Default Affordable Heart Rate Monitor?

I'm looking for an affordable, good heart rate monitor. I bought one a while ago from Walmart (in store) got it home to use it and some of the buttons fell off :/ So, I took it back and didn't get another. But I am thinking of getting one again...
I think I want one I can wear on my wrist...I know they have ones for the chest, or upper arm but I would like it on my wrist where I can see it and be motivated by it.
I don't want anything fancy, just calories burn. I would spend about $50.00 for it...have any suggestions?

From what I have read, the ones with the chest strap are going to be the most accurate and they're gonna cost around $80-100.

I have used one, and really I didn't see any benefit from it. Yeah, it's cool to see how many calories that you burn in a workout, but it really doesn't matter IMO. If anything, I think I would eat more cause I knew that I burned x-amount of calories.
Some people love them though.

Thanks. Yea that is kind of more than I could afford...
And after the one I got broke within two minutes, I didn't get another and I guess I really don't "need" one. I have lost weight without one...I guess I can maintain without one. I just thought it would be fun/cool to compare calories burned on the dvds I do. But I guess maybe my money would be better spent on good exercise equipment/dvds...

I have a Mio petite wrist-watch style heart rate monitor. I don't know how accurate it is overall, but it seems to be internally consistent, which is in itself useful so long as you don't take it too seriously. I rather like it. It cost me about $50 on Amazon.

This is more ($125 on Amazon), but I love it. it's a GPS fitness watch - teh Forerunner 305. I do a lot of walking, biking and maybe soon running and I find it so useful. Like, I learned the other day that my speed with walking has gone from 3.3 miles per hour when I started to 3.9 miles per hour now. Sure, I could do that with a watch, but I was able to see my lap time as I was doing it and could see if I was going slower or speeding up.

It's large, so I can see the numbers well, I can do laps, so if I am doing a warm up, I can mark that as lap one, then do lap two etc. Afterwards I can use software to see the workout and even use online programs to share iwth friends.

It's a top notch fitness watch and STILL gets rave reviews and is one of the most accurate GPS watches out there (more so than the Iphone apps for sure).

I got a cheapie from Walmart. It's a S7 7-function ECG Heart Rate Watch. It was around $25. I like it, but the calories are probably not accurate since it adds 1 calorie per 10 seconds (though I believe it adds faster the higher up your heart-rate gets). You press the pad of your finger on a button and it reads your pulse. There's also a stop-watch function, and I like that it keeps count of how long you're exercising. Then you just press stop when you're done.

I got the Proform TX-300 Ultimate Heart Rate Monitor from Wal-Mart for around $50. It as the chest strap, so I'm able to get a continuous reading and it's worked really well for me so far. I haven't noticed any weird readings or anything that doesn't seem "right" to me. I just checked their website and it's selling right now for $47.77.
