Exercise 250 hours in 2012 or 21 hours in April - no April's Fools!

Welcome all... People are always welcome to join. If you join In April, you can jump in for the remaining 188 hours of 2012 or you can join us now for just the month of April which would be about 21 hours.

You can count in hours or minutes - whatever you prefer. 21 hours is 1260 minutes for April. 188 hours is 11,280 minutes for what remains for the rest of the year.

If you add that up, exercising 250 hours for the year works out to exercising 5 hours a week for 50 weeks of the year. Not too much, but not too little either.

You decide what exercise you want to do. There is no passing judgement on what people consider exercise as movement is movement in my book!

Good luck and welcome to April!

Here I AM!

Hello,
My name is Jan. I need motivation. I'm developing arthritis in my hips and so I need to get off a good 20 lbs and strengthen. Tired of my grown children teasing me about how I "USED'" to be hot! They are going to eat those words!;)

Loseit 04-01-2012 10:28 PM

68 hrs so far + 1.5 hrs for 69.5 hrs!

takingcontrol 04-02-2012 04:00 PM

Thanks for the challenge once again Melissa, I love having it here to keep me on my toes!

Welcome chocolots :)

I'm in again :) 1260 minutes for April (nearly had a heart attack when I saw your 1860 suggestion Melissa, think there's a typo :) ) After getting back on track last month and catching up for not doing all of my minutes in Jan and Feb I'm hoping not having to play catch up will make this easier this month!

I'm hoping this month it'll be easier to get in my minutes too because I'm in training for my first 5Km at the end of May, eeeeekkkkk! I've NEVER been a distance runner, but I hope I can make myself one!

Good luck everyone :)

April 1st - 45 minute spinning class
April 2nd - 60 minute Pump class

105/1260 = 1155 to go

2 hours so far in April for a total of 55!

berryblondeboys 04-02-2012 09:18 PM

Welcome chocolots and way to start the month to the rest of you!

For me, skipped the 1st and dove in on the 2nd.

April 1- nothing
April 2- 1.5 hours picking up sticks from the yard and mostly mowing very long grass.

Total # of hours for April so far: 1.5

mariposssa 04-02-2012 09:30 PM

1. 75 minutes
2. 100 minutes

When the kids (teens) go to bed I am planning to put the DVRd Dancing with the Stars on and do a little more walking, marching, dancing, whatever. :dancer:

* ETA minutes from DWTS. That show has a lot of fluff!! I FF and watched the dances and maybe 2 or 3 of the judges comments. 40 minutes instead of 2 hours. Now, I am watching the fluff while surfing. ;)

Slim CB 04-03-2012 08:54 AM

April 1 - no exercise
April 2 - Weights - 60 mins, Elliptical - 20 mins

Total for April - 80 mins

takingcontrol 04-03-2012 05:31 PM

April 1st - 45 minute spinning class
April 2nd - 60 minute Pump class
April 3rd - 30 minutes c25k w4d1 + 15 mins mega brisk walking in the rain

150/1260 = 1110 to go

Maybe I should try for 1860 and then I can pretty much take next month off?!?!

Hoping the snow doesn't settle tonight and then I can do some more jogging in the park tomorrow, to mix it up from my c25k road route. But, after doing my scheduled run in the rain this morning, there is no way I'm doing my extras in the snow, not my idea of fun! It's weather like this that makes me wish I wasn't so anti treadmill! But, at the end of the day, it could well be blowing a gale on race day, so it's all good practise!

Loseit 04-03-2012 06:14 PM

69.5+1.5=71 hrs so far

sevencallmemom 04-03-2012 07:22 PM

Melissa - how do you fit Pump into 45 minutes? I've seen it on other gym timetables too, but I presume some tracks are missed out? Or each section is shorter? Or, I'm not sure!

OK so today, I'm having to STOP myself from exercising too much ha ha! I'm only going to go to my spinning class, and not doing any more jogging. I am trying to convince myself that I have to give the C25K program a proper go and trust it and so stop doing extra jogging practise in between. I need to believe that the 20 minute run I fear at the end of next week will be possible!

