Ever been burned this bad?

  • I took my kids to a water park a full week ago now. Our full bottle of sunscreen covered them but stopped spraying before I got to use it. The mechanism just quit. So I have a really bad spotted burn because little drops of sunscreen covered me. I am truly a red and white polka-dotted mess. It's the worst burn I've ever had. It sucks too because with a 57 pound loss, this is the first year I want to wear tank tops...EVER!!

Anyway, yesterday I went to the gym and sweat profusely, thank you Spin class. It was as if the sweat couldn't come through my burned skin. It made tiny bubbles (blisters) in as many places as one might see beads of sweat. It was disgusting! And one of the bubbles was as big as a super-ball. It went down within about four hours of cooling down. Then it happened again today, but not nearly as bad.

So now I'm curious...has this ever happened to you or anyone you know? I've never heard of that before!
  • It WAS because the sweat couldn't come out of that skin.

I'd get some prescription cream for the burn- at least put aloe on it as often as possible- be careful about popping them you could leave scarring.
  • The same exact thing happened to me a couple of years ago. It was gross. And some of them even "popped" and I was actually wet from it. I gave up on the spray sunblock after that day.
  • I don't want to say it's "normal" because it is an indicator of a more severe sunburn (2nd/3rd degree). I get them either when my sunburn is associated with water or if I'm getting super sweaty post sunburn.

I'm super pale and have definitely had water blisters pop up from some bad burns. I'm pale enough that I can get a sunburn walking across the parking lot to a store.

Don't pop them and if they do pop, treat them like you would a normal popped blister because they can get infected if they're deep.
  • I'm glad to know it's happened to someone besides me. I'm really upset with the company. DH called them and they're sending us a new bottle. I wanted them to know their mechanism could be faulty. I really like the spray because it's so easy with squirrely kids, but now I have a bottle of lotion in our bag just in case.

If I get skin cancer in the future, I'm blaming this incident!
  • I had a burn like that on my back two summers ago. Ended up going to aftercare and they gave me silver sulfadiazine to heal it and codeine for the pain. The patch that got burned like that ended up freckling like crazy! Hope you feel better!
  • Definitely put aloe on it at LEAST 2 times a day. I had a burn like this a couple years ago. Pretty much when you think about it, put more on.

What definitely worked like a charm for me was to buy an aloe plant from a farmers market. They're relatively cheap and then all you have to do is break off a stem whenever you need to, and squeeze it all out straight from the source. And of course the stems grow back in
  • We live on the coast and summers were spent on the beach; my very pale skin could not handle the summer sun as well as my dark mother and even darker brother. I've had a lot of burns like that. She used to take me home and my grandmother would smear dippity-do gel all over me. It was the go-to method of the time (do I show my age now? ) and it's what every one did. I hated that little jar of dippity-do. It made my skin feel stiff. But it did soothe it right away. My other grandmother insisted vinegar was the go-to stuff (but that has to be done on the same day).

The blisters aren't really good, because they are going to eventually pop or drain and then that little bubble of skin is going to break away, leaving exposed areas of raw skin. I'd hold off on anything that caused me to sweat excessively to avoid the blistering.
  • I just got done dealing with a bad sunburn. I applied the sunscreen but still got the burn because I did not reapply.

There was no way to remove the top of the spray bottle and just pour it into your hand and spread?
