close.
I do have a general question about shoes. How often do most of you need to replace your shoes? Mine seriously are only lasting about 3 months right now. I have contributed some of it to my higher weight, especially when I started. I also wear my running shoes to walk everyday. I run 3 miles 4-5 days a week, walk 3 miles on my lunch breaks 5x a week, and 1-2 mile walks with my dog 6-7 days a week, so I'm putting 35-45 miles a week on them, all outside. I like getting new running shoes so it's not a huge problem to get new shoes every 3 months or so, it just seems like they should last longer. |
Ran 3 miles up, down and around a mountain near where I live with my bf the other day. Didn't time it. We were hung over and had to walk some but it was fun! Will do again this week!

Did my own triathalon today.......4mile RUN,10mile BIKE,then power CLEANED for 2hrs. Than slower cleaning rest of day..NOW out to dinner in town an hour awaay..YEAH
|
I'm now running routinely with a running group/team at my local fitness studio. It's really fun and seems to be helping me get faster. I have been chasing the fast ones for a short workout of around 3 miles twice a week. I run on my own the other days.
This morning, I ran about 10:30, which is a lot faster than I had been able to do previously (remember, I'm about 225lbs, which slows me down a lot, especially in this heat). I'm wondering what is possible? Training for a half-marathon in the fall. I've been losing about 1.5 lbs a week, which would put me at less than 200 lbs by the time I run it. Also working pretty hard at training. For people who were running and losing weight at the same time, how quick were your fitness gains? Did you get faster quickly? Seriously, last fall I couldn't run for more than a minute and now I can do 4 miles in a row and 6-7 with a few walk breaks. I ran my first 5k in 40 minutes in March. I now think I might be able to do something between 33 and 35 minutes this Sunday. I'm beginning to think it might be possible to run 8 or 9 minute miles at shorter distances by the fall. |
Just 4 miles taking it easy on my heels feet whatever still healing!
