5K post-ACL knee injury
I'm currently training for my 1st 5k. It's in 18 weeks, and I'm currently just walking. I will start small bursts of running (per a couch to 5K plan) in a few weeks. I was wondering: has anyone else has run a 5K after a knee injury? I dislocated my knee the first time 3 years ago, and then 2 years ago I re-dislocated it as well as breaking a piece off of the patella (remember, folks, ALWAYS do your physical therapy! I didn't go with the first injury, and that's how the second one happened).
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for a runner with a bad knee. I know I am going to have to pace myself and get good shoes, but I would love some other advice. Also, I'm doing a lot of knee-strengthening exercises, as well as my supporting muscles like my core and glutes. Any other ideas from people in a similar boat?
