Jogging whit a stroller....
I just got a jogging stroller, and i will like to get some advice.
What about ipod , should i used or not? Thanks. |
What kind of advice are you looking for? I jog with a jogging stoller all the time. It's a great work out because you're also using you're upper body. It takes a little getting used to, but it's not hard. I'd start with shorter distances to get your little one used to being in the stoller for long periods of time if he/she isn't already. That's the toughest part is being in the middle of a run and having your kid have a melt down over whatever. My DS is so used to it now because we've been doing it for so long that he loves it and I can do up to 5 miles at one time. Something that works really well for us is that we have 3 parks all within 3-4 miles of us, so I can jog there take a break and jog or walk back. That way everyone wins, I get my exercise in and so does DS. It looks like you're little one is around 10 months so it's probably a little early for the park, but if they have infant swings or just going to crawl around in the grass a little would be fun.
Hopefully your jogging stoller has a tray for snacks, load it up! And go when you know they're a little hunger. iPod, abosolutly. If you're worried about hearing cries or something, then just keep the volumn down a little. I like it because there is never an excuse to get in my exercise. I see that you're bfing and I don't know if you've been jogging already, but if you haven't be sure to get a very good sports bra and go as close to after a feed as you can. I found it kind of uncomfortable to jog while I was bfing, and didn't really get really into it until we weaned, but don't use that as an excuse, if you're comfortable you go girl! Good luck and if you have any more specific questions pm me. |
I would say if you are running ON the road do not use an ipod. I'm not a big fan of the ipod in general, but you need to use extra awareness with the stroller. If you are on a path or something protected, sure, keep it low enough to hear your kid.
The only jogging stroller caveat I will give is if you are already injured or prone to injury for a lot of people jogging strollers make it worse because it alters your form. |
We bought our jogger about 6 years ago, and boy have we logged a lot of miles on that sucker. And we got a cheap one b/c my DH didn't think I would use it!
I don't use an ipod when I jog anyways, but I would second what Ennay says about not using one while on the road with the jogger. I attached a couple little toys to the jogger with those plastic links so my little ones would have something to play with. On my best days I remember to bring a sippy cup, and don't forget the suncreen for little one. I also load my jogger with snacks for baby, but I have always chuckled at the irony of feeding her/him to stave off boredom, so I can run off the calories I ate when I was bored. ;) A trainer at the gym pointed out what Ennay mentioned about injury. He suggested pushing with one hand and pumping the other, switching sides throughout the run, as opposed to running with both hands on the stroller at all times. I know some women wear two jog-bras at a time for better support. For better or for worse, never a problem for flat-chested me (even while breastfeeding). ~sigh~ Have fun! |
Thanks girls..
