Default Getting lightheaded/dizzy when doing cardio?

I did a little over an hour of jogging on the treadmill, elliptical, and walking on an incline this morning. It was on an empty stomach, I know some people can't workout before breakfast, but I feel like a slug if I eat ANYthing before I work out. I felt perfectly fine during that workout, I was still energetic, came home and ate breakfast. Well I studied for a few hours (ugh, one more final left), and went back again before lunch as a quick study break. I only did 15 min on the elliptical and 15 min of walking on an incline. I wasn't trying to get my heart rate way up or anything, just move for a few minutes as a study break. I wasn't exerting nearly as much effort as I did this morning.

So I got through the elliptical just fine, but about halfway through the walk, I started to get that cold sweat lightheaded feeling like when you stand up too fast. By the end of the 15min, I was legit dizzy. I didn't even realize how lightheaded and cold-sweaty I was until I stopped, otherwise I would have stopped earlier. I sat down for a minute on the bench before I drove home. I've now eaten lunch and feel just fine and dandy again.

This has happened to me once before, the dizzy/lightheaded feeling. But I exercise several times per week, at much greater intensity than this. So it doesn't seem to be correlated with exercise intensity. I always try to exercise on an empty stomach, so that may have something to do with it.

Any ideas? Low blood pressure? Low blood sugar? I'm not too worried about it since it's only happened twice that I can think of, out of all the times that I exercise.

It SOUNDS like maybe low blood sugar?

I work out on an empty stomach in the morning too, so I get that. Some of us can do that, some of us can't. My stomach just doesn't like food in the morning. However, it's important after intense cardio that you eat carbs.

I wouldn't suggest working out that second time without something on your belly. Yogurt would be great at that time as it has both carbs and protein or banana with nut butter. It sounds like your body is telling you it needs more carbs to draw from.

I'm impressed with your "movement break". Good for you!