April 1st - 45 minute spinning class
April 2nd - 60 minute Pump class
April 3rd - 30 minutes c25k w4d1 + 15 mins mega brisk walking in the rain

That take out two tracks and squeeze in the rest. It works out well because I follow it up with the express body step which has a lunge track, so in the end, I'm really only missing one track which is the Shoulder track which you sort of get shoulder work with the back track.

Both of those they call express - bodypump express and bodystep express. About half the class stays to take them both back to back. My husband joins me for the express bodypump.

Melissa, I like the idea of 45 mins each of pump and step! And right now I love the idea of a pump class minus the lunges (propulsion ones test my balalnce too much by the end of the class!) and shoulders (because the new shoulder track is a killer!!!)

I go through periods like that too - and then I go through periods of "Darn it, let's just DO THIS!" Funny how that works!

Hope you find your groove again soon! Maybe changing things up a bit?

I take aerobics and weights classes at the gym. I don't like working out alone, I find it boring and as such I feed off group energy. I can force myself to go to a class. I find it much harder to force myself to work out on my own.

takingcontrol 04-11-2012 03:09 PM

I understand that sentiment absolutely Slim, I'm the exact same. I've not even set foot in the gym but am learning to love my classes, slowly but surely! Does your gym offer different classes you can try? I am trying to learn to jog, but that's been a long time aim of mine, and I REALLY want to, but even with that intrinsic motivation, it can be difficult to actually make myself go out an do it! Does your gym have a pool and if so are there any hydro classes? I love those as a change. :)

April 1st - 45 minute spinning class
April 2nd - 60 minute Pump class
April 3rd - 30 minutes c25k w4d1 + 15 mins mega brisk walking in the rain

It's interesting how different we all are. I too cannot, CANNOT do gym work alone. I have never, ever done it. I tried to do the treadmill for walking a whole TWO times - couldn't do it - stopped at about a mile as I was unmotivated and bored to tears - with or without watching TV.

I "can" do a video where I feel I'm part of the class, but now that I've been to a real gym with real life people, it's a poor substitute and I think I've actually only done that ONE TIME since starting the gym.

But then, for some reason, running (so far at least) I'm OK with doing by myself. I actually thought about doing a group 5K prep thing, but then realized, "No, I think I prefer to run by myself - at my own pace, my own stride." I don't feel that way about walking by myself - I find that boring, but running? So far, I like it!

My husband takes the bodypump class with me twice a week, but he really doesn't like the class aspect about it. he prefers solo, but does it with me to be sure he DOES IT. For his other exercise he swims lap and he loves it. I would be bored out of my MIND to do that, but he loves it - go figure.

If I were you I would just try something completely different to see if it works for you - rent a video, take a run outside, try a different class - just something completely different and see if that breaks up the funk. It can't hurt to try!

Slim CB 04-11-2012 04:11 PM

I tried looking at other gyms. I love my gym but considered getting a punch card pass to another gym to try their classes. However the punch card is expensive and I am trying to save money now so I really dont want to go that route.

My other limitation is that I am a morning person... I am too pooped in the evenings to go to the gym but I guess I will have to force myself to try some evening classes to get myself out of this funk.

It's a good thing its 80% diet, 20% exercise!

I've added tomorrow as rest already. I'm enforcing it! Really pushed myself the last few weeks, and I'm loving it, seeing results, mainly mentally atm but that's great. BUT, I feel down days are important for my aching muscles to heal, so I'll have a no exercise but generally still active day :)

BerryblondeBoys - I have a friend who goes to a different gym and takes 45 min Pump classes, and had a stand in instructor today and she's less than impressed. The instructor chose to do chest, triceps, biceps, lunges and abs. Took out squats and back and did all of the 'arm' related workouts together, not good!

What a weird assortment. No matter the instructor for the class (as there are subs frequently), they always do the same body parts - warm-up, quads, chest, back, triceps, biceps and abs (with a very short cool down). Skipping lunges and shoulders because you work those muscle groups in other tracks. Plus, if you do step immediately after, there is a lunge track there and you can totally tell who does BP in that step class and who doesn't. The bpers don't get worked up by the lunge track, the steppers find it hard.
