It's actually delightfully rainy here just now, and I'd love to go running in it with my doggy. I got new trainers too !

How does everyone else deal with the treadmill boredom??

I can't handle being bored on the treadmill, honestly - I'd much rather run in the rain than run on a treadmill. If I had to, I'd try to pick one in a spot where I could do some people-watching and I'd have a selection of excellent music (or audio-books) to distract me.

I just finished W5D2 last night. I didn't think I'd be able to do the 8-minute intervals, but lo and behold, it actually wasn't too hard. I could've kept going a little bit when I was done. So, maybe I'll be able to get Friday's 20-minute run. We'll see.

kariatari 08-11-2011 05:04 PM

How do I deal with treadmill boredom? I avoid it as much as possible! I run outside unless there's a nasty blizzard or ice storm. When my meetings with the treadmill are few and far between, it's much easier to stomach!

yossarianlives 08-11-2011 05:15 PM

Yes, I definitely think I'm going to move to outdoor running asap! After the week 3 intervals I'm going to start doing outside.

PS: Treadmill: what speed do you guys consider running? I googled about and got some website saying 4.5mph is running for the c25k, and I thought it was kind of slow. Just want to get a general consensus. I run at 9kph, but I think I'm going to push it down a bit.

philana 08-11-2011 05:36 PM

Did a late night run again, but I completed w2d1! It was kinda tough in the way that I had difficulty keeping my breathing normal. I really need to practice proper breathing. But - I made it, the last run was tough but I am glad the Voice (I use one of the downloads) does not say "another 20 seconds, you are almost there". Because he did with week 1 - and those 20seconds are just killing because of that. lol.

BigChiefHoho 08-11-2011 08:34 PM

yossarianlives: I'm not exactly sure how fast I run, since I do it outside, but I think it's around 6mph. I don't think it matters, though, honestly, as long as you're moving faster than a walk. You can work on improving your pace after you work up to running the whole 30 minutes.
philana: Haha, that's funny - I love it when they announce how much longer there is to go. Kind of perks me up and lets me know I might not die after all. :D

iamerican 08-11-2011 09:17 PM

Finished week 3 yesterday. Then today I went and ran a mile straight. :)

Scarlett 08-11-2011 09:37 PM

Great Job iamerican

I completed W5D3.

The cool perfect evening weather helped alot. I jogged 2+ miles. Have no idea of my time. Once I am completing this course consistently, I'll time myself.

kariatari 08-11-2011 10:44 PM

W8D2 done!

Scarlett 08-13-2011 11:54 AM

W5D3 Done for the 2nd time :carrot:

Jogged 2+ miles outside, didn't time myself.

The run really killed me today. Once I stopped jogging, I nearly hacked up a lung trying to catch my breath.

Gonna stick with this workout until I can do it without morning soreness. I need to let my legs/body get stronger

yossarianlives 08-13-2011 02:07 PM

Great job on the mile straight iamerican!

Scarlett, that is a good idea about the leg soreness. I've not had any yet, bu I would do what you're doing definitely :)

plumeria 08-13-2011 07:16 PM

I did W1D1 yesterday and am feeling really good. I literally got up off the couch yesterday to do it, too. I haven't ever really run before and I think this program will be challenging but I'm up for it.

rdw1 08-14-2011 01:01 AM

Hi all! Thought I would chime in... I just finished week 2! Loving it so far!

plumeria 08-14-2011 10:29 AM

W1d2 done. It was really humid this morning but I went anyway and I made it through. It actually began to drizzle the last 10 minutes and it was very welcome lol.

MidnightRaven 08-14-2011 12:55 PM

I just finished W5D1. I can't believe I did it!

I've been slacking, I haven't done any running since W4D3 about two weeks ago. Instead I've been exploring the gym I joined - and I've fallen in love with spin classes. I'm going to work in the rest of C25K in around the rest of my schedule at the gym, because I want to do classes, too!

I'll admit I was a bit terrified of trying W5D1, and finally got the nerve to do it this morning. Now that I've done this day, I'm not as scared of moving on to day 2! Day 3, however... what?! 20 min!?

