I just bought a hr monitor and it shows me burning about 400 calories using my treadmill for 30 minutes with inclines and changing of faster to slower maxing out at 4 mph. Does this sound right? my weight is 162. any help would be lovely!

is your treadmill a fold away type or a always up one with the digital display on it?

fold away but i use a Hr monitor that is around my chest

right. the reason i asked is digital display ones give a calorie out put at the end of the workout.

see if you can swindle yourself a day pass to a gym somewhere or can test a digital display treadmill and compare it to your HR montior. if they are within about 10% then its good enough.

without anything to compare it to you'll kinda have to make do unfortunately.

or you can go to google scholar. and search for journal articles about the hrm that you ahve and see if there are any studies as to their accuracy.

I think that generally they are pretty accurate, depending on the brand, etc. of the monitor. Did you read reviews of it prior to purchasing? I heard that in general they can be 5-10% off what they are reading (meaning it's saying you burned more than you actually did).

I love mine, use it every time I work out - I figured even with being 5-10% off, it's worth it to have an estimate. The HR monitor works better than the monitors on any machine hands down.

I did research it when I was buying it and it sounded pretty accurate. It is a timex. I just wanted to see what others thought.Thanks ladies