SmileyGoDance 08-14-2011 01:43 PM

I completed week 2 yesterday :) I can't wait to start week 3 tomorrow

kariatari 08-15-2011 12:24 AM

MidnightRaven - you will be SO surprised with how much spin class helps your running! I did that in college (omg...7 years ago?!) and it was phenomenal. So many more benefits than I ever would have imagined!

I just got done with W8D3 so I'm on to week 9 and then I've graduated! I'm planning on running a 5k race at the end of September, but I might have to find one before that - I don't know if I can wait that long!

BigChiefHoho 08-15-2011 01:26 PM

plumeria: I always hope for rain when I'm running, too. Cools me down AND makes me feel hardcore! :D
MidnightRaven: That's how I felt at the beginning of last week, too. 20 minutes? Me? For seriously? But I did it Friday and it was a lot better than expected - this program really does a great job of preparing you. Be confident - you'll be able to do it!
kariatari: I'm registering for a September 5k too - good motivation to finish this thing! The one I'm looking at is right at the end of week 9, so hopefully I'll be able to do it.

Like I just said, did w5d3 on Friday (with much trepidation) and it went fine! The first five minutes were honestly the hardest part - after that I found a groove and it was pretty easy up until close to the end. I even had enough spare energy to speed up a bit for the last three minutes. I didn't make it quite two miles, but I'm not too concerned with pace right now. Just running twenty minutes (which I have never done in my entire life ever) is enough for me.

iamerican 08-15-2011 07:28 PM

I love all the new people on the thread. I finshed week 4 day 2 this morning! Its going well. It looks like everyone is doing really well.

Annita 08-16-2011 06:47 AM

currently due to personal reasons, i'm taking 7-10 days off from running (started 3 days ago). When this week ends, I will resume to running (unless circumstances change).

Hope you guys have fun while doing c25k :D

cathi888 08-16-2011 08:55 AM

I completed w3d3 on Friday. I took off the weekend and redid w3d3 yesterday because I was afraid to move on. It was tough. I shouldn't have been so lazy all weekend.

I think I may hang out at this speed for a week and work on breathing. I keep fumbling for breath at times. I want to get this down before I get any further.

A friend and I are signing up for a fun walk/trot 5k Labor day weekend. Should be fun. Even if we do walk most of it.

plumeria 08-16-2011 08:57 PM

Week 1 is now complete :)

yossarianlives 08-17-2011 06:05 AM

Completed W3D1 yesterday and the treadmill running is really bumming me out...

Found the run easy which was great! My speed wavered down to 8.4kph for the last 3mins but it felt great! Will definitely be outside for the end of the week.

MidnightRaven 08-17-2011 10:20 PM

W5D2 complete!

I felt GREAT when I finished. Such a feeling of accomplishment!

A bit terrified of D3 - come on, 20 min??? - but at the same time I can't wait. Not sure if I'll try it Friday morning or wait till Saturday. I have spin tomorrow, so I might take Friday as a rest day.

Wish me luck!

iamerican 08-17-2011 10:36 PM

I just finsihed week 4 today. :) And I have never sweat so much in my life.

Midnight: I still have a few days, but that 20 minutes is already freaking me out....

kariatari 08-17-2011 11:34 PM

iamerican, you can do it! If you ever feel like stopping while you're on the 20 mins, just remind yourself that it's not meant to be a cakewalk. It's supposed to challenge you!

I just got done with W9D1. Now that I'm into doing longer, sustained runs rather than intervals, I've noticed that my body needs a two day break from running or else my next run is terrible. I either bike, walk or play tennis on my break days, and it definitely helps. Any of you having similar experiences?

twinmommaplusone 08-18-2011 12:46 AM

I am just so proud of all of you!

Anyone ever has a question or needs extra support, come see me. I love running that much that I want to help anyone that wants to help themselves!

yossarianlives 08-19-2011 06:27 PM

Just did W3D2 and it was pretty easy. Really pleased with how easy I found it, actually. :D Looking forward to getting W3D3 out of the way and on to W4!

Hope everyone else is on track!

plumeria 08-19-2011 08:58 PM

W2D1 done. Whew!! :)

iamerican 08-20-2011 08:20 PM

Congrats on the progress! Week5 D1 done today!

MidnightRaven 08-20-2011 09:52 PM

Thanks for all the support ladies!

I did W5D3 today! It was AMAZING. I went into it terrified, but after I realized I had crossed the 10min mark of the 20min run I knew I had it ... I just relaxed and zoned out into the music. It was SUCH a feeling of accomplishment to run the whole 20min!

I bumped my speed down today to 5.0 so I could be consistent and keep running the whole time - I felt great at the end of the run and felt like I could have kept going, so I bet I could have kicked it up a notch and run at least a 5.3 or so.

Week 6 doesn't look so intimidating now! :-D

*in such a great mood*

belmagick 08-21-2011 02:13 PM

Can I jump in? I've never posted on this thread before because I didn't know it was here:dizzy:

Just finished W5D3, I was so worried about the 20 minutes, but I really surprised myself and I did it. Feeling confident enough to finally be able to complete the programme (This is my third attempt)!

philana 08-21-2011 02:26 PM

So, I did week 3! I was impatient and on holiday to France with nice scenery and beautiful mountains. I skipped the last day of week 2 and went to week 3 and totally amazed myself. Though maybe it was cheating a little bit that I did the long parts of the week 3 runs downhill? Tomorrow I'll do another week 3 run here at home again on flat terrain. And then wednesday a week 4 run. Yikes!

yossarianlives 08-22-2011 06:49 PM

Yeah, so I seem to have taken a 3 day hiatus. I really want to get out running, but the last 3 days I've been doing 12-8pm shifts and then I just feel too tired...

Tomorrow definitely! Feel like skipping W3D3 and heading straight into W4D1 to give myself a new challenge but I don't know.

I just hope 3 days off isn't going to ruin all my hard work so far. :(

BigChiefHoho 08-22-2011 08:50 PM

Just did w7d1 and it was a lot harder than w6d3, even though I believe it's the same amount of time. Not sure what the difference was - hope it gets a bit easier. Finished it, though, so that's good. I'm kind of sad that there are no more intervals - they were fun. It's a lot harder to make it through one long run, I think.

Scarlett 08-22-2011 09:22 PM

Did W5D3 today. I lightly jogged 2 miles outside.

I ran last over a week ago and feel hapy I finished the workout. Time off usually kills my momentum. I reached W5D3 then ended up taking a 2 week hiatus from running. Then I got back to to 2 miles and ended up taking another week off (some crazy things came up). Now I'm still at 2 miles which is a heck of a lot more than I could do when I started back in May. Just glad I've been able to stick with running. I hope to string a few good weeks together and get over this hump.

iamerican 08-24-2011 08:54 PM

Looks like a lot of people are at the same point I am. Id w5d3 today! I cant believe I ran 20 minutes straight!!! I have never done that before. I may not have been fast, but I did it. :)

kariatari 08-24-2011 09:23 PM

Way to go iamerican!

I just got done with W9D1 - two more to go!

iamerican 08-25-2011 08:47 AM

Kari! You are almost done!!!! Hows it feel?

omgzitsmiranda 08-26-2011 09:54 AM

I'm trying so hard to work up the nerve to try this lol.
I guess I just need to either do it or shut up :p

philana 08-26-2011 11:20 AM

I've not been able to go for a little over a week due to my knee hurting (mountainbike sillyness on my holiday, lol). Tonight I am gonna go for my w3d3 run. I hope it goes well, because I am anxious to get to week 4, but I know it's a big step so I need to be able to do it. I've not failed at any of the runs yet, and I don't want to either.

Update: Well, just did w3d3, and I am gonna do it a second time. Because I made it just barely, and after that week and a half break, I am not up for week 4 already. Oh well, just a minor stall. I might even do it twice before I move on to week 4. Week 4 kinda scares me. LOL.
